Since 2019, every Veterans Day, I've done a workout called Chad. It's 1000 box step ups with a 45lbs vest or ruck. It's intended to bring awareness to the 22 Veterans that take their lives every day.

This day can be difficult for many Veterans. If you know one and they are quiet around Veterans Day, reach out and let them know you here for them. PTSD can come in many forms, such a survivors guilt, which is what I suffer from.

What Is CHAD1000X?
CHAD1000X is a CrossFit Hero workout written in honor of Navy SEAL Senior Chief Chad Wilkinson, who died by suicide on Oct. 29, 2018 as a result of several traumatic brain injuries, blast-wave injuries, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) stemming from many deployments across more than two decades of service. Chad is survived by his spouse, Sara, a former CrossFit Seminar Staff flowmaster, and children, Kinsley and Hudson; as well as countless other friends and family.

The CrossFit community joins together annually on Veteran’s Day in thousands of CrossFit affiliates and garage gyms around the world to tackle this workout in Chad’s memory, raising funds to support Veteran Mental Health Initiatives through The Step Up Foundation, an organization Sara founded in Chad’s honor to change the narrative concerning the number of veteran suicides by dramatically expanding awareness regarding the effects of blast wave injury, traumatic brain injuries, and post traumatic stress.

Unfortunately, this year I had to lower the box due to a torn calf, but I got it done!

I appreciate it, gang.

As a disabled vet in search of a new career years ago, I decided I wanted to help fellow disabled vets, specifically those dealing with trauma. My new career in social work then started, I eventually got into the VA and became a trauma therapist (amongst other things), and have worked my way up to become the mental health champion of the Pittsburgh VA. I get to do a job I absolutely love and get to give back to those who deserve our support so much. Can't ask for a better career than that :)

Instead of making a thread for it, I'll just post this in here.

We almost lost a very important film negative because of hurricane Helene:

The article came out last Thursday, but I think it was fitting that I read this on Veteran's Day as wife and I were waiting for my free veteran steak dinner.

Disaster strikes, but an iconic Tillman artifact narrowly survives

Of all the photos documenting the life of former Arizona Cardinals defensive back Pat Tillman, one stood out so vividly that it inspired a statue outside the team's stadium honoring Tillman after his 2004 death while serving with the Army Rangers in Afghanistan. Tillman's story has been told and retold, but rarely does the public get to know the story of photographers such as Gene Lower, who is responsible for that iconic image of Tillman celebrating a tackle 26 years ago.

A recent hurricane and devastating flood in Florida are just the latest, stunning turns for Lower, whose teenage son died last year. The flood wiped out most of his family's belongings, including nearly the entire archive of film negatives from Lower's early career. An extraordinary twist of fate, however, gave this story an uplifting trajectory.

Thats awesome. I didnt get a meal but I did get my free haircut at Great Clips :)

I have been cutting my own hair with my own clippers (buzzcut) since I was in the military. Only thing I've changed is the length of the guards here and there, lol.

Probably saved me thousands upon thousands of dollars.
