I think Cards draft 2 guys out of this bunch today

I thought Desir was going to be our second in the third.

I think Seantrel Hendersen RT will go in the 4"th , He has 1'st rnd. talent , but carries the Honey Badger flag's . If he is still there at 120 , I hope SK will roll them dice . I did back-ground work on this player , and came away thinking that his most pressing need is "GET A LONG DAMN WAY FROM SOUTH BEACH " Floyd knows him , played on the same high school team together . I looked at the national map and concluded that the Zona Desert was a long way from South Beach .

My problem is with the evaluation and quality of the draft board - When we have Bucannon valued so far above every other team in football- by a whole round! Now pick up the phone and ask any other team to trade a first round pick for him at any time in the next 20 years! Listen to the laughter as they slam the phone in your face!

Ditto with the TE and the WR at their draft positions, just because we don't have a glaring need doesn't mean we should be stupid about the draft. I'm just curious about who hits a 1000 yard rushing in the NFCW first next year? Hyde, Gore, Lynch or Mason? While they beat the hell out of Ellington and Dwyer and force us to pass into coverage every 3rd down probably doubling our offensive turnover production in the NFCW.

But we will blame it on palmer and the Oline , again.

for the most part smelly I agree with you...and have not been too happy with this draft so far...

but after some consideration I came away with this....

a few picks after we drafted Bucannon..... Ward was drafted....Bucannon was rated higher, and Ward was the last decent safety in the draft......

a few picks after we drafted Niklas...Fedorowiczawhatever was drafted...Niklas was rated higher,...and fedorowhatever was the last decent TE prospect....

Perhaps what we are seeing, is not that the Cards had these guys rated higher than the other teams in the league....but instead that the teams in the league had these guys rated much higher than the media/draft gurus.

safety and TE are two positions that traditionally get crapped on come draft day....like FB,...or G......especially by the mel kippers of the world.......the non sexy pick gets pushed back in rankings because there is not a lot of glory to discuss, nor a lot of stats to build a guy up.

I like Bucannon...but wanted him in the second round....really like Niklas,...but wanted him in the third round....by the way the draft played out, that just was not gonna happen.

Shazier to the Steelers....that was a real WTF?? kind of pick,lol......may be a reach for Pitt, but good for the kid...happy for him.

Just some names and thoughts on day 3.

So far we have added S, TE, OLB and WR. We have filled needs. Now where do we go?

Starting with positions, I think we can cross out TE, C, NT & S. Depth at those positions in not great in this draft and I'm not sure there are guy sleft who can beat out what we have on the roster.

A QB is a possibility but I don't think we will add one. RB, WR, OT, DE, LB and CB are it from there.

Lets get some names...

RB (targeting players with similar skills to Ellington)

Devonta Freeman - Florida St.
De'Anthony Thomas - Oregon
Storm Johnson - Central Florida
Lache Seastrunk - Baylor

WR (targeting more speed and overall athletes)

Bruce Ellington - South Carolina
Martavis Bryant - Clemson
Jeff Janis - Saginaw Valley St.
Brandon Coleman - Rutgers
Robert Herron - Wyoming
Ryan GRant - Tulane
Tevin Reese - Baylor

OL (Physical players/RTs)

Antonio Richardson - Tennessee
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif - McGill
David Yankey - Stanford
Dakota Dozier - Furman

DE (3-4 guys)
Brent Urban - Virginia
Taylor Hart - Oregon
Josh Mauro - Stanford
Deandre Coleman - California

LBs (in general)
Chris Smith - arkansas (olb)
James Gayle - West Virginia (olb)
Zach Moore - concordia (olb)
adrian Hubbard - alabama (olb)
carl Bradford - arizona St.
Trevor Reilly - Utah

CB (long)

Bashaud BReeland - Clemson
Pierre Desir - Lindenwood
Jaylen Watkins - Florida
Marcus Roberson - Florida
Louchiez Purifoy - Florida
Keith McGill - Utah
Terrence Mitchell - Oregon
Aaron Colvin - Oklahoma
Antone Exum - Virginia

Great list Chopper. The depth at CB still left is pretty amazing. I would love to have almost any one of those guys. Desir, McGill, Roberson/Purifoy all have serious talent.

I really liked the story behind Laurent Duvernay-Tardif at OT. For LB Bradford, Reilly, and Hubbard all look good.

For speed backs Seastrunk and DeAnthony Thomas have value. I would also consider KaDeem Carey here, guy is tough as nails. He brings a great skill set to compliment Ellington.

