Hey all..... Quick question.

A few years back, for an entire summer, my friends and I would buy one matinee movie ticket, but see many movies in the same day. Before we went, we would plan our day/night so we could see all the movies we could before the theater closed. I think we saw at least 3 movies in a day most of the time.

What are your feelings towards this?
Does anyone else do this?
Am I the reason prices have gotten so high?
Am I the anti-christ?

Obviously, it would be considered a form of shop-lifting I guess. I just wanted to see what the hoard here in ASFN thinks of it.

Never done it, but want to. Technically stealing, but meh.

You arent the reason prices have gone up. You are basically viewing a movie you wouldnt pay for anyway.

Not sure if you are the anti-Christ, but those horns certainly dont help! ;)

How old are you? Seriously just curious as maybe when I was a child I would have tried that but thats about it. The movie prices are ridiculous now but if you can't afford it wait just for the DVD or something geesh. If I can't afford something guess what....I don't get it. Sorry but as a business owner that kind of crap pisses me off.

MESA! :thud:
Never done it, never would.

Probably an equal mix of thinking it's wrong, and fear of getting caught.

I have done it as a kid. Don't go to the movies enough to consider doing it again.

I used to let kids get away with doing it when I worked at the theatres.

I did this when I was in college. Everything was definitely planned well in advance. I always found out what theater each movie was playing in before the first movie started. I always went to the bathroom between showings. I was never caught.

Nowadays I make too much to really care about $8. I've also stopped using my old student IDs.

just not a fan of stealing. not a fan of "free cable" either. someone's effort and money went into something. they deserve to be paid for it. market sets the amount. you don't want to pay for it, don't take it or go see it. how would you like someone skimming off your profit/salary?

I'm with Linder and Ouchie on this. Just doesn't seem right. It isn't that big of a deal that you did though IMO.

I'm glad we all see this as wrong. For the real debate, how many people downloading music from peer-to-peer services is wrong?

I wish I could find this old survey from 2003, but it asked ethical questions. Huge sample ... like 30,000 people. It was something like this:

Is it OK to snoop on someone's medicine cabinet?
Only if you don't get caught - 48 percent
No - 38 percent
Not sure - 14 percent

Do you make illegal music downloads?
Yes, but I feel guilty - 39 percent
Yes, because artists still making lots of money - 39 percent
No, it's not right - 22 percent

My wife and I do it, on occasion, but it's rare we have time for more than one movie in a day. Oh, btw, we are both in our late 30's. ;)

I've done it before, but haven't in a long time. It doesn't take away from the studio's take, what it does is take away from home video sales. Some people advocate also that word-of-mouth would be more valuable than losing that percentage of the box office take.

Granted, it's wrong, but it's like the piracy issue--it is a problem, but it's not nearly as big a problem as the studios make it out to be.

Only did it once. We saw Grease and then Wild Things. It was pretty fun, but probably something I'd never do again.

Government being doing it for years now. :)

Bah, If the theatre really cared it would do something about. That is what happens when your security is made up of teenagers who care more about goofing off and looking at the hot chicks then paying attention to their job.

Hey, you get what you pay for when it comes to labor.

anytimeuwnt, Enjoy the movie, and the $40.00 popcorn.

I was in my mid 20's..... Did it for almost an entire summer.

Yes.... I do download a ton of torrents. Have a P2P mask that ghosts my IP.

Honestly..... I didn't feel guilty then, and I still don't now.

I am in corporate sales..... Maybe I'm just morally challenged.

I don't think I would do it now, It would probably kill my back sitting all day like that.

ehh..... don't have an opinion of my behavior really. Just wanted to see if I was really out on an island by myself.

I did it as a kid on an allowance. Knew it wasn't right, but did it with very little guilt. If any.

Now, no way.

I wouldn't have a problem doing it, but I can't phantom seeing that many movies in one day :headspins:

When we were young, my cousin and I used to sneak into B'way shows at intermisson to catch the second half.:

I did ita few times before, maybe the last time 10-12 yrs ago. Money was tight, I was bored and I didn't feel bad. I wouldn't do it now for lots of reasons.

One time I was in the movies and there was this old guy sitting next to me with like a huge paper grocery bag full of candy. I looked at him and said something like "You come prepared"...his response was "My wife is out of town, its hot out, I'm bored and I plan to be here all day and with what they charge I don't feel bad about it either." It was pretty funny, and when I say old the guy had to be pushing 70 or so...just seemed out of character for someone his age. .

I used to do this all the time, but never more than two movies. I also used to save my popcorn bag and bring it back for the free refill. This was in the late 90's, but then they started putting an x on the bottom of the bag :(

I don't go to theaters too much anymore, since they are all now so congested with teenie boppers and parking is such a mess.

I miss the old Fiest Village Six, Lakes Six, etc. The only place I'll go anymore is Harkins Fiesta 5.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't put it up there with shoplifting. I'd say it's about the same as moving up to better seats at a sporting event or overtipping a bartender that over pours your drinks.

You must have hid in the bathroom for like 20 years. You're like Rip Van Winkle of Movie Toilets.
