This is another one that I ask myself "WHY???" I really hope they do justice to the original. Gilliam is one of my ATF directors. My main hope on this is that it's ATV+ plus and they've seemed to do better with adaptions lately than the other streamers.

Hmm. I kind of feel like a modern refresh could be good for this property. It will obviously need to be written well and executed, but what good show doesn't? I'm not sure how many people even remember this cult classic, but I'm willing to give it a chance.

And like DMC says, Apple seems to have a pretty good crew for stuff like this.

Fingers crossed.

Anyone try it yet? I finished Cobra Kai last night so I might give it a go tonight. I'm going into this one a bit nervous after the trailer. I really hope that they can capture some of Gilliam's style with it.

I watched the first episode. I'll give it a couple more episodes but I'm really mixed on it after the first episode. It's mainly Kudrow that's not working for me although I'm not crazy over how they're portraying any of the time bandits. It's a bit too slapstick for me and she was playing it way over the top. I'm hoping that's just a e1 introducing the character thing and it'll settle down since I like what they're doing in a couple other parts of it.

I'm done with it. I mentioned in another thread that I was giving it to e6 and that didn't save it for me. It's too much slapstick/juvenile. I really can't stand Kudrow's delivery in it. It's not funny and pretty cringy. The whole tone of the time bandits (the team) is off. It's a shame because there's been some decent stuff outside of them.

To me this is the bad Taika Waititi writing where he goes too campy, I guess I'll call it that. It's in the same bucket as his Thor movie which fell flat for me vs his writing that love with titles like What We Do in the Shadows or JoJo Rabbit.

That's sad to hear. I'm a couple months away from starting my Apple TV+ up again and was looking forward to this.

Give it a try still. It might work for you. I'm just not a fan of the zany, slapstick style of humor in it. I'm more of a dry, British type of humor guy. It's just feeling forced and not natural in it.

Ok, I've been hard on this show so far but I try to be fair. The two episodes this week were pretty good. The story line moved along nicely in them and most of what had been bugging me about the show to toned down. If they continue down this path it could end up being solid. I'm wondering if it didn't test well in focus groups but they were far enough in that the first episodes were already locked and they couldn't tack until later in the season.
