Nice post Mitch and I agree with the excitement being created by the defense. Emerging stars with Washington, Peterson and Campbell is already there in my opinion. I thought DD really showed up big today also. Lenon also had some big plays and played hard.

I am not as excited about Skelton as you and others. I hope his accuracy issues are correctable.

Happy New Year To All.
He was being rotated in all game, looks like they were using a combo of all 5 CB's, im guessing trying to see what they have in all them.

Mitch pretty much covered everything I was thinking (for the first time I can remember). A few additional isolated comments:

- Why was #30 (M Green) - a raw rook - out on the field when Marshall and Adams figured to be better #3's & 4's?

- Chippiness happens - that rash of knuckleheaded penalties almost cost us the game. Most of the Cardinal guys involved should have known better.

- Season was a failure because we didn't make the playoffs, but I will always consider this group of Cardinals the most memorable and praiseworthy of any I can ever remember because of the sheer grit they showed digging their way out of a deep hole and clawing their way to .500. What a year! (If I'm trying to teach my new grandson what competing in team sports is all about, all I need do is point to this group of merry warriors and exclaim; "Now that's what I'm talking about)!"

I am most excited about this defense. Yes we got tagged with 2 big plays and were a bit fortunate that Jackson over threw a couple of receivers, but I no longer feel like our opponent is going to march down the field every time they get the ball. I was actually HAPPY we lost the OT coin toss.
This group never seems to get down. The offense turns the ball over and we simply hold them to a FG.
Toler will be returning as will Dan Williams. Add some depth to our LB corp and a pass rush specialist and we indeed finally have a DEFENSE!

The defense really stepped up on those last few SEA possessions. I believe the last three or four times SEA had the ball, when the score was already tied, we forced them to punt.

Big, big difference from even a year ago, or our playoff teams. At the end of a game, our defense can get stops.

Along to with what is mentioned above, if we can improve the oline and get good QB play, we'll battle SF for the division championship next year.

I really like Holliday too. What a great pick up. He seemed to be going at full speed in the last week of the season so I think we should give him another run at it if he still wants to play. In the post game interview it sounded like he loves being on this team and would play for us again if given the chance. I know he's ancient in NFL years but he doesn't play like it.

Out of the wily vets, Wilson, Lennon and Holliday are the keepers. I think Haggins may have another year vs. the run on 1 and 2nd downs. He's slowed down a lot though.

Haggans will turn 35 next week. Lenon will be 35 and Holliday 37 before the end of next season. I wonder if any NFL team had that many defensive players that old all on the field at the same time. Kurt Warner had great seasons in Arizona at 37 and 38 years of age.

Is there a secret fountain of youth near Warner and Hardy? Or maybe it's just that desert air.

It sure was one wild ride this season. :)

The division seems to be in pretty good shape for the future with the 49ers 13 win season and the Cards with 8 wins and Seahawks with 7 wins on the rise.

With that win, only one of Whiz's five seasons has been a losing one.

But only two have been winning ones. However, we all remember what happened in year 3 the last time the Cards went 5-11 then 8-8 with a strong finish.
