I agree 100% it was a mistake to cut him.

I don't agree you can just assume we would be sitting any better with him at the helm. If anything at most IMO we might have won maybe 1 maybe 2 more games. All everyone would be doing then is bitching that we need a true #1 QB and that they wished we would have lost more to get a better draft pick. Sound familiar?

I see what your saying but had Fitz not started the season injured and we had committed to the running game early on in the preseason Leinart would have had a better understanding of the offense and made less mistakes than Scud. Whis even said Matt had grasped the things he needed him to in the past couple years and he was pleased with his progress. We needed a strong running game and we failed to fix the Oline. It is all intertwined for sure but having a more accurate Qb and someone that had been in the offense would IMO have been enough in this putrid division. Not saying Warner accurate....but better than Scud. Either way the coaches choice put this in motion. Maybe he felt he was going to lose regardless with Leinart( I do not believe this) so might as well save the $$ and go with Scatter arm. Who knows.

I don't know if this is the worst Cards team ever but at least we can take solace in having lost to the worst team in the league and having bested the defending Super Bowl Champs in the same season. I can't imagine there all that many bad teams that can make that claim.

The 6 turnovers in 5 minutes 2003 game against Seattle, at home, in Sun Devil, was much worse than this team.

The 3 win 2000 Dave McGinnis team with the d-line that took a step back to "read" at the beginning of every play was worse than this.

The 1995 Buddy Ryan team (sans Larry, Jamir, and Aeneas who were excellent) that put Seth Joyner at strong safety halfway through the season instead of signing a free agent was worse than this.

...and I've only been watching since 1992. There had to have been worse teams in STL in the 80s.

i thought the 1492 team would benefit from some of the european talent that came over with columbus....nope,
and before that there was the disbanding of the knights templer, if the front office hadn't been so cheap we could have had some great defensive lineman off that. hell they held jerusalem for a hundred years..don't tell me they couldn't play defense,

i did like the 1812 team, i have it on good authority that many of our players were involved in helping the brits torch washington dc......hah!!! they weren't singing hail to the redskins that day, thats for sure,

anyway its certainly been a long strange journey

You forgot Eric Swann from that 95' team. What a dominate defensive lineman. Also Eric Hill was pretty good, and Rob Moore was on that team as well.

This thread is pure histrionics. MOST Cardinals teams that I've seen were worse than this team. The only part of this team that is at an all time low is QB play. Jeff Blake, Josh McCown, Kent Graham, Boomer Esiason, Jake Plummer, Dave Krieg were all better than what we've seen this year.

That's how bad DA, Hall, and to a lesser extent Skelton have been this year. For a team built for passing, that's a recipe for failure.

In 35 years as a Cardinal fan, I've seen some pretty bad teams but this team is, bar none, the worst Cardinals team I've ever seen. Some say the 2003 team was bad but this version makes the 2003 team look like the '72 Dolphins. This team has no heart, no soul, no balls. A majority of the players suck, the coaching staff sucks, the entire organization is falling dangerously close to same ol' Cards status. How the hell we won 4 games is a complete mystery. Only a team this inept can make the 32 ranked offense look like a playoff contender. Christmas night, this team should come out and beg for the fans' forgiveness. Scratch that because 80% of the stadium is going to be filled with Dallas fans.

Total and utter recency bias.

I remember years where the only way we would win is by a 4th quarter comeback. I think we went like 3 seasons without blowing someone out over the course of 60 minutes. This year we have 2 wins like that.

I'd be willing to bet that I've seen more Cardinals football then both of you put together. I've even watched this team lose 12 consecutive games and will contend that those teams(77-78) were the '84 49ers compared to this version.




The 89/91 teams were different in that their starting QB was injured. Lomax had hip issues that ended his career and Rosenbach got hurt in pre-season of 1991 which put us in a QB carousel not unlike this season. Tupa was thrust into the starting job that year. Not handed it on a silver platter like DA. As for 1990, I'm confused as to why you bring this year up as bad. We had a rookie QB who IMO had he never gotten hurt would have had a decent Plummer-like career. But with a few exceptions, that team fought and clawed all season. They at least had heart. This version does not. We had a lot of promise going into 1991 until Rosenbach blew out his knee which damaged his psyche more than his body.

A pathetic organization starting at the top and also a cheap organization. These two things have resulted in this being the worst football franchise in NFL history. The common denomination over the 60+ years I have watched them is ownership. We can bitch about the coaches, players, general manager, play calling, draft picking but in the end it all starts at the top. We got lucky with Kurt Warner. It may be another 50 years before we get lucky again.

well i will always remember 08 with fond memories and even though we didn't officially win getting to the big show will allow me to die with at least a wry smile on my face
