Trade 2 first round picks and get Rivers (in other words just get him). Dump Kolb and Bradley and use that money to acquire Long at OT if he truly does hit the free agent market. We have then just fixed our problems as best as one could hope for in the given situation and would be excited as all get out with the new season. Then in round 2 take a solid QB without reaching...and picking up Norv Turner as a OC would be nice since the buzz is that he will be fired after the season (Rivers then does not have to learn a new offense). I would also like to see the Cards offer Horton the largest contract ever for a DC :)

Rivers is a sniveling little bitch, and I hope I never see him leading this team.

And yes... He is way better than what we have had here recently.
I guess I'm hoping for a miracle here, but I really want a brand new high performance tire , not another retread.

I'm a Kolb fan but that's just awesome. :) I'm down with that.

Who cares what Rivers is. As long as he can play QB like he used to

We couldve traded 2 first round picks and got RG3, why would we do it with a washed up turd like Rivers?

Also, we arent the Raiders. Carson Palmer deal looking great right now.

Because... In addition to be able to throw the ball and read a defense, the position requires leadership ability.. Something he claims to be working on in interviews I have read, but it's something he rarely portrays on the field.

One of the causes of that is Norv Turner. He is a "players coach" much like Dennis Erickson.

I doubt the Rams would have preferred that offer over the (something like) 3 1st round picks plus a 2nd round pick they received from the Skins. Especially since their 2012 pick was far more valuable than ours.

Carson Palmer is having a pretty good year I think. Look at their WR corp, it's putrid and their starting RB's and OL have been down(sounds familiar). Plus, he cost a 1st and a 2nd, not two 1sts.

Beside, RG would have cost the Cards more because they picked lower. With that, it's going to cost more for the Cards to move up and get Geno Smith, he's the only guy they would target to trade up and select, than it will be to acquire Rivers.

I'd be completely on board with that approach. Bottom line, we need a veteran QB & we also need to draft one (2nd rounder). I also think that we need to replace BOTH our G's & look to also upgrade the C position if possible.

Stop talking about draft picks. Especially 1st rounders. The Cards are not the Raiders and good teams don't trade away draft picks.

I see where you're coming from, but physical ability is more important in the NFL than leadership skills (although the truly great ones have both...see Manning, Brady..)

For example, I would take Rivers' physical skills and alleged lack of leadership of over Max Hall's leadership and lack of physical skills.

Rivers is just 1 season removed from a year with more yards than any Cardinal in their history. On pace for 4000 yards with mid 80s QB rating isn't exactly terrible. Still, I would prefer to develop our own talent as we have too many missing pieces and by the time we our contenders, Rivers will be on his downside if not already.

If I'm not mistaken, a lot of Rivers' struggles this year have been thought to be related to an inconsistent WR corps (yes it's "corps", not "core"), i.e. no Vincent Jackson like threat ("Hello Fitz!") and OL struggles in SD.

Obviously, we have serious OL problems, too. But since we're talking about the OP, Fitz and Jake Long seem like the perfect antidote to River's problems.

It's too good to be true, which is why I'm trying not to get to carried away by the mere possibility. After all, who would REALLY wanna get rid of Rivers in SD after just one bad season?

Kolb's contract is so bad that cutting him would possibly prevent us from getting Rivers. We'd save a little money but cutting Bradley, but that's only because his on-paper salary for 2013 is so high.

We cut Kevin Kolb before his $2 million roster bonus kicks in, and he's an $11.6 million albatross on our salary cap. I'm not sure what salary number makes sense--or even if we can convince him to waive off his 2013 roster bonus somehow.
