It has to happen & I hope Michael has the gonads to NOT abort the mission before it’s complete.
Yep. Expect to see a lot more signings of 1 and 2 year low cost rental players as Monti gets the Cap in order and purges the mistakes of the past as quick as possible. The draft is where this team will be rebuilt.

Looks like they're signing depth type players that the FO & coaching staff have a history with. Monti with the DL with the Patriots, drafted him in the 4th round then followed him to the Titans. The OL played for Petzing in Cleveland, played some center & guard which may actually help if he's decent? Billy Price sucks.

Suns have got some old superstars you should sign.

I'm thinking more and more, it begins with the GM not the owner so there is hope Cardinals fans.

A full burn down is the only explanation. And I'm ok with that as long as that's the true, committed strategy.

Really sucks for Murray. Dude's career is done. His only hopes are resurrection elsewhere or baseball.

I’m ok with the fresh perspective that after years of bad deals and poor drafts it’s time to have a full reset. The next 2 years will be rough but will be worth it if it provides a long term philosophy that is sustainable for winning football.

The Cards are having cap problems? I must have misunderstood what all their available cap space really meant.

Not necessarily problems, but they don't have elite cap space to do things like the Patriots did in 2021.

And when the cops came thru

Me and Mike stood next to a burnt down house

With a can full of gas and a hand full of matches

And still weren't found out (Right here)

So from here on out, it's The Cardiac II

Starting today and tomorrow's anew

Prolly not next year but check again year two

Might be new but looking out for you

So this means we should get rid of Budda and Hollywood, right? Along with Conner and Ertz? And let McCoy and McSorely play out the entire season? If we are going to burn it all down, you can't go halfway.

Nope. You can’t get rid of everyone this season due to contract considerations.

You can’t start a rebuild unless and until Conner and Ertz are gone. Everything else is planting the seeds for future excuses.

Murphy and Allen would be peaking in 2024; Ertz and Conner will be on their way out of the league.

The Cards don’t have a real cap problem; they have a resource allocation problem centered on those two guys.

If anyone will trade for Conner and Ertz I'd do it. Get picks for them and let this year eat their dead money. Hollywood I'd shop and see what I can get for him. WR are weak this year and if catch someone desperate you might luck out. Other wise he plays the year and walks next year unless his ask is very reasonable, like < $15m per.

Budda is a tough one. I wouldn't want him to go but I'd probably shop him. As much for him as for the team. He's 27 and I really don't want to waste his peak years on this rebuild. Let him try to go win a championship.

You save virtually nothing by getting rid of them this year and would end up with $20M in dead money. They are not going anywhere this year.
Yess, but you free yourself from them forever after! That’s the point of a rebuild!

What are you saving money this year for? We’re not signing anyone of value. Eat the cap charge, save payroll, and have a clear field for 2024 and 2025.

You can replace 90% or more of Conners production at 10% of gods cost with pretty much any rookie running back.

You probably replace all of Ertz’s production with more snaps for McBride and there are fine veteran blocking TEs on the market if you want them.

The only obstacles to future cap space that won’t be peaking in 2024 and 2025 are Hop, Ertz, and Conner. Rebuilding isn’t (only) about passing on free agency; it’s about eating bad contracts when you have the chance.

Only Hop will have a marginal impact on our ability to win in 2023 and he’s the most likely to leave!

Nope that makes zero sense.

They are already paid and the Cards still need to field a team in 2023. Might as well run them into the ground in this lost season vs putting unnecessary mileage on a rookie RB or whatever. They can easily be cut next year with minimal effects on the cap vs cutting them this season where there is no cap relief.

Both free up next to no money which creating a bunch of dead cap and would get what in trade? A 6th and 7th? Maybe a 5th and 7th tops?

Together they would create about 3.3m in cap space while taking a $20m dead money hit. Would cost more than $3.3m to replace them both.

That's for this year. You also get them off the books for 2024. I'm looking to take as much pain in 2023 to clear the deck or 24 and beyond. $3.3m is more than enough to replace them with a couple scrubs that will help with the tankaton.

That isn't true at all. You just don't invest in those positions until after they are gone. You do realize there are 20 other starts on the team, right?

You can’t be about burning it all down if you’re for saving big moneyed salaried players staying here when cutting them now would truly level their effect on the team in 2024 when we’re starting to build back up. If this season doesn’t matter and we’re burning it all down, why push the pain forward where their salaries will continue to hurt the team next year instead of ripping off the band-aid this one? From a financial standpoint that makes no sense if we’ve truly only got an eye for the future.

But even from a competitive standpoint moving forward, it doesn’t make sense to keep them because they will be taking snaps from guys you should be hoping are young and developing so those young guys are ready to step up next season.
