I was criticized when I did not like the Dudley signing. It was and is not about him. He appears to be a great guy but I just don't see what he brings.

I wanted us to sign Amare to a one year deal. At least he would have been entertaining.

The only reason to sign Amare was to let him retire as a Sun. The Suns could use more of this type thinking. The same should have applied with Steve Nash.

TJ is averaging 14 on nearly 13 shots and his strength is supposedly scoring. Need to see significant improvement next year.

What? Why? No reason for that now.

It's a loyalty thing with the players and building a tradition, something the Suns lost long ago with the departure of Jerry Colangelo.

This is how you attract future stars.

He wasn't looking to retire at that time, he was hoping to have a significant role here. When we wanted him to play a significant role here, he kept finding reasons to go elsewhere. When he finally settled on us, it was the absence of power forwards on our roster and the fact that no one else wanted him that drove his change of heart. And remember, even after he announced his retirement, he jumped at the first chance to play ball.

That may have been true in the 90s, but no longer.

Players of today are very keen on "building their legacy" though so who knows. Playoff wins are not seemingly a necessity.

I don´t know about that. If that were true, LaMarcus Aldridge would be wearing a Suns uniform by now.

Maybe but the word all along was that SA was in the lead from the beginning because he wanted to be close to his child. And remember, it was the stated reason he was leaving Portland in the first place.

becuase the media is ignorant, truth is as we know right now that Phoenix was in the lead to sign Aldridge and he only changed to San Antonio at the last second and another desperate meeting with Pop.

Colangelo? loyal?

Really?
Absolutely. We had free agents sign for minimum contracts knowing that Colangelo would take care of them in the future. Danny Manning was a perfect example. Colangelo paid him in spite of big time injury. The whole Bird rights rule was because of Colangelo trading on his loyalty to players.

I think JCSunsfan pretty much nailed it with the Danny Manning signing. Also the Suns were able to attract A.C. Green as a free agent coming from the Lakers.

The timing never seemed right for Amare to return to the Suns except before he retired a Knick. He wanted to play for a playoff team if I remember correctly. I wonder if the Suns ever explored signing him to a minimum type contract before he went to play for Hapoel Jerusalem a team that he co-owns.

I think a team that builds a good reputation with the players still has a step-up on other teams all being equal.

Not exactly. It was what we did AFTER Manning that earned Jerry the rep throughout the league.

I don't know. What I remember is that rumors suggested we might bring him in for a retirement deal and then something came from Amare's camp suggesting he thought he'd be perfect to come fill the void in Phoenix. It had nothing to do with minimum contract or even minimal minutes, he thought he could resurrect his career here.

So we went a different way and after that Stat discovered there was no market for Amare the player but he'd already burned his bridges with us. I'm so glad we didn't sink low enough to bring him back. He was all about the money and then he was all about the glory, that's fine but it works both ways.

Maybe but it used to be a major factor. Now, though, Satan could buy a team and if he had the right players on it, he'd have no trouble bringing in all the christians and lions he wanted.

Either way, Jerry Colangelo had earned a solid reputation around the league with the players even before Manning or the signing would probably never had happened.

It didn't work for whatever reason with Stoudemire. My perspective, it would have been great for players like Nash, Marion and Stoudemire to retire as Suns. There were reasons why it didn't happen but I think the Suns should have made a greater effort to make it happen. Maybe I'm am viewing it as a matter of nostalgia.

Warren hasn't looked very good lately.

Also, in league which is all about 3pt shooting now from their wings, Warren still has nothing of a 3pt shot. Defenses are helping off him on Booker pick and rolls and when Booker finds the open Warren, he bricks the 3.

I love his cutting ability and everything but even that seems to be a struggle for him recently. But either way, you need either a 3pt shot or strong defense or both from your SF in today's NBA and Warren hasn't been able to provide either. I know he's due for an extension either this summer or next summer as well.

The thing with Warren, he appears injury prone which I believe has inhibited his progress. If I'm reading his stats correctly he missed 42 games in 2014-15, and 35 games in 2015-16. So far in 2016-17, he has missed 13 games.

However, his stats have been fairly consistent and his point production has increased each season. Plus he is only 23.

However, Warren is not as physical as I would like and his three point shooting doesn't help. I can't help but think Warren would be a better fit for a team like the Rockets with their running game.

It happens far more with Tucker. Warren has never been a good 3 point shooter but it wasn't bad enough to allow defenses to ignore him especially because, unlike Tucker, he was a threat to drive and score (Tucker is only a threat to drive and turn the ball over).

Something happened to Warren. And as far as I can tell no one not immediately connected to the team has a clue what it was. It happened a game or two before Warren went out and it led to a brief benching by Watson and then that month long "minor head injury" vacation. He hasn't been the same since but don't forget, he was clearly our best player up to that point of the season.

I think that's an unfair label. He broke his foot which can happen to anyone and then there's some mysterious injury/illness/whatever that cost him a month this season. But injury prone is usually reserved for that kind of guy who keeps getting nagging injuries and historically that has not been the case for TJ. Granted, his NBA career so far is a bit worrisome but he played 2 years in college without missing a game and I'm unaware of anything before that either.

I still believe we're going to find a completely different explanation for his recent absence than most people think. I hate to engage in wild speculation and that's all that's available right now but nothing about that went situation felt right. He had been playing great for us and then all of a sudden, he was no longer performing well.

The coach even took him out of a game and benched him for the rest of the contest and afterwards, it was clear Watson was disappointed in/by TJ. Then he sits for another game, maybe two, without explanation, before the news is finally released that he suffered a "minor head injury" and would be out for an undisclosed period of time which turned out to be almost a month.

Now, he's back but he's a shadow of his former self. He'd been playing good defense and very good offense and that just isn't the case anymore. And a 13 game absence doesn't explain this kind of return to work. Something strange happened and something strange is still going on. JMO.

I'm not trying label anyone anything but Warren has missed games due to multiple injuries in his brief NBA career such a reported broken thumb, a broken foot and a minor head injury. I was pointing out these injuries may have set him back from where I thought he would be. If I pointed out he appears to be frequently injured (the definition of injury prone) I don't see where this is wrong. Only time will tell if he is able to stand up to the physicality of the NBA.

Yeah but Tucker isn't out there for his offense. When Tucker's struggling offensively, he contributes defensively. When Warren is struggling offensively, that's it. He doesn't contribute to any other aspect of the game.

As for his mysterious absence, in today's world where secrets cannot really be kept and everything gets leaked out (especially in sports) because of social media and such, I don't think the Suns could keep some big secret away. I think he likely did suffer some kind of head injury.
