Owens Apologizes and Wants to Come Back

By ROB MAADDI, AP Sports Writer 21 minutes ago

A contrite Terrell Owens, hoping to overturn his dismissal from the Philadelphia Eagles, on Tuesday apologized to coach Andy Reid, quarterback Donovan McNabb, the team's owner and president, and fans.

"I fight for what I think is right. In doing so, I alienated a lot of my fans and my teammates," Owens said, reading a statement outside his house outside Philadelphia.

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Owens was making a public apology in hopes of returning to the Eagles immediately.

Owens on Monday was told by the team not to return this season. The decision resulted from "a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time, during which Terrell had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions," Reid said.

The All-Pro wide receiver didn't play in Sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games without pay. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate him for the rest of the season.

He was suspended Saturday, two days after he said the Eagles showed "a lack of class" for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch in a game on Oct. 23. In the same interview with ESPN.com on Thursday, Owens said the Eagles would be better off with Green Bay's Brett Favre at quarterback instead of McNabb.

Owens apologized specifically to Reid, McNabb, Eagles president Joe Banner, owner Jeffrey Lurie and to fans.

To McNabb, Owens said, "I apologize to him for any comments that may have been negative."

I hope they keep him but don't play him or pay him. Don't cut him now make him stay at home the rest of the season.

The worst damage was from the locker room fight - which he conveniently forgot to apologize for.

:violin: Actions speak louder than words T.O.

Stop putting You ahead of team, there is difference between being arrogant and selfish player and being disruptive and polarizing.

You cannot criticize your bosses and start fights with co-workers without expecting to be fired.

Welcome to the REAL WORLD T.O. Talent can only take you so far and its time you come back to earth.

Enjoy your humble pie and hopefully you can learn from this and start acting like a man instead of a 10 year old boy starving for attention.

Was he rolling his eyes while he was reading this? The tone of this is that of a little baby who wants his toy back and will try and tell you what you want to hear.

Supposedly they can suspend him the rest of the year because the way his contract was worded he's already breached it with his statements to ESPN, so 4 games was simply the amount they picked, they can extend that if they want to as far as I know.

Again if Philly takes him back they're crazy, we all know now the guy was faking the ankle injury, or at least exaggerating it to make a point, he proved right there he doesn't give a crap about the team.

I believe that after the 4 game suspension, without pay - they must either deactivate him with pay for the rest of the season, as was done with Keyshawn Johnson - or release him.

P.S. isn't there ecological laws in your country to cover the oil slick that Rosenhaus left in his wake at that newsconference?

Eagles have stated that Owens will be deactivated for the remainder of the season following the 4 game suspension.

Therein lies the problem, what you think is right is so wrong.

Idiot just doesn't get it.

FROM AP....

Owens is scheduled to earn $3.25 million this season, meaning the four-game suspension would cost him almost $800,000.

The Eagles will have to pay Owens nearly $1 million to stay home the final five games.

Owens will either be traded or released after the season. He is due to receive a $5 million roster bonus in March 2006, so the Eagles will decide his fate before then.

Yeah you're right my with no pay scenario isn't apparently possible under that. But the Eagles can get back 1.7 million that TO owes on his bonus because he breached the contract. Apparently they're just waiting for him to file a grievance over this.

T.O. or his agent?

For now it's a tie. The ultimate ass could be the guy who lets him come back, if that were to happen.

The worst part of this is that TO was my second round draft pick in my fantasy money league. What's even worse is my first pick was Daunte Culpepper. If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.

I hope the Eagles keep TO suspended for the year though. And hopefully after that they send him packing. I would love to see all the NFL teams get together and none of them sign him so he has to go sit at home and try to find a real job, or play in the arena league. Now that would be funny. I can just picture TO given his new boss some mouth when he's trying to get a dollar an hour raise and only gets a quarter. Now that would be hilarious. :D

According to all the reports here in PA, Owens is done as far as being an Eagle anymore. He will be suspended for the 4 games and then de-activated. He will get paid durng the de-activation time. After that the Eagles will probably release him no later than March since he would get a roster bonus if he is still on the roster. The Eagles are also looking to get back 1.7 mil in bonus money since Owens is in breach on contract.

Even though the Eagles will have to pay him they would still be ahead by getting the 1.7 mil back plus not having to pay him 800K during the suspension. So 2.5 mil minus the 1 mil in pay Owens will get still puts the Eagles 1.5 mil ahead. Not a bad deal considering all that has happened.

I doubt seriously that the Eagles will take him back. Andy Reid did say though that he cares about TO the man, not just the football player. I thought that was weird.

The fans don't want him back. I have not heard one single Eagles fan say that TO should stay and you can't swing a bat around here without hitting one.

I admire the Eagles organization for taking a stand on this.

BTW, did you hear about the pizza delivery guy who left the $5 tip that TO gave him on TO's doorstep because, as the delivery guy said "He needs it more than me right now."

My friend out here is from Western New Jersey/Philly. He wants him back and i told him he's an F'in moron. TO and his agent are trying to turn this around on the team by saying stuff like "I want to be with the eagles". He is trying to make the organization look bad still, that should make Eagles fans pissed.

Oh and Drew? If you are going to have a press conference how about you answer some questions. Next question. Next question.

It was hard to see an authentic appology, when he was reading a statement. I know it was for legal purposes, but he didn't have any trouble saying things that weren't on a paper before. I think that's why it seems un-genuine.
