Does this show need to be watched on a big screen tv, or will it be nearly just as good on a laptop? If I try to watch it at home it's going to take forever, but I can probably crank out all 60 episodes in about 3 months if I watch on my laptop.

Laptop is great. It is in a normal aspect ratio. There are no special effects, flashbacks, etc. What you see is what you get.

I watched the first two seasons on my laptop while in a vanpool. I think it is actually better that way because you focus intently on the dialog and setting.

Please keep us updated on your progress. :)

Best Buy has the complete series for $89.99. I'm considering it.

Sweet! Keep posting your thoughts. Best. Show. Ever.

Wow, even Amazon is $134.

Yeah, but I'm already dropping $37.49 on the Band of Brothers Bluray and another $90 might be pushing it.

I got both of those, as well as the Sarah Connor Chronicles for $19.99.

Expensive day for me.

this whole series was great but was it just me or was it never quite as great after they wrapped up the Stringer/what's his face story line?

I thought it got better after that case. Marlo, Chris and Snoop are all great characters, imo.

Finished off season 1. Wow, I'm surprised how good this is. I thought I would be a little disappointed due to the high praise from everyone here. It met my lofty expectations.

It only took two episodes to reel me in and get me hooked. I loved when they analyzed the kitchen murder (episode 4 maybe?).

I've recognized a few songs that were also used in the Sopranos. I'm having flashbacks.

I would definitely recommend using subtitles. I would miss quite a bit of dialog if I didn't use them. I also need a Wire dictionary. Hard to keep up at times. :D

I just started to rewatch the series, but this time with the commentary on.

It's great to hear what the writers, producers, and directors were actually thinking when they made the show and what their goals were for each scene.

We watched the first five episodes this weekend. Here is what I think:

This show is not better than the Sopranos. Never. It is not better than Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, and definitely not better than Homicide: Life on the Street.

Ugh.

Well acted? Not.
