This bothers me a whole lot:

Why are people forced to like a certain player if they happen to play for the team they like? Do all Laker fans have to like Sasha Vujacic? Do all Suns have have to like Eric Piatkowski?

If Malik Rose or Mike Sweetney became Suns, would you be forced to admire Rose and Sweetney? It sure appears that way.

Example: Sean Marks. People think he is a God in Phoenix now that he is resigned and Steve Spin-Master Kerr said a few good things about him. The rest of the league is looking at you laughing at how you praise a Sean Marks. Face it. The man stinks and move on.

It's not only the Suns. Every single team does this and it is annoying. They take a player, say Johan Petro, and praise the name so much you'd think he is Jesus Christ of basketball. The bias in pro sports is pathetic. Why can't people seem to face the facts that there may actually be BAD players on your team?

And D'Antoni does the same too. He spins the tale on a player so much I thought they just signed Michael Jordan or something. He did this with Grant Hill and the rookie draft picks.

Bottom line, too many sports fans and coaches today are forced into liking a player and coming up with justifications that they like the player - all because he happens to play for the team they root or coach for.

There is no "i" in team. A team is a whole. You do not have to like certain players as long as you like the team as a whole.

With that said, I am counting my days until Shawn Marion exits the stage.

Did I ever tell you I like to eat Ignorant Fans for breakfast? It's my favorite cereal.

thats a cereal? thats disgusting.

No one thinks sean marks is god. In fact I haven't seen anyone on this board that even likes sean marks at all. Sorry for disputing one of your FACTS.

Now to the real subject of this post. You should be forced to like Shawn Marion if you really are a suns fan because of how GREAT he has been for this team. Keep mentioning all of his shortcomings, but all of the great things that he does cannot be ignored. That's a FACT.

That pretty much validates this thread....

I do not like Marion, I tolerate him. He is a Sun, and therefore I appreciate him. I do not ignore all of 'the great things he does'. Nor do I ignore his immaturity, pettiness and his desire to play elsewhere.

And, as far as I know, he has not retracted his toddler trade me routine...so, if you really 'like' shawn, be it forced or natural, do you honor his request ? I don't like Marion so I say screw him, dump his ass next yr unless a sa-weet offer comes in.

Most feel we are better with him than with out him, then again, we do not know what additions may come from his subtraction. But count on it...until BabyMatrix apologizes for his finger in the eye behavior, the FO is taking/making calls. He and all the ShawnFawners are lucky his contract makes him almost impossible to deal.

Another completely stupid thread, you're uncanny. No one is 'forced' to like anyone. Barbosa is probably my 'favorite' player to watch on the Suns, though he's certainly not their best player. I don't really care for Marcus Banks, though he's on the team, no one has forced me to like him. But you know what, I'm going to cheer for Banks and hope he does well. Why? Because it helps my team!

Furthermore, no one in Phoenix thinks Sean Marks is "a God", in fact, most of us laughed when Kerr/D'Antoni said he would be a big contributor this year.

$50 says Barbosa would not be one of your top favorites to watch if he played for............Bobcats, Kings, or Spurs.

that point is totally irrelevant to the point of being "forced to like a player". he may not like barbosa is he was on those teams because they would not be helping his team and there would probably be another guy in barbosa's shoes for him to watch instead. on top of that, did you ever think that the reason he might like barbosa is because he follows the suns and is more familiar with his game? i don't see any reason to believe he is forced to like barbosa.

No one forces you to 'like' a player....but rather some peer discouragement is applied when you try to assassinate them at every opportunity...as rebelrouser S+M44 does w/the Maytricks.

I don't care for Marion's behavior, but while he is in Purple, and remains focussed on the team's objective (and my 3 decade wish), he won't get much flack from me.

I do reserve the right to critique his play and actions,

for are we not men ?

Marions behavior? Marions shortcomings??

:biglaugh:

What about the Suns behavior constantly involving Marion in trade scenarios the last few years only to never be able to get a deal done.

Talking about Marions shortcomings as a player? What player in the league doesnt have a weakness?? Marion is FAR more versatile and well rounded than most players in the league!

So what Marion has whined a little bit. He less of a whiner than a few ppl on this board! Besides, Kobe whined and had "trade me" talk and some of you still want Kobe...a little double standard perhaps?

I don't get this thread, either. My favorite player is Nash, but I also think Tim Duncan is a great players and seems like a great person as well. That doesn't keep me from rooting for the Suns, though -- although it does keep me from rooting for a Duncan injury or suspension. I want to see the Suns win, but it's more important to me that they play and beat the best. But I don't see how any of this is related to being forced to like a player.

Of course I wouldn't. I'm a Suns fan, I watch 82 Suns games a year.....what is your 'point?' How many people's favorite team is Team A, but their favorite player is on Team B, thats just weird.

Sunsman44's threads and posts are making other discussion forums more attractive. I can't ever remember this board having a resident troll. The premise of this thread is completely fallacious. I've noticed a number of regular posters moving on. I hope this is not a sign of things to come. The freedom to post is one thing, however, the right to dominate a forum with arrogance and ignorance (apparently to alienate posters) is unforgiveable.

You're right. This forum is the best sports forum I have found. I just wouldn't want one person to hinder it's quality or alienate posters.
