So I really believe if the patriots value a rookie qb they are going to have to trade up. They are at 23. To move to 8 then they will have to give up a haul.

Dolphins take a tackle and want a qb at 8 and then we get their 2 firsts and other picks.

Also players from other teams can be traded to us as well.

hope everyone is doing fine with the virus. I live 100 yards from Coachella festival and my family is doing fine. Bike rides and hikes, Netflix movies. Cheers!

Maybe a team values a wide receiver. This thread is about trade downs not what if a guy falls.

Most realistic scenario is jets Or Raiders Moving up a few spots to Secure the WR before jax and the OT before Cleveland.

We move 3-4 spots down and Pick up a High 3rd

Do you have a surprise pick if we move back to the middle of the first round and pick up a second rounder? I'm going with Gross-Matos of PSU. Guessing that the team will go BPA in the first and Need (OL) in the second. Of course, I don't think it will happen, that we trade any further back than three or four spots. But fun to speculate.

Makes most sense as Cards could still get one of the players that are ranked high on their board.

Good player if they could get a pick that would have him still on the board. Some scouts even have him borderline first.

If we move down 5 or 6 spots I’m looking at Epenesa, Chaisson, Murray, Gross- Matos or Davidson.
I think Epenesa’s game may have trouble translating, but the I thought the same about Dupree.

I know its tough to compare players but is he better than Anthony Nelson? I don't see it right now.

I see #8 being a good spot for two scenarios:

1. LV at 12 wants a specific WR.
2. CLE or NYJ wants a specific OT.

Further, let’s assume the team moves back to 12 so LV can take Lamb.

I could see a team wanting Jeudy or CJ Henderson to jump ahead of SF at #13 (who IMO is a lock for a WR or a CB)

I actually think Epenesa will thrive as a 5 tech. Very strong, physically sound player. His opponents say he just manhandled you and his hands are constantly moving. Calais Campbell was similarly downgraded coming out because he wasnt a speed rusher.

Can we do that? I would think a pick in the top 10 would bring in a really good player through trade which normally comes with a good size contract. I haven’t looked into it as much but last I read we had about 20ish mil before signing Kennard, Campbell and Philips. Most likey I am probably wrong.

I love watching our team but the whole draft and salary cap side of things I don’t look into a whole lot. With whats going on I am now just getting into it.

Glad to see you and your fam are making the best of it. Stay safe.

This is probably almost the exact list of players I would be looking at as well.

I dont have the inside info like scouts, but I would consider Epenesa and Davidson first. When you watch tape of Derrick Brown, Davidson jumps out on tape. He is that classic tweeter that isnt suited for a 4-3, but should be a good 3-4 end.

Im not trading down more than #11 or #12 unless its a major haul...and even then then I'm really thinking about it. Hopefully this is our last time drafting in the top 10 for a very long time, so we need to grab a blue chipper if possible.

If we could trade down to #11 so the Jets can get their OT and pick up a 3rd and 4th then I'd do it.

If we could trade down to #12 so the Raiders can grab a WR and pick up a 2nd, Id do it.

at #11 or #12, we are still looking at Wills, Wirfs, Bechton, Thomas, Kinlaw, Lamb, Jeudy, or Ruggs

I don't see the Pats having the ammo to move up to #8. But Im going to get very convoluted here....

They would have to give us #23, all three of their 3rd rounders, and a 2nd next year....to make it work on the point chart.

We would then end up with #23, 72, 87, 98, 100...and that 2nd next year.

Since we don't really want to be adding 3 extra rookies this year, we use those 3rd rounder to trade up.

#72 + #100 is equal to #57..so we make that deal.

#87 + #98 is equal to #66 so we make that deal.

Draft-

#23 - Kenneth Murray
#57 - Laviska Shenault or Michael Pittman Jr
#66 - Clyde Edwards Hillaire

I might do that. But it's hard getting teams to move down out of the 2nd. You have to overpay.

I agree with this. Is seems around 12/13/14 or so, the low risk picks are gone and you are taking on way more risk.

example: Chaisson

Bucky Brooks said he could be Danielle Hunter or...........Barkavious Mingo.

just can’t have a swing and miss here.

First of all. It depends on how is there at #8. I consider Burrow, Tua, Chase Young and Okudah are locks. Simmons and/or Brown will be gone too. Herbert is most likely also gone as it looks like CIN, LAC and MIA are all in the market for a QB. The Giants are the Joker because they could go with OT, WR or one of the Auburn D-players.

That leaves:
- Possibly 1 of the Auburn D-players
- Minimum 3 of the 4 bluechip OTs
- Minimum 2 of the 3 bluechip WRs
- DL Kinlaw

Also remember that the 2nd tier in the draft is considered to be one of the best ever. So the quality of players usually drafted 8-18 overall will be available most likely through the 1st round.

I only think there are two ways a tradeback could happen.

As I already stated, most realistic scenario is to more back a few spots with the Jets or Raiders. They secure the WR or OT that they want and the Cardinals pick up a high 3rd (possible a with a 5th or 6th on top). I makes sense for those teams to secure the players that they want, between Simmons/Brown, a WR, a OT or Kinlaw. Cardinals pick up extra draft capital and can not pick a OT (One of the 4 will be there), Kinlaw or double down on a WR. The trick is that the Raiders and Jets come into this draft with more or less the same needs for OT, WR and DL. If that extra pick worth not getting the specific player you want? OR do you have them grated equally?

The other scenario is a top team going all in to secure a bluechip player and betting the draft to do it. This could happen if Herbert is there (NE), if one of the D-players are there (DAL, MIN, GB) or most likely to secure the #1 WR (PHI, GB, BAL). That will most likely cost swapping 1st, next years #1 and something between a 2nd and 5th depedding if it's #17 (DAL) or #30 (GB). They get that 1 player that they believe is the missing piece.
The Cardinals get a package of picks and can choose the 5th/6th OT, 1 of the top LBs or between the 2nd group of D-linemen (Blalock, Chaisson, Gross-Matos).

I would personally like to trade down, but as you trade down the risk of missing on a player that you want.
So trading down to #11 or #12 and get 1 of Willis, Wilfs or Thomas or Kinlaw. Great!
Trading further down, picking up a bundle of picks and get a Austin Jackson, one of the top LBs or DT Blacklock to replace Peters in time. Great!

They problem is if the value isn't there for the positions you need. Not sure if I'm willing to take that risk.
