I think he looks fine in his dropbacks and about the only time he doesn't look comfortable is on the designed roll-outs.

The non-shotgun running game actually existed today and I still don't understand why they continue to over-use the delayed draw. Hightower and Edge both had 2-play, first down sequences that looked just fine running dive plays.

Breaston showed the line between he and Fitz/Q on that near-TD. It wasn't a sure thing but I think the big two each make that play given the opportunity. JJ needs to catch that pass for the first down. I was really disappointed in that play because I really thought he could be a difference maker doing just that. I'm betting there aren't a lot of future opportunities.

Spach did okay at TE. Kind of a surprise to see him get the looks that he did.

NFC West Champions. Congratulations everyone.

agreed. the roll out play makes my butt-hole pucker up just waiting for disaster. it's not his strength and I'm not sure why we'd keep running that play.

that's why Breaston's a great #2 WR and Boldin and Fitz are Pro-Bowlers. Both Breast and Warner were a bit off on that play. I mean Breaston was WIDE open and if the ball had been thrown inside it was a sure TD, but he also had a shot to drag the other foot and didn't. like you said, the difference between a #2 WR and a Pro-Bowler.

don't know about there not being a lot of future opps, but I agree he's gotta make that catch.

big test for Warner and the O next week against a live D. I thought the offense as a whole played relatively mediocre today. Warner had some nice tosses, but the pick/overthrow of a wide open Pope for what would have been a TD and the two delay calls were frustrating and the fact that we couldn't really run the ball against the Rams was as well. I expected the O to just scorch the Rams D and they all left a lot of points on the field.

But, a win's a win and a great win at that. Nice to see the D makes plays again. They've got a big test next week also. their tackling (or lack thereof) could be a nightmare against a guy like Peterson and they have to force some turnovers from either Gus or Tavaris.

so... i guess, the whole team's got a big test next week. We haven't beaten anyone good since the Cowboys game.. Gotta win that one and start boosting back up the confidence against the big boys. can't wait for that game.

There's been like 5 in the last 20 years or so that start out great, Marino, Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan this year. Most elite QB's start out rough around the edges, even Peyton threw 28 picks his rookie year.

I'm not bashing Kurt at all I'm just saying your comments about Leinart are completely without context, his first 2 years were actually as good or better than many good QB's put up. The difference is most of them didn't have to compete with a guy like Warner.

I've been a fan since 1975, believe me I am thrilled to win another division title and I probably appreciate this more than a lot of Cards fans just on sheer longevity.

I'm not going to argue with that, but IMO it took a Kurt Warner to win this thing with all the problems the Cardinals have had this year. IMO ML's inexperience wouldn't have been enough to get the job done. I agree to disagree and I feel that not signing and bringing back KW as starter next year would be a huge mistake.

Then you should give more credit to a QB having to deal with that.

sigh. what do you want me to say? Kurt was awesome today? He wasn't. He played an atrocious D and didn't play as well as he had previous against atrocious/bad Ds which he lit up, with or without a running game.

good god man.

I just want you to admit that it'd be great to have him back as starter. If you'd be willing to say that I'd be satisfied.
If you are talking about his time w/ the Rams, he had Faulk and a good OLine. That's what we need now.

omg.

yes, in a fantasy world we had all the money in the land and could fill all the holes this team has while giving Warner the big payday I believe he'll command, I'd like to have him back as our starter.

you're going on ignore now.

IAWarnerFan;1888726 If you are talking about his time w/ the Rams said:
because HOF/MVP type RBs and good offensive linemen just grow on trees and don't cost money. Do you realize that you've just made the argument that in order for us to win with Kurt, who already has two All-Pro WRs, he also needs to be surrounded by a HOF/mvp Running Back and a good O-line. ANY mediocre QB with that kind of talent would win.

You were always the one saying he'd want the huge payday.
You asked what I wanted and I gave it to you. ;)

Don't ask the question if you can't handle the answer. :p

You want Hillary? You get Bill.

You want The Greatest Show on Turf II, you get the occasional dumb pick.

As Warner escaped the rush and rolled to his right, was there any one among us who wasn't at least silently screaming: "Don't throw it!"?

But here's the deal: Is Warner (admittedly an old dog) capable of learning from his mistakes and changing his ways?

A good sign is that Kurt acknowledged (without prompting) after the game that the interception he threw undermined our attempt to take away all hope of victory from the Rams by piling up an early lead.

A better sign is that later in the game, under similar circumstances, instead of trying to turn lemons into lemon-aide, Kurt threw the ball into the nickel seats.

Maybe he's learned. I hope so, because this is the kind of mistake that will get you beat by the good NFL teams in close games.

I think it's a bit extreme to say that Warner's potential contract is the lynch pin to the whole salary cap for the Cards. James is gone so there's a chunk of money right off the top. Boldin's deal can be back loaded and worst case scenario, he's under contract whether he's resigned or not.

Now, I agree that keeping two QB's at starting money isn't a wise idea in general but it also seems foolish to get rid of the guy that's likely going to have 4,500 yards and 30 TD's.

Warner will want a reasonable contract but he's not going to break the bank and he's going to be motivated to offer his services at a relatively accommodating price/structure.

If Warner wins a couple of playoff games how do you not sign him? Likely the MVP in all of football. In top two in stats and without a doubt the team leader. If I am the receivers no doubt who I want as the QB. Management is between a rock and a hard place. Replace the MVP with a virtual rookie? He has done all this with the worst running game in the NFL. Some tough choices coming up. Q???? One of the best receivers in the NFL. Dansby??? We better enjoy this year because it could get a whole lot tougher next year. What if we lose Q, Warner, Dansby? Just how far can we go? My guess is Warner has two more years left in him and will retire on his own if not sooner. Best QB we have had in perhaps my lifetime. One of the most accurate of all time and tough as nails. If he is gone then I guess it would be StClaire as backup. Tough way to start a season. Warner has talked about retirement but with the season he is having I sort of doubt it. There will be a number of teams who would jump all over him. I hope we keep him. I feel sorry for Matt. Who would have ever guessed the Warner of old would rise from the ashes.

What a year for me. Both my teams the Cubs and Cards win the divisions. Never has happened before. May never happen again. "And the last shall be first and the first shall be last". Is that not some bible quote?
