The really funny thing is to read the comments on a few Mav websites, where Mav fans actually are defending Joey Crawford's call!

I don't know what your smoking but all I've read is that JC is one of the worst refs in the game (who holds personal grudges against ANY team that pisses him off) and Duncan looks ridiculous when he argues a call (which is every single one called on him). So reading that small summary about JC saying Duncan was complaining the entire game and Duncan saying JC was out to get him I don't know who to believe.

It's one thing to "T" a guy when he's complaining. I thought Duncan should've been T'd up after complaining about the weak offensive foul he was called for. Joey Crawford waited until Duncan was on the bench and Tim said something to him before the 1st T, but the 2nd one was just insane. You can't give a guy on the bench a technical for laughing and clapping (whether you think he's mocking your officiating ability or not). Joey Crawford should be mocked and his reaction of tossing Duncan for that deserves to be mocked.

The new zero tolerence rule was supposed to clean up the game, but all it does is highlight the inaccuracies of the refs even more because whenever they blow calls badly they T up the guy they just screwed over for reacting normally.

It was a horrible call that the league should look at and penalize JC for, but it was somewhat good to see. How many other officials would do that to Timmay and the Spurs? It'd be interesting to see how he calls a Spurs game, if he gets a chance to.

Actually I agree with the call. Not so much as in I think it was the right call or a proper techincal to call, but in that it has been a long time coming.

Duncan has been whining to the damn refs the entire season and barely ever called. He whines after almost every possesions when he gets a foul called on him. Sometimes he even was seriously complaining or more than pushing the boundry of what was getting other players technicals.

Right now amare is flirting with a game suspension for such things as having angry looks on his face, kicking the court (I understand how slamming/kicking/throwing the ball can disrupt play but kicking the court?), slapping his hands together, even daring to utter a single word to a ref after a foul call and a couple more ridiculous technicals that I know happened but don't remember.

Duncan deserved this.

*Oh and btw crawford is still an cornholio.

Another thing I forgot to mention is wow does dallas hate the spurs.

Dallas has their seed locked up and I was 90% sure they were just going to rest this game and tank it.

Instead Dirk and Howard played 36 mintues and terry 32 showing that the mavs wanted to win this one and beat the spurs.

No respect to the spurs from dallas it seems. Stackhouse wasn't kidding when he said dallas is focusing on the spurs.

It is also possible dallas took this win so that the suns would have a better chance to win the suns vs spurs series with home court. Seems dallas would rather have a better chance at a dallas vs suns Wconf than a Dallas vs spurs.

Thanks Dallas and thanks Crawford I guess..

If this is a playoff game, Popovich must punch Crawford

But I think NBA give too much power to the referee, isn't it?

The NBA heirarchy says all the right things about monitoring the refs, reviewing every call, etc. -- yet the number of bad calls and missed calls doesn't seem to get any better. Yes, Duncan complains a lot (in part because he can get away with it), but the inability of the refs to make calls consistently is a huge problem.

The question of how games are called is brought up in every sport. Holding could be called on every play in the NFL and MLB struggles with keeping the strike zone consistent. But these inconsistencies pale when compared to the overwhelmingly inconsistent calls in the NBA. Ticky tacks get called and muggings go unnoticed. Palming, traveling, hooking, etc. are left unnoticed most of the time, but then get called for no other reason than the ref felt like it.

I don't know what the answer is, but it hurts the perception of the NBA a lot more than guys like Stern seem to realize.

Duncan is saying Crawford asked him if he wanted to fight. Just crazy stuff but if anybody heard it and confirms it I have to think crawford's career is over. You can't challenge an NBA player to a fight and eject him without losing your job. Just depends if anybody heard it and in what context?

Agreed - heard that on the radio as well. If true and verified, bye bye Joey.

Crawford was a postal worker before he got his NBA gig. Not kidding. IIRC, the NBA called him out 2002 for being such a hothead after giving Don Nelson a quick hook. I know he's been in anger management courses before, I just can't remember if he did it on his own volition. He's definitely got issues and he's probably been doing this too long.

Losing a tense, physical, emotional game to their top rival and being forced to settle for the third seed in the Western Conference was bad enough for Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs.

Even worse: Duncan is convinced referee Joey Crawford is out to get him, with a brawl possibly needed to settle things.

