If LAC are seriously interested in Paul, they will have to trade for him because the LAL can offer him more and playing with his buddy Lebron makes them the favorites should Paul get waived. Powell will be 31 next year and has three years left on his deal at nearly $20M a year while Paul is essentially an expiring contract so it helps them with their cap situation and they still have Mann & Hyland.

BOS doesn't take on that much in additional salary (around $3M) and actually gets younger with Ayton. Ayton's deal is for 3 more years, Smart has 3 years left on his and Williams has 3 as well so BOS isn't taking on any longer term contracts than they already do. Their cap situation depends on what they do with Jaylen Brown and his upcoming contract which will be huge because he made an All NBA Team. Plus, BOS is paying nearly $60M a year for 3 PGs, they need to balance out their cap to other positions.

Thinking about it, I was wrong about Shamet for Wright swap. Wright is not the player he was with TOR, Shamet has more value that a 31 back up PG who wouldn't be an upgrade over Payne. Shamet would provide a young shooter off the bench which could be of value for any team. I wouldn't be opposed to keeping Shamet especially if they can't find a replacement shooter to fill out the bench with. I don't think PHX is bringing back Ross or Warren.
If the Clippers want Paul, they are going to offer mostly crap.

Best offer would probably be like Marcus Morris and Batum, they aren't going to give up a player who due to their injury issues is usually their 2nd best for another super injury prone 39 year old Chris Paul.

If the Clippers are going to offer a garbage package for Paul or Ayton, I'd minimally want Zubac or Hyland, otherwise they can keep it.

I would likely also decline. Personally I think I am in favor of waiving and stretching. If we are really as much of a destination as advertised we should be able to get a better player than CP3 with the mid level exception.

I saw a podcast where they said we had an outside chance at Straus. Almost turned the podcast off right there. "I like dreaming, cause dreaming can make you mine...." Yeah, right.

Strus was so up and down, might as well be Shamet.

The latest trade rumors involve trading Chris Paul for Malcolm Brogdon or John Collins.

These rumors drive me a bit crazy because they really don't seem to provide the details on why or how the trade would happen.

They don't know the filler it would take until a deal is done. Like the KD trade, no one knew we'd get Warren with KD for example. So really they can't speculate much outside of what teams are interested and what they may offer. The rest is never included because it's way down the list of important details.

Everyone is just matching up teams who have players they want / need to get rid of.

In regard to the Brogdon or Collins trade rumors, the Suns really don't have any assets to attach to make these trades attractive other than 2nd round picks.

It's more about do the two teams involved want to make the trade strictly based on merit or it's a matter where a team can use the trade to lose unwanted longer term salary by using Chris Paul's expiring contract.

I’d love John Collins having a real PF would be nice

Brogdon has been hurt for 10 years straight it seems.

John Collins career trend is alarming.
Yeah, it is. I liked him coming out of college but he's been mostly disappointing in the NBA. We could trade for him and hope that it was Trae Young and inconsistent coaching that's stifled him but I have no idea how that would play out for us.

The players on the trading block all have warts, that's why their teams want to trade them. With the exception of Murray who I don't believe is on the trade block because of his next contract. I think ATL wants to keep him and Young and are hoping a team will take Collins and / or Capela to free up cap space for Murray and playing time for Okongwu.

I think SA who is rumored to be interested in a C to protect Wemby from bigger and stronger C's may be in a good position to absorb a contract like Ayton's or Capela's without having to give up anyone, just a large trade exception. That is what Burns and Gambo have been discussing the last couple of days. I think PHX can get players for Ayton and shouldn't be desperate to dump Ayton for just cap space.

pretty sure ATL wants to get off of Collins contract bu only having CP for 1 year, or at least paying CP for 1 year

If I'm San Antonio I'm not letting Ayton anywhere near Wemby, no how no way

He’s pretty much Ayton.

He has a ton of talent, He played great but the Hawks didn’t want to pay him and made it known. They’ve tried to trade him every chance they got.

No wonder it’s gone left. A change of scenery could do him great

I guess I'd rather gamble on Brogdon because point guard is more of a need.

Boston makes sense for CP because they need a guard shakeup and it can free up money for extending Brown by swapping out Smart or Brogdon’s contract going forward. I would do Brogdon straight up but getting a role player in return would be a huge win. Gallinari or Hauser are cheap shooters.

I was thinking you meant how much he is suddenly gaining in value! LOL! They have been trying to trade him the minute he was extended! So Ayton for Collins would be a wash. Two similar player arcs.

He's got talent. His motor is what holds him back. If he had a motor like Caleb Martin, with his size and skills, no way they trade him!
