I absolutely love this guy, he has a strong leg, and he has hit his field goals well.

But I have seen him make TWO outstanding tackles after his kick. I am talking tackles that Gramatica would have had NO chance at.

I like him and think he has shown enough to get a shot at this team.

All 4 kickers could

start on an other team.....Player is a stud but The other guy boomed some punts himself...Can we keep Duncan as the K/O guy and Gramattica for F/G's? I guess we have more pressing needs...man this weeks gonna be tough on coaches with so many good quality players to choose from...Nice problem to have though :)

I got to say it's not going to happen Beerz. Gramatica looks better this year than last. He got a touchback in the second half and then he drilled that 51 yard late in the game.

I think the competition is over, and Gramatica is a lock. You can't discount he's probably responsible for more than half of Mac's career wins as well. That was a good tackle by Duncan though.

Billy G has a lot of things going for him:

1. He's a draft pick
2. He's been in the games when they count, and won games for this team
3. He's "flashier" than Tim Duncan
4. He's getting better at kickoffs, and as long as he keeps them inbounds, he's going to be fine. He can't help it if the special teams don't want to learn how to tackle.

A good kicker can make the difference between a coach on the hot seat getting an extension and stealing paper to print his resume on, just look at Coach Mac and Dave Campo last year. Mac has to hitch his wagon to the guy that he knows won't choke when the game's on the line, and that's Billy G.

Chandler AZ.
Duncan

didn't get much air under his kickoffs, hence, no coverage. Guillermo got alot of air under all of his, more time for coverage.
Guillermo.

Guillermo.

This is the KEY..................Duncan averages 70 yds and Billy 67 yds..........but Billy has about .5sec to .6sec longer hang time, which translates into 5 more yards of coverage.

Conclusion - Billy G has better kickoffs than Duncan at this time. You have to look at the total play........unfortunately coverage and tackles are another thread and problem.

Billy has shown he does not choke under pressure and he seems to have gotten his celebration under control. If we have to depend on kickers making the tackle on special teams we are in trouble anyhow. I like Duncan also but Billy has done enough to keep his job.
