Anyone want Chris Webber? If the Kings don't make a good showing in this year's playoffs, I think they'll try to move him.

One idea I came up with is (2004-05 salary in millions and end year of contract)

Phoenix gets
Chris Webber (17.5, 2008)
Doug Christie (7.1, 2006)

Sacramento gets
Shawn Marion (11.3, 2009)
Howard Eisley (6.4, 2006)

The Kings would probably cover SG with some combination of Stojakovic and Jackson. They could keep Divac and start him alongside Miller, which worked well for them.

The Suns would try a double-PF set of Webber/Stoudemire/Johnson/Christie/Someone. It would cost them $8 million of their cap space, but they'd still have enough to add a decent role player or two.

I don't really like the idea, but does anyone else? Are there any Webber scenarios that appeal to anyone? Not too many teams can take on his salary, so the Suns could probably get him if they wanted him.

This all assumes they strike out in the Bryant sweepstakes, of course. But with the Lakers rolling (can anyone honestly say they're surprised), it's looking less and less likely than Bryant will leave.

He is really, really expensive for player with a reputation for being injury prone: $17.5 million next year going up to $22 million in 2007-08. He is 31 years and already lost most of this season to injury.

I don't think Webber has played center on a regular basis since his rookie year. I'm not totally convinced he could make the transition, but would have to if he is playing with Amare. His out of date stats show him at 6'10" 245, which is only marginally taller than Dice.

I watched him play in the Kings game against the Mavs and he is still not 100%. We don't know if he will ever return to former effectiveness. It is one thing to gamble a couple million for a few years on a guy like Dice, but $75.5 million for four years on a recently injured Webber scares the bejeebers out of me.

I am extremely against getting webber.

The suns traded one of the top pg's in the league (who rarely misses a game) because he was going to be overpaid in the later years of his contract. They shouldn't replace him with an injury prone PF, when we already have a budding star at the position, and that player makes like 18 million.

I think Webber will be in the same situation as Iverson this summer. Both teams will look to move them, but will have an extremely hard time getting close to their value. They both have huge extensions that run till near the end of the decade, both are breaking down, and both have off court issues.

A lot of teams would love the talent, but not at their salary, or the expense of their future. Especially with the CBA being reworked, and most likely a large shortening of guaranteed contracts, only a fool would take on deal like that for anyone less than a top 5 talent.

Webber is too soft--we don't need another player afraid of contact. And overpaid to boot. Both Christie and Webber don't fit in our "youth movement" either.

Doug Christies wife is like Joumana part II

They are crazy creepy...they get re-married on the same day every year. Christie doesn't go out with anyone on the team unless his wife is with him. She is the only wife that travels to every game on the team plane...just wierd

Before we had Amare I would have tried to get Webber in a second.

Now, with our current roster, the age and salary of Webber, and the injury issue, NO, NO, and He!! NO.

Although Christie's wife is somewhat strange, I wouldnt classify her in the same category as Joumana. Christie's wife was a sports writer before she met Doug. She seen all the groupies and what goes on behind the scenes. She didn't even wanna marry an athlete. But they fell in love and she said the only way she will marry him is she can be with him at all times to be assured he wouldnt do that groupie love thing. Strange? Yes. But he aggreed to the arrangement.

I don't like Weber for his contract though I'm in favor of moving Marion for better-tradable assets. If we don't get Kobe, I hope we could trade Marion + our #1 pick + Jake to Boston for Pierce. Ja, I know slin would hate that. :D

Actually, now we are speculating, the best scenario is the following. We do the above trade to get Pierce. Then, we do a sign-and-trade to get Kirilenko, say 8 mil a year 7 years deal, for Pierce. Then sign Kobe. And Dice for 1 mil before that. Our lineup:

Dice(White) /Amare/AK47/Kobe/JJ

on bench: Lampe, White(Dice), Zarko, CJ, Leandro, Eisley.

If Amare improves on his defense over the summer, the defense of that starting lineup would be the most suffocating in NBA history.

Marion right now is better and younger than Webber. The biggest complaint about Marion right now is bad shot selection and frankly Chris Webber is MUCH worse than Marion at poor shot selection.

The Suns need another guard, a center (or Lampe to keep developing), and a better bench. Marion, JJ, and Stoudemire are not the problems.

Webber has looked so bad recently that it's hard to imagine anybody wanting to trade for him. Of course, if he does come back to his previous level of play, he's worth a heck of a lot more to the Kings than he would be to the Suns, so either way, I can't see Webber in a Suns uniform.

If you're looking for injury-prone veterans for the Suns to target, how about Vince Carter? The guy is probably going to be available soon, and Suns could offer the Raptors something like the Marbury trade in reverse--cap room and prospects, and maybe switch spots in the draft.

They're sick of VC in Toronto because he doesn't have the personality to be a #1 option and he misses 20 games a year, but the Suns don't need a #1 guy, and KJ was a similar injury case, so maybe the Phx fans would be more understanding.

VC would give the Suns everything the Kobe-lovers say they need, but unlike His Airness Jr., he's already signed to a long-term contract, and he might even be willing to defer to Amare. IIRC Carter is the same age as Shawn Marion, so he fits in with the Suns' youth movement...

As a "Kobe-lover", I wouldn't mind Vince Carter, but the problem is that both Kobe and Vince would command the same money. For that amount, I think Kobe is more worth it.

One of the recurring themes in all trade discussions is that everything depends on clearing up the Kobe situation first. I don't really think that Vince Carter would be a good aquisiton, but that is not because I see it as a choice between Kobe and VC.

Let me guess--you think Kobe is "more worth it" than Chris Webber, too, right?

Actually Kobe might be, at least to the Suns.

At this point there is no assurance that Webber is going to fully recover from his injuries. He has not returned to full strength yet. In a way the situation is similiar that of Dice, except the Dice does not be taking on a huge contract like Webber represents (four more years including $17.5 million next season).

Absolutely! You mean to say you think Chris Webber is worth more than Kobe?? You must not really pay much attention to basketball if that's the case.

Couldn't agree more, Chap. At this point Kobe Bryant is twice the player Chris Webber is. They both have injury problems, but Webber's is a knee problem which scares me a lot more. He's also 7-8 years older than Kobe Bryant.

Twice? I think you are underestimating Kobe.

Webber is old and he missed a whole year almost because of a SERIOUS knee injury.
The same surgery Penny had I think.
