Mike Dunleavy (3.6, 2006)
Shane Battier (3.2, 2005)
Memphis gives up
Stromile Swift
Shane Battier
a future first-round pick
Memphis gets
Erick Dampier (sign and trade, starting at $9 million)
Golden State gives up
Erick Dampier
Mike Dunleavy
Golden State gets
Shawn Marion
Zarko Cabarkapa
a future first-round pick from MEM
Phoenix gets one of the best big men left on the market, as well as two versatile team players with good fundamentals. Their logjam at SF/SG gets even worse, but they have the luxury of letting players compete for spots or, if necessary, making additional trades.
Memphis gets the center they’ve had their eyes on for more than a year, and all it costs them is a pick and two players who, apparently, don’t fit into their long-term plans.
Golden State gets an All-Star level player for their future, as well as a decent European project and additional draft help down the road. It costs them Dunleavy, but the option appears to be losing Dampier for nothing.
