Even though a straight up trade for the 49ers #6 & #22 grades out at 2380 value vs. the Texan's 3000 for #1 do you do this trade if you are Houston? They save money in signing bonus and spread their risk over two players and they get two guys that can probably start (given the depth of the draft & the breadth of their needs).

I think this would be a stupid move for SF given their needs but doing the Denver trade proves that they are capable of stupid.

On a side note, if this trade were to happen does Vernon Davis slide to 10?

Not going to happen, the trade value is too far apart, san fran would probably have to deal a second rounder as well (which they don't have anymore right?). Also, I'm not entirely convinced they take Davis at 6. They have so many holes to fill, they may go in a different direction.

SF can and will add next years 2nd round and the deal WILL be done. The points are perfect.

with the 1st pick in the draft the SF idiots pick Reggie Bush.

The core of the 2001 trade between the Chargers & Falcons sent a #1(3000) in exchange for a #5 & a #32 (2290). Later round pick swaps, picks from next years draft and players can always be used to make it work if the team looking to trade out of #1 wants it bad enough.

Yeah, they'll lose 10 or more this year, if they do that.

But heaven help us if they can ever build a team around him. We better hope that they stay down until reggie gets some miles on him.

Who is the better team now?

Oh yeah, the Cards really ripped through the league last year with a 5-11 record.

We're 2-2 over the last two years. The Cards may have a slight edge over the Niners, but that's only because the 49ers had to blow up our team and begin the rebuilding process after the Mariucci era that saw us make the playoffs a few times and have multiple pro bowl players. The Cards have been perpetual bottom dwellers since after their playoff victory against the Cowboys.

I got nothing against the Cards. Having grown up in Phoenix for part of my life I have a great appreciation for them. If they weren't division rivals with my team they'd probably be my 2nd favorite team.

don't get too ruffled SactownSunsFan, The boobs here are just creaming their panties with fantasies about a perceived folly in SF. Everything I have read about the trade with Denver has been positive except for here where the draft geniuses seem to have all the answers via a crystal ball. The cards I would bet lead the league in 1st round draft busts.

Oh and who is better now? when you can place a super bowl trophy for AZ in your sig you will impress with "Who is better now". That reminds me Cardinal fans an 49er fans have one thins in common; we don't know how it feels for our teams to loose a super bowl.

Well the fact that you used the #1 overall pick to take Alex Smith, who would at best be a late 1st rounder speaks volumes about where you're heading. There is nothing in the world that says you have to take a QB because you can't trade out of the #1 spot. You would have been better off with Cadillac Williams, Shawnee Merriman or DeMarcus Ware. Especially knowing that Leinart would be out this year. Now you still have a question mark at QB and you're paying top dollar for it.

I feel the same way about the trade. While the 2nd and 3rd round pick might have yeilded us some quality starters, the # 6 and #22 pick could yield us, or at least have a better chance of yielding us, a potential superstar. A lot of the mock drafts have us getting V. Davis at # 6 and Manny Lawson at # 22. While Lawson is raw, many experts feel he has potential superstar ability and could have one of the highest upsides of any player in the draft. The Niners have some potentially solid starters, now what they need are some potential superstars. This is what the trade gives us.

I'm opposed to trading the # 6 and # 22 to get Bush. Historically there have been some outstanding RB's in the league that haven't done squat in terms of team records because the talent level around them is horrendous. I believe if you've got a stacked team, a RB could be your most dangerous weapon (i.e. Marshall Faulk), but if your team's talent level is bad, a talented RB is pretty much worhtless (i.e. Barry sanders).

I'm not sold on Leinart and many NFL experts aren't either. It's my hope that Smith's intelligence can keep him level headed and that he won't implode like Ryan Leaf or Tim Couch.

It's nice to see that you you didn't try coming back to sell us that he will be the next Montana. I would like to know how you guys feel about the shape of your defense. My opinion is it stunk last year and only got worse in the offseason.

Frankly, I believe it was because our offense was so horrible (historically the worst offense of all-time, if I remember right) that it caused our defense to suffer. If you look at the time of possesion, you'll see that our defense was on the field for a ridiculous amount of time. With a decent offense, I think our defense could've been in the middle of the pack in the league.

I think the loss of JP and Carter will hurt us short term, but they really aren't fit for the 3-4 scheme, and Andre Carter is way overrated as it is anway.

The contract he got from the Redskins is going to end up biting the 'skins in the butt. He's a solid starter, but he certainly isn't worth the contract he got from the skins.

Well you guys better hope someone gets Vernon Davis before us or you're going to see just how pourous your defense can be.

Exactly why i think we do go offense with our first pick. Not only does would VD help to give our defense a rest, but it validates Smith as the number 1 pick of last year's draft. What's the point of drafting a QB # 1 if you don't give him the necesary weapons he needs to succeed???
