Every March, after reading as much draft stuff as I can find, and checking it againsy my own remembered perceptions, I pick one player who I think is being mis-evaluated by the gurus and will turn out to be a huge bust.

A few years ago, some of you may remember from the old AOL board that I picked Claiborne, the USC LB.

Two years ago on the old azprosports board, I went round and round with DcCardsfan and Russ about David Terrell.

I won't mention the times I was wrong (Randy Moss does come to mind).

This year the guaranteed over-rated bust is WR Andre Johnson. He is a WR with no moves who also can't catch. Andre's workout numbers have wowed the scouts into ignoring the tape evidence.

Nobody ever, ever, learns good hands. You have them or you don't. He doesn't.

Andre Johnson will be a bust. How big a bust depends on where he's drafted. There is no question he will fail as an NFL WR; the only question will be the perceived level of failure. The higher a player is picked, the harsher the judgment when he fails.

My vote goes to the one year wonder Carson Palmer!

But your choice is a good one as well Skkorp!

I too agree that Carson will not live p to his draft position next year. Hopefully for him hes not thrown to the wolves too early.

I do not care who he is Skorp just so it is not the guy we draft. My choice for all time big bust was the QB we drafted and who never camp Kelly Stoufer. Yuk!

Jenkins and his hands

If one cannot teach having better hands and either you can catch or not... why would we want Jenkins back other than what he can give us on special teams. McAddley and Gilmore have speed equal to Jenkins. Just a thought.

I'm going to step out on a limb and say Byron Leftwich.

Sure he has the potential to be great, but he seriously lacks athleticism. I'm not sure he will be able to handle the pass rush he will see in the NFL. I think this will lead to him forcing the ball and throwing INT's. For where he will be drafted I think he will end up as this years BUST.

Big, slow, strong armed QBs take a BEATING. Ask Rob Johnson, Vinnie Testeverde, Bledsoe....... Of course LEftwich has a fast release. While that may complete the pass, it won't save him from getting smacked.

That is SOOO UNTRUE!

Big, Slow, but lightening release describes Dan Marino perfectly!

He was one of the least sacked QBs in history! The release can mean everything!

Shane, you took the words right out of my mouth in regard to Marino. He was about as immobile as any QB I've seen, but his release (and a few other things) did make him a truely unique player.

Anna Nicole Smith didn't she play EndTackle on the team. If i remember right she would sit with the water jugs and if anybody tried to get some she would tackle them. WOW what a player...

Kyle Boller. His rise up the draft charts remind me of Akili Smith.

Are you talking about Chris Claibore, the starting LB for the Lions? He's a good player. If Takeo Spikes hadn't been on the market, Claiborne would have been the premier all-purpose LB in free agency this season. He's not Ray Lewis, but he'd start on at least 75% of the teams in this league, and can play all positions. He's a Top 10 LB in this league, but doesn't get a lot of Pub because he's in Detroit.

I will say that Leftwich will be the bust of the draft if he's selected in the Top 15. Then... Andre Johnson if he's taken in the top 25. There's no way that you waste a top "lottery" pick on a project that can't catch.

Busts etc

AZCB34: I agree about Suggs. Same problem as all the other "flashy" college DE's----size. Maybe some gambling GM will decide to put him back at RB, H-Back or some such. Could be interesting because the kid IS a hell of an athlete.

Too lazy to start another thread with this comment so I will put it here. To me the new stadium looks like a bundt cake pan upside down. But HEY!---I can live with it!!!!!!!! Just as long as it gets built.

Carson Palmer is going to suck big time and William Joseph will be a journeyman at best.

Andre Johnson reminds me of Clyde Duncan who we drafted number 1 out of Tennessee, no hands, and probably the biggest draft bust for the Cardinals in my memory.

Admittedly he didn't play in a big conference but look at the sack numbers for LEftwich in college the guy isn't getting hit all that much.

Guys who have a feel for when to unload don't get that much. Look at Harrington I bet he can't beat McMahon in a race if he's running 30 yards and McMahon 40, but he rarely got sacked and McMahon got hit over and over behind the same line.

I think the fear on Leftwich is weight and in particular in his lower body, if he doesn't keep in shape and gets heavy then it could really impact him, he could be a guy with a series of muscle pulls because his legs are too big. That's really my biggest concern on him I think speed is overrated in QB's for the most part they win games with their arms.

It's nice to run a 4.2 40 like Vick but that's so rare it's almost pointless to downgrade a guy who can't run if he has the other strengths that Leftwich has.

I too think Johnson has major bust potential although again I can see us seriously considering drafting him because we lost Boston. He's one of the 2-3 best athletes in the draft and that alone will get someone to pick him. At his best he's a Pro Bowler the problem has been consistency. In fairness to him he hasn't played with a QB who had the arm to get him the ball deep.

I kind of agree with Section 11 on Woolfolk, and I also still have Kennedy tabbed as a bust.