Tons of speed at WR left. With Ginn and now Brown I am not sure how many spots we will have left but almost all on your list especially Ellington and Reese.

I would love to see the Cards trade down and get another pick or two today. Lots of talent left. I wish we would have been able to flip the John Brown pick, for maybe a 4th and a 7th yesterday.

And for those arguing that we seem to be drafting more for need than BPA. SK tried to explain the difference, and this is what I came away with:
1. You stick to your board, and thus draft the BPA.
2. When you build your board, need DOES play a part in how you stack your board.
3. So it's probably a case of semantics, when you say that you are going to pick the BPA at a position of need.

He also said something about players that fit your scheme too.

Have we gotten any indication from the staff that Martin will be an OLB? I have him pegged as a DE.

He would have to bulk up to be a 3-4 DE, maybe 15-20 lbs to get to 285-290, don't think he has any experience playing standing up and dropping into coverage to be a OLB.

I hope ARZ takes Bradford as he is the best OLB prospect available who can actually play the position and won't be a converted DL like a Jackson Jeffcoat would be. If Jeffcoat is still around in Round 5 or 6 I would take a flyer and continue the annual tradition of taking UT pass rushers.

That said I think ARZ takes a QB, CB & LB (inside or outside)

My hope is for:
4 - Carl Bradford
5 - Pierre Desir
6 - Tom Savage

yes your right

Your right, I see that our guys could have been taken soon after our picks. And I like Bucannon and Niklas . Maybe I'm stuck in the old days where Safeties and blocking TE's are a dime a dozen - And RB's touch the ball 50% of the offensive plays, even if they only last 3 years- they are very important for 3 years!

But the NFCW is stuck in the old daze too! And winning - we have a hell of a lot tied up in our 2ndary in a run first division. Maybe they will adjust to us- but I think not- I think they will run more than 50% of the time, reduce turnovers and we will have to outperform them in pass game against ball hawking defenses.

The NFCW have and accumulation of talent from years of sucking, are picking
and building the opposite of the mainstream NFL - except for us. look at the multiple 1st round picks for the NFCW in the last few years. Except us, We won 10 missed the playoffs and pick late in each round. The worst of all worlds, going forward.

And pick an 186 lb WR ranked number 186 at 91 because of why? speed, quickness? I think the 16 WR's falling off the back of NFL rosters as they draft 16 in the first 2 days, can compete with Mr. Brown! was he even close to the BPA available at 91? I think not. I think our draft board is suspect.

I think we got less for more than any team in the NFL, again. Hope I'm wrong

Man I hope not. Guy quits on his own Pro Day? I have never seen it before. Don't have a Pro Day if you are so out of shape two months after the season that you can not complete it. Also failed a pot test going into the draft. This guy is in the midst of a downward spiral. Honey Badger was working hard to get better and passed the pot test at the combine.

I think Keim is looking for high effort guys and team captains, more the opposite type of player Henderson represents.

everybody but the Cardinals and the fans

Everybody in the free world, Hey I'm not saying NFLN, ESPN, CBS, Fox and other NFL GM's are experts on our team needs or player grades. But Keim is not 1-4 rounds smarter than any of them or collectively.

I'm just saying everybody had the player ranked at 52 and he was #1 on our board at 20! Our TE was taken at 52 when everybody had him ranked at 72 - We did good on the 84 pick ranked about 72- then took the 186 ranked 4.3 speedy WR at 91 - he weighs 179 lbs soaking wet , which I haven't seen work out well in the NFL since - well there were safer bets on the board at every pick.

I just expected to get a couple players at great value by mainstream standards like last year. This is a deep draft and so far I haven't seen us get very much better. While the rest of the NFCW has. If we truly picked BPA instead of chasing needs or desires we would have been greatly improved on both sides of the ball.

unless our draft board and the people that put it together are screwed up again. there were some no brainers at each position!

Agree.

I'm not sold on Henderson. Quitting on his Pro Day was really bad

He's more of a UDFA

You mean franchise QB that will backup for 1-2 years? I think if we were high on a mid-round QB we wouldn't have reached on Brown, IMO.

Yes, but those are what I see as needs, not what we will select on day three. I don't see pass rush LB or backup QB with long-term potential left in the draft, unless they want mettenger on a flyer late in the draft.

Backup QB is still a need, just not a big one. I'd rather see RT and depth kind of players now.
