Shane couldn't pull the trigger on the girl. It took someone who's been forced to make hard decissions to do it. Rick.
I think Rick felt he had to do it to show Herschel that even if a walker used to be someone they loved, they're not anymore. They couldn't afford to be hypocritical in this--for the obvious reason of getting killed and for the stance they've taken with Hershel.

Good point.

Saw they ending coming a mile away but they did a great job with it. My one big issue is how long has this half season been? 3 days? A week? A month? They have been stalling for so long that I am so confused to how long they have been on the farm.

I brought this up in another forum. Carl, who was on death's door a few episodes ago, is no worse for wear and is up and around and even shooting. However, Daryl is still hurting. So, yeah, the timeline is a bit choppy.

Yep yep.

Yeah, he's the most interesting character, by far.

Herschel needs to eat a gun. He kept them out there looking and looking and looking for the little girl, putting themselves in mortal danger, all while knowing they had a little girl zombie. I don't care if he'd been playing ostrich about the walkers all that time, that's enough to say buh-bye to him and take the damn farm. But hey, maybe I have a little of Shane's attitude :D

Daryl is far and away the best character. He is the most 3 dimensional character on this show, followed by Glen and then Maggie. I like Shane don't get me wrong but they have had his character change so many times. This last change has made him turn evil (depending on your view of what he is doing) just for evil's sake. When he killed Otis he did so for his own protection. This was just him being pissed off. Everything this season has seem out of character from what we saw season 1.

He's snapped. Your character is different after you have a mental and emotional breakdown and don't have the means to repair it. He's adrift, and there's no one reigning him back in effectively.

Well, this show has managed to get me to want to see the next part of the season. I'm kind of disappointed that it did, because so much of this season was a waste. I realize that they were shooting for the slow burn, but I don't think it was very effective. Now that something happened, though, it is interesting again.

Might happen again in the 2nd half because season 3 has already been greenlighted.

If the 2nd half of this season goes the same way as the 1st half (quick action, and then a snooze fest for most of the rest of the way), I'll ditch the show. Each episode after the first one had about 10 minutes of anything interesting, and a bunch of stupidity and pacing like molasses.

Herschel needs to realize these zombies aren't sick. Sick people are still alive: the "Walkers" are dead.

Wicked, I see you aren't sure how to use the spoiler function by your edit reason. Before the spoiler, put the word spoiler inside brackets. After the spoiler, put /spoiler inside brackets.

Herschel did not know they had Sophia in the barn...they addressed that when they were pulling the walkers out of the mud...... it had been Otis's task to corral the walkers and lock them away..... but Shane fed Otis to the walkers before he knew they were searching for a little girl.

Herschel did look genuinely surprised when Shane popped that walker six times and it never flinched...that may have helped him to realize they are no longer human....but the blood bath that immediately followed will stick to him for a bit I think....... also,...if they leave the farm, I am pretty sure Maggie will be leaving with them....Kinda half expecting a massive walker attack, Herschel gettin eaten, and the rest escaping by the skin of walker teeth.

Yeah, but he's the leader of the enclave, and he claimed to know who every one of the walkers in that barn was...you know, family or friends. He was OBLIGED to make sure that kid wasn't in there. He is 100 percent liable for putting those people in danger going on with the search.

Not according to the comics. But then again, the comics had Shane getting zombified.

Kinda tells you how much influence the comics are having, eh?
I know you're talking about following the plot line, but "the comics" are still having a heavy influence on the show as Kirkman is on the writing staff and in the room (last year I think he had more of an advisory role and wasn't even in LA).

Last year, before the first episode aired, he was interviewed and said that he/they had no intention of maintaining the continuity of the comic. Perhaps that's changed now that he is more actively involved but he sounded like he wanted it to have a life of it's own separate from the comic book story lines.

Absolutely. My point is only that this still very much the world painted in the comics and that the spirit of what happened there is still very much alive in te show.

For those who follow the comic, does the black guy and his son from season 1 come back into the story? It seems that they had intentions for a reunion with the radio broadcasts and signs left by Rick, but those have ceased in season 2.