Crawford hit Duncan with 2 technical fouls just 1:16 apart late in the third quarter of San Antonio’s 91-86 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. The second came while he was laughing on the bench and meant an automatic ejection, just the second of his nine-year career.

“He looked at me and said, ‘Do you want to fight? Do you want to fight?’æ” Duncan said. “If he wants to fight, we can fight. I don’t have any problem with him, but we can do it if he wants to. I have no reason why in the middle of a game he would yell at me, ‘Do you want to fight?’æ”

....

“He came into the game with a personal vendetta against me,” said Duncan, who had 16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocks in his limited action. “It had to be because I didn’t do anything the entire game. I said three words to him and the three words were, ’I got fouled’ on a shot. … That’s all I said to him the entire game.”

Crawford disagreed, saying that “he was complaining the whole game.”

“And then he went over to the bench and he was over there doing the same stuff behind our back,” Crawford said. “I hit him with one (technical) and he kept going over there, and I look over there and he’s still complaining. So I threw him out.”

Crawford spoke to a pool reporter before Duncan spoke to the media. Asked about Duncan not thinking he deserved to be tossed, Crawford said: “That’s his opinion. He said nothing when he was walking off the court and he called me a piece of (expletive). Is that nothing?”

Or ...... depends if anybody heard this and confirms it:

<<When it was suggested that Duncan believed he had said nothing to deserve the ejection, Crawford said, "That's his opinion. He said nothing when he was walking off the court and he called me a piece of [blank]? Is that nothing?">>

That would seem out of character for Duncan but his exaggerated antics on the bench were also very uncharacteristic for him. I really doubt anyone told him a really hilarious joke just at the exact moment the call was made on the floor. The ABC gal who talked to him following the ejection also mentioned that he used a lot of choice language in his comments, not surprising except coming from TD to the media. This was a meaningful game and the Spurs had a lot riding on it, including HCA. As usual, they'd been working the refs hard from the tip-off and normally they get by with that.

I'm no JC fan -- far from it. The ejection may have been excessive and it will be even more controversial since it was Duncan, but if it sets the stage for playoff behavior it might serve a purpose. One thing that concerns me about a playoff series against the Spurs is their apparent influence on the officials, even though they feel they've "earned it."

Man I get it. He has been sick and tired of fielding pleas and questions from the Spurs everytime he call a foul. These guys probably get on his nerves. I get tired of watching these guys who think they have some leverage on the refs. It wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt EVERY foul. Go on wit your bad self Mr. Crawford. And thanks for takin a stand buddy.

Duncan cries when an eyelid drops into his soup. Dude is like my grandma (not: my gramma'a actually pretty tough). Bout time Timmy got T'd up. Hope the refs make a habbit of it. I've never seen such a whiny ******.

His whole team: oscar performers. What do the Spurs do in their spare time? ACTING CLASSES. Floppy's the only one with balls, but then he flops around injuring everyone, and that's not cool. ;(

OK but all that happened AFTER he was ejected from the game for laughing.

He probably did cuss out Crawford, but he says Crawford challenged him to a fight BEFORE he threw him out.

That's where it gets interesting, if anybody confirms that he'll be looking for a new job.

Oh I'm absolutely sure, no question in my mind, without even a glimmer of doubt, sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, that the entire Spurs bench and coaching staff -- probably even the towel boys -- will confirm it. ;)

I want Crawford officiating the 2nd round. :)
I would guess that after the stir this thing has created and the statements made by both men, that as a minimum the league has enough smarts not to assign Joey Crawford to another Spurs game this year. I would be surprised if he was.

I totally agree, even if the seeds are locked up these two teams are going to throw everything at each other and as a fan it excites you. This is what a rivalry is supposed to be, which is why I wouldn't be terribly disappointed in playing the Spurs in the WCF because we've already seen those series guarantee greatness... but I think Dallas is rooting for Phoenix since that seems to be a rivalry in the making and simply want to prove they are a better playoff team (coming up short the last two meetings). That is a series that would also probably guarantee greatness, so long as Housten/Utah somehow doesn't knock the Mavs off...

Yep, it was easy to read Timmah's lips:

That was just STUPID!! I've never seen anything like it. Tim was telling some nice stuff to Joey as he walked out "ef you. Hey. ef you. You piece of s." LOL.
