I know we've canned coaches before, and we've had horrible seasons before, only to get excited and pumped to suffer more horrible seasons. But Mikey is all on his own and I like the way he handles his business. Had to be hard to can a life long friend like Graves, but he has shown in one day that he has not picked up the snailistic traits. I'm still in shock, thought I would be sitting around all off season with Whiz still collecting his foodstamps here. Mikey bought his ass out and isn't still in the superbowl after glow.

Man, next time I see that man he better be prepared for a hardcore hippie hug.

Agreed on all counts. This dude moves, hes not messing around. You could see it in him in the press conference. He was not happy with what was going on but knew what had to be done.

If he can really bring in Reid with his west coast offense, rejuvinate kolb, with fitz and floyd on the outside and roberts in the slot, draft joeckel at LT, sign levitire from buffalo at LG, and still manage to keep horton? I think we would have something to look forward next year boys

Mike B is all business. The press conference yesterday was impressive. The rumors flying around today are stunning. If he can pull all of this off, his cred throughout the league will go through the roof. Kudos to the new regime!

Keeping Graves and Whiz would have resulted in an exodus of season ticket holders and other fans from UOP. They would have grumbled that it was all about the money and that the ownership didn't want to win.

Now - with the potential hiring of a solid GM, Reid - and his staff, and keeping Horton? I expect the ticket renewals and first time season ticket holder purchases to go way up.

Someone just needs to tell Reid not to say "You got a winner in town!" at his first press conference. :D

Same ol Cardinals until it is proven otherwise.

Sorry, not budging from that stance till I see it happen.

Some big talk after firing the coach that brought the franchise to a Superbowl, and after sucking the life out of the roster that got them there. But, so far....that is all it is. Talk.

We will see.

Good point. Perhaps the greatest factor in the decision to fire Whisenhunt/Graves. It is after all, all about business!

Hiring a coach, keeping him for more than five years and achieving success, that was the part that was not the same old Cardinals. Firing a coach and jumping back into the mix to try to find someone who can clean up a colossal mess, that's ground the Cardinals know very well. Maybe out of the seven firings, the Cards manage to snag the guy who can get it done, but that certainly remains to be seen. I already knew The Bidwills know how to fire people. I've seen it many times before and so far it has only worked out once in the Arizona era.

You can say "until proven otherwise" all you want, but the truth is that they have been proving it for years. You just don't want to see it.

Spent the money to hire the coach with the highest winning percentage among active coaches. The only people that I heard saying it was a mistake were Vikings fans.

Completely changed the way they structure player contracts. Remember all the draft holdouts because they didn't want to do voidable years. Or not renegotiating player contracts until they ran out? I do...but it doesn't happen now.

The hiring process of hiring Whis was all but perfect. They got, not only the guy that they wanted as head coach but got many of the candidates as assistant coaches too. And while it didn't end well, it still resulted in a trip to the Super Bowl.

Oh yeah, WE WENT TO THE FREAKING SUPER BOWL! That is about as un-Cardinals like as they come.

And while firing a coach may be old hat for the Cardinals, doing it quickly and decisively is not. And as before they are moving quickly to fill the spots with viable candidates.

Its almost like there is leadership coming from the owners. Hell, even when they screw up majorly it seems like they are learning from the mistakes. I doubt we will see another situation like Q again, EVER.

So you can say, "Same old Cardinals" as much as you want but they HAVE changed for the better....and are continuing to change every year.

I agree. You'll never convince the SOC crowd however. They are not happy unless they have somthing to grouse about.;)

Plus, they ate the contracts of both Whiz and Graves.

I watched it live. Then watched it a second time.

I honestly never saw "impressive".

I don't know.... Maybe I'm just a tough audience. Impressive would have been if he came out and said, "The buck stops with me. We didn't make it to the Super Bowl and that's not acceptable. Therefore, as owner, I fired every man who didn't pull his weight and produce. If Kolb or Dockett or Fitzgerald don't produce they won't be here either. My name is Michael Bidwill and I'm committed to bringing a ring to Arizona."

THAT would have impressed me.

Promising to bring a ring to a local sports team hasn't worked out so well in the past...

Yes, it's better to just say something like "you've got a winner in town" and leave it at that.

This is not true. Both McGinnis and Green were fired on the Monday after the last game just like Whisenhunt. Both Green and Whisenhunt were hired less than two weeks after the previous coach was fired. Green was reported to be the leading candidate to replace McGinnis almost right away.

The Cardinals didn't even wait until the end of the season in 2000 to announce they were making McGinnis interim Head Coach position permanent. That happened on Dec. 19th 2000.

The press and others also were wrong when the claim was made the Cards didn't have a history of paying guys not to coach as it had happened with both McGinnis and Green.

Graves needed to go years ago. I was never impressed with him. I wish they would hire a strong GM first though, then let the new GM hire the coach he feels he can work well with, but still has authority over when final decisions on personnel needs to be made.

basically my thoughts. The effort has been there recently IMO. Maybe they learned "WOW, winning actually makes us MORE money. That blows my mind" lol

where did we get a 17th game? I like our OTs. And aside from Bradley, every issue is on offense. Can be addressed somewhat simply IMO. We don't suck around the board, there IS something to build on. Our D is young, talented, hard-working, and listens well (except Dockett lol)
