Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures
Director: Ben Affleck
Screenwriter: Ben Affleck, Peter Craig, Aaron Stockard
Genre: Crime, Drama
MPAA Rating: R (for strong violence, pervasive language, some sexuality and drug use)

Plot Summary: Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) is an unrepentant criminal, the de facto leader of a group of ruthless bank robbers who pride themselves in stealing what they want and getting out clean. With no real attachments, Doug never has to fear losing anyone close to him. But that all changed on the gang's latest job, when they briefly took a hostage--bank manager, Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall). Though they let her go unharmed, Claire is nervously aware that the robbers know her name...and where she lives. But she lets her guard down when she meets an unassuming and rather charming man named Doug...not realizing that he is the same man who only days earlier had terrorized her. The instant attraction between them gradually turns into a passionate romance that threatens to take them both down a dangerous, and potentially deadly, path.

WOW! Just got back. This is a fantastic movie. Jeremy Renner was fantastic. Ben did a great job too. Didn't realize he wrote the screenplay and directed as well. VERY VERY VERY good movie!

I thought the movie was good. Renner was awesome. Affleck who I view as a terrible actor did a decent job. I didn't like it as much as "The Departed" but it was still pretty good.

Very good movie -- works as an action flick and as a character flick. Affleck is turning into a really solid director: well-paced, visually strong, several actors give nicely nuanced performances, and he uses Boston to great effect as a character in the movie. And yeah, he's never been one of my favorite actors, but he handles this role just fine.

Personally I thought this movie was average at best. Entertaining but nothing more. Certainly does not warrant the 94% it's getting at Rotten Tomatoes, imo.

Is everything
I've seen the trailer a few times and it seems like it gives the entire plotline away. Is that true?

No way. Deserves every bit of that 94%

it's too long. decent movie, but on second viewing, it dragged for me.

I agree, it was a little long, but not too bad (that was my only issue with Gone Baby Gone as well).

The only other thing that jumped out at me is the relationship between Affleck and the girl--it didn't seem as real as it should have, either because they rushed the courtship or he had to cut some footage of that development. I mean, I got the idea that he was in love with her, but I didn't exactly get that from her. Of course, that could also be because she's just an average actress.

I thought it was a good movie. Chris Cooper's involvement is waaayyy too little. Peter Postlethwaite is excellent as usual in a minor role. The plot was good and it moved pretty well. Affleck isn't annoying either(sorry but still can't forgive him for ruining DareDevil).

I watched it last night and thought it was pretty good. Any movie that mentions the Standell's Dirty Water is okay in my book.

Finally got around to watching this. Reminded me of Heat in a lot of ways and I loved Heat. The town wasn't quite as good but certainly up there. And between this and Hurt Locker I developed a man crush on Jeremy Renner.

I'm wanna tell you a story
I'm wanna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big fat story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town

Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles
Aw, that's what's happenin' baby
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, buggers and thieves
Aw, but they're cool people

Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston you're my home
Oh, you're the number one place

Ugh, we ended up laughing at what was supposed to be witty dialogue in this. Horrible. Affleck is a bad actor. And too bad someone couldn't tell him how cheesy this movie was.

For example, did we really the two love scenes and the workout scene to see how much the writer/director worked out?

And did he really need to give himself the monologue about him in his underoos to go on for five minutes.

The rest of the cast did what they could, but ugh.

Like has been said, cliched and unbelievable.

It was long, cliched, the woman's decision was entirely unbelievable, and the FBI had to be the worst group of investigators in movie history.

this.

I recently watched it. Decent flick, worth watching once.

The original cut was 4 hours.
