How horrible can this trade be? no ona here ever stood up for or liked knight? I was one of 2 people here that thought knight was a good back up, Now he's gone and we get a big banger down low that everyone was complaining about that we needed? will he bring us a championship? No! but he will be a stop gap and help out an area we need to address this season, if he never plays then I'll agree with you.until then it's not that bad of a trade.
If you don't like it because of the previous trade then just say so! but don't say this trade is horrible.

It's the almost $6 million that the Suns will have to pay him next season that is the problem.

Exactly. This trade is basically ensuring this is our roster through the end of the 2004/2005 season unless we make another trade. I can almost guarantee we will not use our MLE now.

Had it been Tony Battie, I would have liked it. Had it been Dampier, even with us tossing a pick or 2 in, I would have liked it.

With it being a 6'9, 290 pound blub pretending to be a center, who has done nothing in his 6 year career on a bad team, in a bad conference against even worse competition at his position is what I have a problem with.

And I do think that the offense must be the worst coached in the entire league. As others have eloquently said, it is all based on one-on-one play.

Okay guys...

Jahidi white, one guy who can make a difference in the ONE area that beats us every year. SIZE.

He can combat shaq and duncan effectively

Is he defender of year..no

But the guy will do some SERIOUS good here.

We have 3 of the top 15 guys in the league roughly. Right.

And they don't include the people we are paying top 10 in the league googs and penny.

Think if we had webber and garnett..................with the money we spent and had marbury, marion, stoudamire. That's what we are paying for and not getting....at its peak

SO the peak didn't happen, googs got injured as did hardaway, so mcdyess bolted (thankfully now I guess)....

I love the cards, but we have an owner who has missed TWO, yes TWO playoffs since 1987??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Give the braintrust a break.
We have been the best run franchised in terms of making decisions when we've had to except for maybe the Yankees. But the Yankees could AFFORD to make up for their mistakes, not the SUNS. We have marbury 26, marion 24-25, amare 20-almost 21, chabarkaba, and barbosa (22,20).....now jahidi.

We have one thing in common with the clippers.....we're young.

We have one thing in common with the lakers.....wer're good.

When can the previous statements been said???????????????????????????????? RARELY

A team can have four guys outrunning and outhustling and outathletically performing their opponents on the floor.....we have this....but if you can't stop whats in the middle it hurts BIG TIME...jahidi white ain't 'zo in his prime, but he is a GREAT addition which addresses that area, and is the best QUICK fix I've seen in years. In fact, its blasphemous to say he is a "Quick" fix.

Our team just gained six more wins this year, and thats six more hard fought wins against good teams, not 6 more wins against the clips, jazz, bulls, etx.

I think Jerry and Brian get a bad rap as well (Especially from the perpetually whiney people who think franchise centers like Shaq are available by the bushel.) However, this was a bad, panic move in every way possible. And worse, it makes the last cap clearing move irrelevant. The ONLY justification for the Bo/Jake move was to clear salary. This move absolutely, without a doubt, is an admission that the previous trade was a bad move ... or at least premature.

I'm willing to bet White will give them next to nothing, and next summer people will be whining once again that the Suns won’t use their MLE on a big man. This year they had an excuse. Next year they won’t.

my god you people are more negative than those of labelled "darksiders" on the cards board.

"they traded our bigs for a pg!"

"they traded our expiring contract for a big!"

WAAAAAAAAAAA!
no, jahidi is not a great bigman. no, he's not even as good as battie. we have NO idea if we could have pried battie away from boston. nor do we know what the cost could have been.

i think you have all overvalued knight's expiring contract and underestimate the colangeli's moves. yes, they've made some bad fa signings, but, for the most part, they've looked REAL good in making trades.

look at it this way, early in the season they've recognized that this team has a deficiency . . . size. they probably called every team in the league with a potentially tradable bigman (like there are a lot of those - yeah, teams are clamoring to get rid of adequate bigmen - sheesh). this is not some knee-jerk reaction. the colangeli are much more savvy than that.

jahidi is not being brought in to provide offense so his hands of stone (which is totally accurate - even back to his collegiate days) won't hurt overly much. he's being brought in to be a mass in the paint, block shots, and play defense. he's solid in those areas. in fact, he's a better shot blocker than anyone on our roster, and better than big jake or bo were. is he a stud center? hell no. can he help at a position at which we desperately need help? yes. is he better than bo or suckalidis? yes.

stop your whining and see what he can do. in fact, if you want to whine about something, how about the fact that "talented" team is just flat out playing like crap. marbury being outplayed by arroyo? embarrassing.

I'll tell you why I like this trade. Granted, it's not great, but it accomplished something.

First off, whether it's bull as their primary reason or not, trading Bo gave Zarko more minutes. Remember. Young team. We aren't gonna win it all this year, but developing Zarko will help us in the long run.

