I'm not sure if the Suns have any more first round picks to trade right now. If I recall correctly, NBA teams cannot trade their first round picks in consecutive years or something to that effect.

They could do the whole player to be named later and then draft the guy the other team wants and then trade his rights over.

This is usually done on draft day immediately after the pick. I'm not sure if it could be done in the manner you describe. I just think it might violate the rules.

I like Marion for Tim Thomas, Corey Magette and Aaron Williams. I understand that the talent doesn't totally match up, but their uses really do.

Williams is no better than Skinner, and D'Antoni would never start Thomas over Diaw. I think Thomas is a lost cause as far as the Suns are concerned. He worked out well, but D'Antoni hates him.

If the Suns were desperate to move Marion they could do Maggette and Cassell. I guess Williams could be thrown in too. The problem is that they would have a gaping hole in the front court, since Marion is a big in Phoenix and Maggette couldn't fill that role.

I think Maggette would be a nice fit in Phoenix. Wasn't Maggette and Marion drafted the same year? I think many fans liked Maggette more than Marion before the draft. Tim Thomas would be a nice bonus. Maybe D'Antoni can learn to like him as the Suns fans really appreciated him... at least I did.

Maybe we should go after camby, the nuggets are probably still desperate to shed payroll, I would bet we might end up at 71-72 million taking money off their hands but we would be a much better team.

*edit: Well when I look at their salaries it is mostly tied up in few players, so the nuggets would have to give up a lot of players just to give more salary then they get, probably can't happen.

It really is the only scenario that would at least equalize or make us better, the nuggets did great against duncan in the playoffs. Now you could say duncan averaged 20 against denver but considering against KT he put up almost 27, holding duncan to 20 is what actually constitutes great and even duncan said as much when he said denver played him hardest and not the suns.

As far as salaries though it is a nightmare, we might have to swing a 3 team deal. If Denver can shed 3-4 million in a 3 team deal they will definately want to do it.

he did just come off some pretty serious ankle issues which hampered him for most of last season though.

There are only two trades worth discussing IMO: Odom and Cook or Kirilenko and Brewer.

Of the two, I'd prefer AK and Brewer, even though it would punch Alando Tucker's ticket without giving him any opportunity at all...

Josh Smith? He is a guy who would fit in perfectly in the Suns system, and would be like a more offensively talented version of Kirilenko. I would imagine we would have to take some salary back, and maybe give Atlanta back the pick, but at 22 you really can't go wrong with someone of his talent.

While that would be the most awesome trade in Suns history, why the hell would SEA trade Wilcox/West for Swift/Stoudamire/picks? Please do your best to rationalize this because I cna't see any reason for them to do this no matter how hard I rack my brain. Are Stoudamire and Swift in the last year of their contracts? Does SEA need salary relief?

Besides, isn't Swift purely a C? SEA already has Petro-Swift-Collison-Thomas-Sene to rotate at the 5, so why would they need another 5?

Because it's more money off the books next year. They save the money on resigning West, lose the salary of Swift and again get 2 more picks for next year. After this trade they would have 3 first round picks (thier own, the Suns from Thomas trade and Memphis from this trade) and 2 2nd round picks (their own and the Suns) next year.

Josh Smith appeals a lot to me but it would take a lot more salary to balance the trade.

Another trade I like is Shawn (assuming trading him is unavoidable) for Caron Butler + Etan Thomas - they make close to 14 mil between them so its in the ballpark. Etan seems to have worn out his welcome in Washington so they'd probably like that part of the deal. Caron runs the floor well and is a good rebounder for a SF, plus he is a team player. I think he'd be able to handle some minutes at PF on the Suns - he's quite strong. Etan would give us some serious muscle on the boards and he's a surprisingly good shot blocker.

Caron Butler is one of the shortest SFs in the league, and is probably less versatile than James Jones.

Unless you want Boris Diaw on the floor 40 minutes a night, you're better off moving Shawn for a PF.

How is Butler the shortest small forward in the league? He is the typical size of every small forward: 6-7, 230lbs, long arms.

And how is he less versatile than James Jones? Jones could only spot-up shoot - at best - with a little defense. Butler plays both small and shooting, has a killer jumper, a fantastic inside game, and very very athletic. He is not as stiff as James Jones and it is amazing that you say James Jones is probably more versatile. And did I mention Butler averages a whole lotta steals and rebounds?

Suns' Alando Tucker, meanwhile, may be the winner of the shortest small forward award.

i tend to agree though nba.com has him listed as 6'7. either way he is long. athletic, and a great all around player. i'd love to have him here, though his stats look a lot like marion's. im not all that familiar with his defensive game but he does get a few steals per game so...

He cant play the 4 so we have no use for him. We don't need a 3 as the main piece for Marion since we have Hill and if Hill got injured we would probably be confident enough to run with Nash, Barbosa and Bell.
