I think the Cardinals win either way. a WR set of Boldin, Johnson and MW/Fitz would be one of the top units in the league for years.
I really think the forgotten man here is Byrant Johnson. I look at him to have a much improved season. He had an average rookie season and most WR dont have a lot of success in their first year. And with Quan having the monster year he had it really overshadows what BJ did. Having a year under his belt, defenses shadowing Quan, denny's new system and the possiblity of having either one of these kids, BJ stands to benefit the most. He becomes our deep threat to spread the secondary while Quan runs the slot and the new WR and take the possesion role.
Now with all that said I'm sure we'll end up taking Gallery or something......

Honestly I think Fitz is gone. He won't get by 2 teams. And M Williams might not get past OAK.

What a bummer. Boston screwed us.

DG's offense needs 2 above average WRs anyone we draft other then Fitz or MAYBE M Williams could be the next B Johnson...
it is better to be drafting the WR @ #3 then at #33 or 3rd round :(

BTW I voted both cause I think both M Williams and Fitz are going to run slow so that SD doesn't take them. SD or OAK will trade out of their spot so some team can take ELI and the other team that doesn't trade will take Gallery.

Leaving DG with the choice of Fitz or M Williams at #3.

What? ...It could happen.

It all depends on their work-outs (40-times), because both are expected to run a slow 40. Right now, it looks like MW is there and Fitz isn't.

I somewhat understand those of you that don't want a WR in the 1st, but what's the alternative (IF you say Sean Taylor I'll $*****- drafting a safety at #3 would be the biggest reach ever).

This team has two major needs and three semi-needs IMO:
Major:
DT
CB

Semi:
WR
QB
RG

Tommie Harris doesn't fit our scheme and there are no blue-chip CBs, so you can't fill a hole at a major need if you stay at #3.

McCown was rated as the 3rd best QB two years ago and he has much upside. Green seems satisfied with him and if that really is the case then we don't need to draft a QB. I'm not sold on McCown, but if Green is then QB is not an option at #3.

That leaves us with WR. We have Boldin, who was rookie of the year, and Johnson, who was our #1 last year and should post a decent season this year (60 rep - 800 yards - 4 TDS) with futher development. We desperate need a #3, because Green uses 3 receiver sets on 60-70% of all plays. Because of this WR becomes the #3 need for this team.

Bach, that's a great scenario....it's just your scenario. Others, like myself, aren't sold on McCown, and though he may yet turn out to be a good starter, I'd rather draft one of the two QBs than a WR. Not saying you're wrong, just my personal opinion.

I think the Chargers dumping Boston is a great boost to our draft position, it doesn't weaken it. There is now an outside chance that Manning will drop to us. Then, you draft him. Easy. You can never have too many good QBs.

Or, you do a deal, and start to stack draft picks. I really don't see how we got hurt here. I really like both Williams and Fitz, but they are not the only way for us to get good.

I think Manning and Gallery or Manning and Fitz will be the first two picks of the draft.

There is now an outside chance of Manning not going in the top 2 picks now, but I doubt it will happen.

That's the reason we got this board...

I'm not 100% sold on McCown either, but I do understand Green reasoning for drafting a WR. If he's satisfied with McCown and he doesn't want to trade down, then I understand why WR is the pick.

P.S. I'm on the trade down - draft Wilfolk bandwagon.

While there is no doubt that San Diego could use an "elite" WR (heck, they could have used one even if they hadn't traded Boston), I do not think that they use their #1 pick for either Fitz or M. Williams.

The reason I think they pass is because they do not have the "delivery system" to take advantage of this skill set. Their offensive system is not WR friendly......a) they do not have a dominant pass protecting offensive line (with a GLARING, and I mean GLARING weakness at LOT) and b) they do not have the right QB to lead this type of an offense. Drafting one of the two elite WR's actually made more sense with Boston as they could have taken the focus off him alone defensively with another quality WR. Now that he's been traded, Fitz and or M. Williams would be in a "fishbowl" there.

They have a run focused offense geared around LT who can also be a pass catching threat out of the backfield when needed. They REALLY need to continue with this offensive strategy.......now is not the time to try and retool completely. IMHO, they need to think with the "big head" and if they do, they will bite the bullet and even though it's not the sexy pick, chose Gallery. He would provide instant results for a critical position of need.

I suppose they could take Eli (with tomorrow in mind). After all, they are certain to have a top three pick next year to use next year for one further piece to their offensive puzzle. Or they can trade out and go after multiple picks. Should they elect to go this route, whoever trades up, will not be after either of Fitz or Williams ( and we will not be a trade up candidate).

I do not see Marty having much influence on the draft personnel wise anyway. He's a lame duck who has been given the caretaker role until next year when they can go after their coach of the future.

I remember before fitz and williams came out people were wondering if roy would be avaliable at 3. So if fitz/Mike Williams are gone why not trade down and get some picks and then add Roy boy?

If denny wants a wr that bad I mean.
