This offseason makes no sense.

This is my last post, I have decided to spend my time more wisely.

This off season just does not make any sense to me. I thought the objective of a GM was to improve your team. Chris Mullin is an idiot and there is no way to predict the actions of someone who does not know what he is doing.

Sign Mike Montgomery as coach
Sign Adonal Foyle to a insane contract
Sign Derrick Fisher as a FA
Reject a sign and trade with the Knicks Nazr Mohammed and Othello Harrington
Trade for Dale Davis and Dan Dickau instead and finds just as stupid GM in John Nash to take Nick Van Exel, who already has an headcase point guard in Damon Stoudamire.

I thought Nash was an idiot already and would have at least made Phoenix the benefitiary and dealt us Theo Ratliff. That was my whole reason for being on this board to make a prediction that I thought was logical, but when you have GM that has no plan at all, how can you make any preditions.

Thanks for listening to me over the last few months.

I guess after telling you for months that the Suns are not going to get Ratliff, you finally have figured out THE SUNS ARE NOT GOING TO GET RATLIFF.

Nash is a fool, but his decision to trade for Nick Van Exel is not entirely stupid. Last season the Blazers really struggled without a solid backup PG and Derek Anderson did not have an espcially good year. NVE proved in Dallas he can backup both guard positions and give them needed outside shooting.

At the same time, I've said for months that I thought Dale Davis was on the market. DD used to backup both C and PF, but with the addition of SAR DD's minutes dropped into the low 20's. He wanted to go, but the Blazers were not willing to take on any long term contracts to make a move which is why the Suns were never REALLY in the hunt.

I have formally given my concession speach. It was a good run. My new target is Tony Battie.

Also, won't the Blazers shed more cap space next summer by the NVE deal? I think it obviously wasn't about personell

But why make the team worse by trading one expiring contract for another?

Dale Davis makes 9 million this season. Dan Dickau under 900,000 (with a TO for next year at about 1.6 mil)

NVE makes 11.8 million. The Blazers clear about 2 million more in cap space. It isn't like Davis played much. He was behind Ratliff, SAR, and Randolph.

NVE may at least start.

So they get a player who may make an impact, and get an extra 2 million under the cap next summer (which has been their goal since Nash took over). Not to mention they now have like 35 max contracts that expire this season to peddle in trades.

The Blazers didn't clear 2 million more in cap space, they added 2 million to this years salary. If there is a luxury tax, they just added 4 million to their salary in this trade. They would have had the same amount of cap space next year if they had just not picked up Dickau's option next year and let DD walk.

How exactly did they get an extra 2 million under the cap through this trade? They took on extra salary by adding NVE so when his contract expires they won't get further under the cap than if they just let Dale Davis's contract expire. The only reason they are shedding any more salary at all is because they included Dickau, who makes $900,000.
