Crawled Through 5 FB Fields
1. What a tantalizing choice this must have been for the Cardinals...as many of us thought there would be some major surprises sitting there at #31...the three that come to mind are:
RB Beanie Wells
DE Everette Brown---IMO the most effective and natural edge rusher in this draft, but is on the smaller side and is light, which doesn't exactly fit the Steeler, er Cardinal, OLB criteria...but still this kid could have helped in an area that needs fresh legs and quicker bursts.
LB Rey Maualuga---an ILB who really could have been the heir apparent to LB Karlos "Wanna Make a Splash" Dansby.
In Wells the Cardinals get the most physically talented RB in this draft. The concers obviously are his durability and what kind of a match he is for the current offense. The turf toe injury is a bugaboo and could continue to be. But, this is where this pick could turn into a gold mine for the Cardinals: Beanie, let us re-introduce you to John Lott. Lott brought Hightower in. called him Baby Huey and went right to work on prepping him for making a mark as a rookie. If the same happens for Wells, the Cardinals will have a two-headed monster at RB in Hightower and Wells. Forget that some they they are too similar. It doesn't matter. What matters is they are both agressive, tough football players who aspire for greatness.
Also, in two years after Warner is gone, the entire emphasis of this offense may be put on the smashmouth running game...at that point Hightower will be heading into his 4th year and Wells into his third. Along the way a speed RB will be added to compliment the other two, perhaps even in this draft later on.
As for Drew Rosenhaus' prediction that Q would be traded by the end of the first round, this is where Rosenhaus is damaging his clients. He has a totally jaded and unrealistic outlook on what the market is and what teams are willing to pay, especially for his cadre of disgruntled "me first: WRs. Sad to know Q is one of them.
