I dunno...episode 2 was a bit of a dud as well... the action was cool and all but as far as story goes it still seamed disjointed... characters passing around the "knowing" looks and such,..but...I dont know..
that one savior chick.... "oh god, they didnt HAVE to advance on us!"...then sits patiently while her buddy eats her throat?? wtf? we are a few years into zombieland now, and these experienced "fighters" aint thinking zombie every time they see someone die?

gimple was on TD after the show,....apparently the first four episodes are going to be like this.guess we just have to soldier through it.

now,...the baby. Wouldnt it be a cool twist if the baby belonged to dwights wife...and the saviors caught her and are using the baby to keep control of dwight,...so he betrayed the alexandria coalition....which is why so many of their targets are so lightly staffed...

or would that be too obvious?

That episode was even worse than the last one.

I mean... how many times did they go back to the shootout between characters NO ONE gives a crap about? And nothing seemed to change there.

Pretty boring start to the season. It all feels very played out. It's like they want to drag out the Negan thing for the whole season so they don't have to come up with something new.

the only certainty is that uber positive king zeke will die soon

Yup. All feels like one MASSIVE stall.

It would be the first time the series went into “stall mode”. The writers of both of these shows like to revisit the well often. We have Junkie Depp back in the drug saddle again, we have Strand, the most untrustworthy character, shocking everyone with his untrustworthiness again....and on this show replaced forest walking with the never ending battle with the Saviors.

Seriously, I would simply prefer they just do some standalone episodes outside the story arcs verses revisiting the same things.

it was A TON of process... meaning, people walking round and gunfire for a long time that didn't move the needle.

I can't imagine what this script read like.

and why didn't that dude just kill rick?

I'm sure that's coming next week after a three minute monologue where it looks like Rick's goose is about to be permanently cooked... again.

Also... I sure hope next episode starts and ends with the completely pointless CU on all the main characters montages again. That was amazing in its awful attempt at... something.

He left the group with his family in season one at the camp in the woods outside of Atlanta. he wasn't important per se

I love when Morgan goes crazy and hate that jesus stopped it. When he is in the zone, he reminds me of the terminator. It had me hootin out loud.

ratings continue to plummet... lowest number in the demo (18-49) since 2012 and lowest overall numbers since the season 2 finale.

http://uproxx.com/tv/walking-dead-ratings-stumble/

still, a huge show, but those numbers keep trending downward in pretty big chunks. I for one think a lot of people are just tired of the Negan story. It's been going on for THREE seasons and still has no end in sight... and Negan is beyond lame.

I really hope they get through the "all out war" fast, finally kill Negan and move on to something interesting. Until then, I'll keep hate watching it for the sheer stupidity of it all.

SO... MANY... BULLETS......

All I can think about this season is how much ammunition is being expended. I'd estimate that somewhere between 10,000 and 50,000 rounds have been fired this season. Did Wal Mart re open? What are the makers of this show thinking am I just supposed to accept that and move on?

I'm sorry to be a party pooper, I just cant get past it. My brain can accept zombies, but unlimited ammo? It's like this series has turned into the movie Commando. ABSURD

Among all the other silly things that are happening, it's just so cringey to me to watch them firing thousands of rounds in every episode when just last season and the one before that, there was a narrative about how they were running out of bullets and needed to start making them.

The telegraphing of someone who is about to get killed has gotten really bad too. Was there any doubt that what happened at the end was going to happen? I mean they were like hammering it in with every long extended glance they shared. Cmon man. What happened to this show? It's like the writers are over it and just want to go home. They should get rid of them all. There's got to be thousands of hungry run writers out there who would love to write a plausible and compelling storyline for this formerly awesome show.

We used to be glued to every second of this show. Now, I find myself checking Twitter, playing a mobile game and just glancing up every now and then. I hope they have something a little more compelling coming up soon or this will just be background noise. I don't want to be a hater, but this has been a very rough start.

Another writer friend of mine and I talked about what we think is the biggest problem of this show... it's just that there's no endgame. The show now is simply just how do we survive the next bad group. I think you can only do that so many times before the story gets stale and they've been doing it with the Saviors now for THREE seasons.

And with their ratings, they can probably continue to do it for another 3 seasons before those ratings dip below profitability margins.

They need an endgame, IMO. Come across someone who's found a cure, find out that there's still some semblance of government/cdc and have to get that cure to the right people. Then, you could throw a bunch of bad guys in their way to overcome to get there.

But the show is much like the zombies in it... just ambling forward, doing the same thing, over and over and over again.

Yes and you could really see that in this episode. Jesus and Morgan swapped roles and now Jesus is the exact same character that Morgan was the past few seasons. Totally deluded and overly merciful. It was Dale before that. They just can’t get everyone on the same page, get a new storyline!

This reminds me of the early CDC episode where that guy was trying to find a cure. I would have to imagine that at some point, a cure would be not only viable but be the most valuable thing in the world. What about tackling that? It would provide a purpose for people verses just surviving from group to group and sanctuary to sanctuary.

Isn't it well established now that there really is no home. No permanency?

Plus, it would be a cool story line in terms of maybe the group that owns the cure wants to use it to solidify their power or resources. Maybe they want to thin out the population to start over in society. So many story lines could come of that.

IMO that would be a fitting story arc for the series to end on.

Defeat Negan, create a good community, grow even larger and achieve peace on slice of earth with sweet fences that block all zombies?

I don't think no permanency is established. If the group was as big as it is now and kept growing without the threat of negan, they could survive forever at that point with that much collective manpower building a utopia impenetrable by the zombies. They have survived so long that they all know ways to defeat them and hold them back rather easily compared to before and as you built on that, you would likely be fine.

Although I will have no problem with killing negan and then the homes being destroyed and finding somewhere else. The only thing I miss is zombie threats vs storm trooper gun fights against people.

I think it has. Up to this point no matter how big, powerful or how much fire power a community has, it has failed. Sure we can predict it could. Then I could argue that a mega horde like we have seen could take it down. I was simply saying as a matter of history on the show, no society has been able to establish permanency in the TWD verse.

Besides does anybody really want to see them stop traveling? Maybe they do but plunking down on a permanent home is personally not something I want to see.

so... they can meet that chick that wil smith helped escape at the end of I am Legend...and then help her get the cure to Baltimore?

it would seem that their best bet would be to put the safe space further away.. like,..albuquerque or something. Then have them traveling cross country,..it would open up more story lines I think.

since they were talking about a TWD and FTWD crossover,...thats how it could happen.... both groups get to albuquerque and find it destroyed.... then Rick and Madison have freaky sex and shoot themselves in the head at climax.
Later Carl find out the safe spot was actually at the SanDia labs north of albuquerque on the other side of the mountains...and they have a cure..
