That was a part of a four-team deal in which the Knicks got future first-round picks from Seattle and the Lakers, as well as a bunch of players. Just on picks, they actually came out ahead in the deal, and they didnt give up anybody they were going to miss. Due to salary cap considerations, the deal could not have happened without our participation; they had to send us a pick and cash in order to get the two other first-round picks and various players.
Perhaps not the greatest deal ever made, but not that bad for New York. As trades go, I can certainly think of worse ones for example, the one that brought the Aussie stiff to Phoenix in the first place.
Knicks: Acquired Glen Rice, Luc Longley, Travis Knight, Vernon Maxwell, Lazaro Borrell, Vladimir Stepania, two first-round picks and two second-round picks. Traded Patrick Ewing, Chris Dudley and a first-round pick.
It doesn't look too good to me. He a traded away an expiring contract (Chris Dudley) and the money to buy his contract out. They also traded a first-round draft pick. They received Glen Rice, who did not pan out in New York, Luc Longley (retired and was a waste case), Travis Knight (big salary, does nothing), Vernon Maxwell (did he can play?), Stepania (I don't remember him ever playing for New York), Borrell (did nothing for them), and a couple of first-round and second-round picks (obviously they did not too much for the New York Knicks either).
Doesn't sound like such a sweetheart deal to me.