Secondly, we were undermanned up front and we're doing fine in the backcourt. Regardless of whether we could have gotten something better, we have a big guy now. Sure, he's like a 6'2" big guy(or something like it), but he's a big guy.

Terrible trade. The whole point of trading Tsakalidis and Outlaw was to use the MLE next year, and it doesn't look like that's going to happen. (Unless the C's suddenly realize they have to spend money to win.)

I guess another good thing about the trade is that Googs will get less minutes. woo hoo!

That was your take on the reason for the Tsak trade. I never heard Suns brass say anything about using the MLE (though they did mention "flexibility").

Foyle just had knee surgury, so he is out.

I'm not sure we would have picked up a player any better with the MLE, and its possible we wouldn't have used it at all.

At this point, I'll take the size and not worry too much about what I hoped the team would do 9 months from now.

Well, for now, White will undoubtedly be compared to Big Jake, to see if we are better off now than we were.

Big Jake was a fan favorite, so White has some hard work ahead of him. But looking back, in a realistic basketball mindset, Big Jake didn't do much for us at all. He was a big body and could defend Shaq. But how well? Shaq still got a ton of points, and Jake's presence in the paint mattered, but did it matter enough to change the complexion of games? I don't think it did. I liked Jake, but he had been here too long without showing us much of anything. Is White the competent replacement? Good question. We'll have to see how he does with this team, who needs a lot of help right now.

You are right, that was my interpretation of the trade.
I think White will help, he is a big guy, he is very strong, he rebounds when he gets minutes, he'll take away minutes from Googs as Chap already pointed out. I am just dissapointed that we lost the "flexibility" to perhaps sign somebody next year.

I agree. Even though I'm not a fan of this trade at this time I do know that Big Jake was not a good center. He is slow, unathletic, and he probably has the worst hands in the NBA. He really only had one good game against Shaquille O'Neal.

I'm willing to give White a chance. I guess I'm just frustrated because I think they should have been able to do better. I guess White was a hotter commodity than I thought..

And no, I don't think for a second that Washington would have traded White straight across for Bo Outlaw.

Big Jake was a fan favorite? Maybe for goofiness factor. but most certainly not for his basketball skill. I agree with you there. Bo was a fan favorite. Seems like most but the darkest of hangers on are over it.

Lets see what White can do, but as someone else stated above, we all should be more concerned about the overall play of the team. We look like crap so far this season.

You seriously don't think that Jake was a fan favorite? I never said that Bo wasn't, but Jake definitely was--probably more so because of a) the circumstances of his coming to the Suns, and b) the fact that he was big and taller than 7 feet.

Maybe even Colangelo felt in this way and he thought that he has to do something.

I'm just trying to find at least one legit reason why Suns had to give an expiring contract for an overpaid, injury prone C who does not fit to Suns' style (they said, it's not my point).

I bash the C's all the time for their love affair with small ball and former guards who pretend to be coaches, but I do think that they make good trades even if we don't understand them. Perhaps they see something in White that we don't.

He never really got a chance with the Wizzards. I remember that he had one decent season when he actually got some minutes. I am going to give him a chance, he is a big guy, he is tough, he picks up offensive boards and slams the ball back in. We'll see how it goes.

In order to have the run & gun style that the Suns are talking about, they need to get more rebounds. Once that starts happening, people need to take off. This also includes people who know how to do outlet passes. I'm not sure, but this might be a reason why they brought in White. He certanly does not need to be sprinting down the court on offense if he can pull down some boards and throw the outlet pass.

Anyone else see the holloween skit last season when Bo and Jake put on dresses?

Jake in a dress reminded me so much of "goon"

Oh, just for the record, "goon" was what my friends and I called Daniel Santiago.

White is 6'9" 290 lbws. What makes anyone believe he'll play?

Alton Ford was 6'9" 280 lbs - how many minuets did he get?

Big Jake may not have been much good, but I still remember the games at the end of 01-02 season when he looked good and everyone was excited about his possibilities - how many minuets did he get after his back injury?

Trybanski is a shot bolcking fool - What's his reward? He gets ridiculed by the coach and sits on the bench.

Zarko WAS getting a little PT but how many minuets di he get last night?

For those who believe Googs will get less minuets, check out who White will go in the game for...... I'll bet IF he goes in, he will be replacing Jake or Amare.

Barbosa's warming the bench - We need somone who can score and he can do that. How does this "little" guy fit into my point?

OK, here's my point...along with some others on this board, I say it's obivious - FJ has no idea how to coach - PERIOD.

What is this Alton Ford comparison? That's ridiculous. Alton Ford was a big body, but he wasn't very skilled. Jahidi White has proven that he has some skills. There's a big difference.
