Now I like yer thinking! That would be worth any prospect the Yankees have on their team. It would be like Babe Ruth all over again.

Today's 3PM (Arizona Time) SportsCenter had an interesting quote by Cashman of the Yankees on acquiring Johnson -- "Im not optimistic."

Im definately glad to hear that. If he's to be traded, we better get some great value back in return. Value they dont have.

Cashman is never optimistic until the ink is dry.

So the Yankees give up Contreras, and get Johnson? Plus this means we get Contreras-sized prospects, instead of most-dominant-playoff-pitcher-in-the-game worthy prospects, as thats all the third team is getting. What a joke.

It would be prospects from the Yankees plus whatever prospects were traded by the 3rd team to get Contreras. Sorry, if I didn't make that clear enough

Big Unit to LA makes sense

According to Mark Gonzalez, Giants scouts were scouting RJ at his last start.

Also a report from Fox Sports said that somebody that wants Finley bad is the Dodgers. Alledgedly offering up a pitching prospect, a catching prospect from AAA, and a PTBNL. Good news considering what came out today about Fins not wanting to play on the East Coast.

Arizona might deal Johnson during off-season

Although Randy Johnson has asked the Arizona Diamondbacks to decide his fate by Wednesday, the team might decide to wait until after the season to trade the prized left-hander, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

The newspaper reported the D-Backs might essentially delay dealing the Big Unit because there seems to be a stronger possibility of the list of "trade partners" being longer and "trade targets" becoming deeper.

As for Johnson, he has reportedly set Wednesday as his own artificial trade deadline because he would like to know where he will be pitching this weekend. Club officials have reportedly told Johnson they will try to honor his request. But as the Star-Ledger points out, they are under no obligation to do so considering the official deadline doesn't arrive until Saturday.

However, the 6-foot-10 lefty told Sports Illustrated in this week's edition that he might be done playing when the youthful D-Backs become a winning team again. What's more, Johnson also reportedly told the magazine he might not pitch after next season — and he wants to win. That is why the Yankees are his top choice. But overall, the Yankees' farm system is thin as far as Major League-ready talent is concerned. So, can you blame the D-Backs if they elect to pay the remainder of Johnson's salary of $16 million this season and gamble they can get more this winter than what the Bronx Bombers can offer right now?

Cubs Red Sox talking deal with Chicago media outlets reporting it will be Nomar Garciaparra to CHC for Matt Clement, Sergio Mitre (minor league P) and Alex Gonzalez. No huge loss for the Cubs although Clement has had a helluva year but gotten no run support whatsoever. Clement is a FA at years end and likely would have gone unsigned.

I also read that Boston might have a deal in place with the Pads in which the principles are Derek Lowe for Brain Lawrence and Jay Payton. Obviously Boston would also have to throw in a prospect.
