I only saw the first drive because after that Red Zone was watching other games mostly. Statistically he didn't play well, sounds like pass pro was a problem.

Other than that, how did he look? The first drive he was ok, not great not bad.

I think the nice thing with him so far in the preseason is the lack of picks, in college he forced a ton of passes, not doing that so far. Accuracy still an issue but hopefully the lack of INT's is a sign he's getting that he has to value the ball.

I still don't expect to see him on the field all year and wouldn't surprise me at all if he's still #3 next year.

Offense as a whole looked terrible. Of course it wasn't the offense that we will be running come the regular season.

Most concerning was the play of our two tackles. Potter and Sowell were both getting beaten on a routine basis. My guess is that the Cardinals don't keep either of them and scour the waiver wire for a backup.

Thomas didn't look that great either. Although he wasn't getting any help from his OL or his WRs.

If we are going to be honest, he looked awful. Absolutely awful. My son and I sat on the couch and were laughing at his performance.

Now, some of that was definitely attributed to line play. Some of it MAY have been attributed to the recievers running wrong routes and/or dropping balls.

Not trying to be overly dramatic but other than the first drive that was one of the worst offensive performances I've ever seen. I don't know off the top of my head what the difference was in TOP but it was lopsided. A bunch of 3 and outs.

For right or for wrong, I feel as if BA mishandled Thomas by freezing him out of Game 2 and thus not capitalizing on Thomas' momentum and rhythm following Game 1.

Giving young players 2 weeks to think in between action is rarely a good thing.

As for last night, the pass protection was brutal, Russ. The Cardinals' second string OL (Potter---Cooper---Estes---Watford---Sowell) was getting owned by Cordarro Law, Thomas Keiser, Joe Kruger and Chas Alecxih.

There is no question that the constant pressure had its effects on Thomas' throws.

And there were drops too---Brittan Golden dropped a long pass up the left sideline that was right in his hands---and one botched catchable pass led to Darby's interception.

Compounding the matter---Harold Goodwin was calling the pure vanilla plays---and the offense only converted one third down all night---plus, with only Powell, Golden and Buckner playing WRs, those guys were gassed.

One nice early wrinkle which you saw was the waggle pass to Niklas---and if and when Thomas gets some serious PT, much can be done to maximize Thomas' athleticism.

They did call a speed option which the Chargers closed in quickly on and Thomas pitched the ball when he really should have kept it himself. if he had hit the hole faster it might have been a big yardage play.

They tried a screen (it seems no matter who is coaching or who is playing QB, the Cardinals can't ever run a decent screen pass) and it was a bust, and they tried a QB draw, only Thomas didn't sell the pass, so it was easy to defend.

That and he was staring down recievers, holding on to the ball too long, and making poor decisions.

I've said it here on ASFN before. I've watched a ton of his senior season games and I'm not sold on the guy. Not sure if he is the QBOTF.

So he looked like Andrew Luck vs AZ last year? Or CP in SEA?

Agree with all of that.

IMO Thomas not playing in week 2 of the preseason had zero effect on his play. To suggest that Thomas mentally couldn't handle a week off between playing is just silly.

I've already said this before but the Texans have ZERO depth. They made Thomas look much better than he actually is. Thomas's play late in the 4th quarter of that game was not indicative of how he had looked at practice.

Thomas is exactly where I expected him to be at this point. He is still very raw and needs more time learning the NFL game.

.

He looked like you would expect him to look based on the scouting reports. Game one was lightning in a bottle which showed the potential of how a guy with those gifts could be special if he can hone the mechanics to fix the accuracy.

Not sure why BA sat him but in the long run his maturation and development
will be a project and his footwork and poise will have to be coached up while running scout team over the next year and then we'll see next preseason if he was fixable. I almost appreciate his realistic performances so everyone doesn't take the IV koolaid drip all year thinking he is all that. Remember that feeling with Max Hall etc? If he can be fixed this staff is the staff to do it.

Harold Goodwin was rightly calling pure vanilla, since we play them in our first game. And while LT is no Ryan Lindley (smiley face), there is a lot of tape for the coaches to use as a teaching tool. For the rest of us, save the game tape and compare it to his performance next summer. Just imagine how you'd feel if you had to pay to watch this game.

The guy is a project. Looked to me like he was trying to stay in the pocket no matter what and with the horrible protection it was recipe for disaster.

Not much touch on his passes. I was getting Skelton flashbacks.

He looked like a guy who gets offered a spot on the practice squad because he is a known quantity. People are projecting a roster spot for him, but there is no reason to protect him. In the unlikely event that another team poaches him, the Cardinals can go get somebody better.

I haven't watched the game yet--I have it on DVR and will take a look this afternoon after work. Hard to spin that stat line, though. The silence on Logan Thomas following the game was pretty deafening.

The development of Logan Thomas stops effective immediately. He might as well be playing Madden for the next six to eight months. All energy is going to be focused on helping the guy who can help you win, and Logan Thomas isn't one of those guys right now.

Can he develop and be better next season? I don't know. That's largely on his shoulders. The good news is that he's going to get a lot of exposure to how the NFL works over the next six to eight months. If he can internalize those lessons and make it automatic and instinctive, he might.

Didn't like the Cards taking him in the draft and don't like him now. He is a Derek Anderson clone.

The Texans have zero depth?

In their 32-7 win over the Falcons they shut out the Falcons in the 2nd half and limited T.J. Yates to 4/12/63 yds./0 TDs/2 ints.

In their 18-17 win over Denver---again shout out the Broncos in the 2nd half, limiting Brock Osweiller to 4/11/43/0 TDs/1 int.

Thomas deserves more credit for his performance versus the Texans than you are giving him. Cooper and Minter missed two weeks and they were talking about the difficulty of shaking off the rust. Imagine what it is like for a young QB.

Nah. Thomas is more like a homeless man's Cam Newton. Great size, good mobility, just scatter-armed.

Cooper and Minter missed two weeks of practice reps. That's the difference.

Thomas was in a no win situation with the way the line protected him last night. Defenders were coming in untouched or man handled our guards with ease. Felt bad for LT. Had to force the ball out with little or no time and when he did have half a second his recievers would drop or run wrong routes. He did over throw a few times but he was probably shell shocked at that point. Offense for a whole looked horrible along with Goodwins play calling. FUGLY!

The OL didn't help him, but when he had time, he missed throws. Was it because he was worried about getting hit? Who knows, but there wasn't one accurate throw that he made in the second half. He was doing well on the first drive, but that was really it.

I am glad we have LT. I look forward to the day he becomes the starter, but he still needs alot of work.

Yeah, it was actually more typical as to how he looked in college. I don't know where the Houston performance came from. He played out of his mind in that game.

Hope one of these days he becomes that type of QB during every game he plays. :D

Is LT a NFL caliber player? Yes, but not at this point. He needs alot of grooming, which he's has plenty of time. I'd still like to see him behind the ones for a true indicator of his talent.

Honestly if he had a better OL last night, I think he would have played a little better. I think he got skidish out there after getting hit a few times and his mind was on that rather then the throws.

Thomas is not our answer for the future. We're going to have to draft a QB high in the draft in 2015. JMO.
