At this early stage I'd be wary of taking anything MJ and Bick are saying and then jumping to conclusions.

If you accept Wiz's season-recap presser, the evaluation process (coaches,, players, processes, policies) has barely even started.

The only thing remotely resembling sound football logic was their nondescript comment about the Cardinals seeking an "impact player" with their #5 pick. (Surprise surprise! What - their goal would be to draft someone not expected to make big plays)?

My guess is that MJ and Bick either (a) talking to a few Cardinal sources who "may say they know, but do they really?" or (b) are blurring the lines between speculation, fact and rumor.

The Bulger rumor is beginning to regularly rise from the dead with a frequency similar to the perennial cries to "bring back Mike Ditka."

Bottom line -MJ and Bick are jumping the gun. Nothing's been decided - not even remotely.

A lot of people have a lot more faith in Skelton's future than I do. If he is the backup to who ever we sign in FA then we are projecting him as our QBOTF. I do not see that ever being the case. Just another wasted 5 years. Draft a QB who just might have a chance to be the real QBOTF. Sure it is a gamble but teams do that.

I am not convinced of this kid either. I get why they drafted him because he has that prototypical QB size. However, he was a project type pick. You can't rest your hat on that. No matter who they go out and get in FA, I think you need to try and get a QB of the future in the draft.

What I fear is that the Cards will use the need for a defensive play-maker as an excuse to not pick up the much more important QB.

Skelton has a long way to go and should be no higher than two on a wise teams depth chart.

Fitz getting traded will get at least one more #1.

I really believe the Cards will talk to Fitz in the nest 3 weeks & find out where he stands, if a new deal can't be agreed upon (which I don't think will), they will try to trade him during the draft. If that doesn't work he will be unloaded during the season before the deadline. The Cards management has painted themselves into a corner & will try to save face by getting something though I don't like the thought of trading him

People do no like hearing it Buckybird but it only makes sense. Fitz minced no words when he said he wanted to play for a team that can help him get a ring. He will not be overwhelmed with money which we do not often do anyway. He will be gone either via trade or walk away from it all after next year. He is a class act and I take him at his word.

Above average QB, check. Top WR, check. Outstanding running game, check. Outstanding pass rusher, check. Defensive Rookie of the year at LB x two, check.

Everything we want right?

That's the Houston Texans, they finished 6-10. What the heck happened?

But you would be willing to annoint a rookie straight out of college as the #1?

Why is that, are they afraid they are going to have to pay to keep their players? Are they afraid that the minimum cap will be higher? Are they afraid there will be a provision that you can't dump 30+ mill worth of salaries from 1 year to the next and just pocket it?

Darren Urban today used the Carolin Panthers statement that "they will not be resigning any of their FA until the CBA is resolved" as evidence that there are some FOs who are taking this track... and usually that means he's providing excuses for our own. Yay! We're following the model of a team that just went 2-14! Hooray!

All this wait until the CBA is done, we're afraid crap is just that... crap. I've seen players sign extensions all season. as there been a TON of them? No, but there have been extensions and it's not like FA weren't signed by other teams last year to multipl year long deals. Hell, just yesterday, Mike Williams, a guy who was out of football and had just an OK season this year was signed to an extension by the Seahawks. It can, has and WILL happen for teams that aren't reactive/passive *******, like our FO seemingly ALWAYS is.

The team cant be to concerned about it. they got Dockett done to a huge one under the current system and labor concerns.

Worst secondary in NFL history happened.

How could they be that bad with such a good pass rush? Or were the Texans with Mario Williams not able to generate a top pass rush?

Regardless it means that in addition to a great QB, a solid run game, great LBs, and one of the NFL's top receivers you also need a decent secondary.

Evidence that just getting a guy like Andrew Luck isn't going to change our fortunes.

Looking at the talent we have on the team in addition to a great QB we need some coaches who can get the talent we have on the offensive line and on the defense to play to their capabilities. And even then we still need better ILBs and pass rushers.

Therefore I'm not in favor of giving away several draft picks for a top QB this season that could be used to upgrade the defense. There will be another can't miss QB next season.

I've only seen the Cards have a top defense once in the last 40 years. I'd like to see one more before I go to the special place in heaven reserved for lifetime Cardinal fans.
