I got to go to the club event today. It was pretty amazing. The Cardinals are sparing no expense for their club level ticket members.
The food was all you can eat for free. There were at least 8 different food stations including a taco bar, steak nachos, carving station, green chile pot roast with potatoes and green beans, sliders, pizza, stuffed shells, and a huge dessert bar with stuff like cheesecake and fresh made ice cream.
For beer they had a giant craft beer station with beers from Two Brothers, Nimbus, Sleepy Dog, That Brewery, and other local beers. This was also free and all you can drink.
For cocktails you were given 2 drink coupons a piece.
After the giant lunch / beerfest, Keim and Micheal came up. They talked a lot about the upcoming season and how we are moving towards winning the SB.
Keim:
Keim talked about the recent deals they had made and how Michael was such a great owner for signing off on all these deals. He said this money will let them address more players. He couldn't say whom but he wasn't done extending guys.
He talked about how our weaknesses going into the off season was pass rush and depth in the secondary.
He RAVED about Brandon Williams. He basically talked about how far he has come and he is light years away what they thought he would be.
He mentioned Branch and his versatility and what an asset it will be.
He also mentioned DJ Humphries as having a great camp and being ready to step into that starting role.
Keim thinks Niklas is ready to be a real contributor.
Michael talked about All or Nothing. He confirmed that we are NOT the team for Season 2, but he "didn't know" who it would be.
He also asked that as Cardinals fans we don't sell our tickets to Seahawks fans this year, he is tired of hearing them cheer in our stadium. He then flipped it and said he would love us to take over the Rams stadium on Jan 1st since that game may be important. He really spoke about how well we are now travelling as a fan base.
Player guests were AQ Shipley and Nkemidiche. Michael had taken a question about replacing Shipley, so it had to be awkward for him to be one of the special guests.
Practice:
Tony Jefferson was just terrible in man to man coverage. Palmer routinely picked on him with great success. Jefferson did get some redemption at the end by picking off Palmer in Zone Coverage.
AQ Shipley was very up and down. He seems to hold his own against the run but then really struggle during pass coverage. I saw him give up a ton of pressure up the middle.
Palmer wasn't sharp and especially seemed flustered by interior pressure (given up by Shipley)
Evan Mathis looked great and sprung several runs.
Pass coverage was tight everywhere but Brandon Williams was really impressive. I have to think that is why Keim was so fired up after the practice. He guarded Fitz, Floyd, and JJ and never gave up a catch. Multiple times he was step for step with his man.
Jaron Brown had the catch of the day, outleaping 2 defenders for a TD from Stanton. He was consistently good.
If Floyd wasn't covered by Williams, he was open and making catches.
PP went for a pick while guarding Fitz and missed. Fitz nicely went out of bounds but in a game that is a huge gain.
Kerwynn Williams didn't run a lot but had some nice catches.
Fells had a big catch on a post route that would have been a TD.
Barkley is laser accurate within 10 yards but kept getting his passes broken up deeper. That tells me he doesn't have the arm strength to get the ball there before the defender does.
Fun day!
