I'm sorry but this is not possible

Everyone other than myself said the upton trade was the worst trade ever made in the history of major-league baseball and that Kevin Towers had no idea what he was doing the Diamondbacks were going to be haunted by that trade for the rest of the history of the franchise

Towers didn't have any idea what he was doing. He turned down Julio Tehran because he wanted De La Rosa, Prado was the prized pig of the trade an immediately required an extension. That three years later we FINALLY are getting something out of a trade where we sent off a hugely valuable asset does not mitigate how unfathomably idiotic the trade was at the time.

And I have always maintained that Upton fans overvalued him

He has never lived up to his potential and he never will

That does not matter, the value for the deal was a joke and the way the organization handled the entire affair was an embarrassment.

It is great that Drury is panning out, but 3 years down the line it does little to mollify how the idiocy of how that all played out.

So a trade can only be judged by what happens in the first year after it ?

And we also got Nick Ahmed from that trade directly

Three years have gone by! And during most of those 3 years the Dbacks were a punchline!

I'm rooting for Nick Ahmed, I love watching him in the field, but a position player who hits like a pitcher is worth next to nothing.

Ahmed has made defensive plays In each of the last two games that have altered the course of the game for the better

No that was the Shelby Miller deal.

To KT's credit (which I never thought I'd say) he did have a deal agreed upon for Taijaun Walker but Upton waved his NTC.

Great. I agree he has a fantastic glove, I don't question that. He also went 0-7 and his hitting under .170 on the year. I like him, I hope he somehow learns to hit well enough to hold a legit spot on a decent team, but he is simply too terrible at the dish to hold any value.

It isn't to his credit because Upton only had like 3 or 4 teams on his no trade list and KT was stupid enough to strike a deal with one of them. Upton was obviously going to shut the trade down, and after that the team lost any illusion of leverage.

Hindsight!!!

Anytime a good player is traded for prospects its a crap shoot. Guys who are sure thing prospects tank and guys taken in the 23rd round become stars. People WAY more knowledgeable than us miss on these guys every day.

Upton may never live up to the potential of a five-tool player, but he alone was worth much more than what was returned. Even Chris Johnson, the throw in, was outperforming Martin Prado, the main chip the D-Backs.

KT unequivocally got fleeced in that deal. My hope is that TLR didnt get fleeced in the Toussaint and Miller trades.

We could be saying the same thing about Swanson in a year.

The Miller trade is terrifying... his road splits were really bad throughout his career but I was hopeful that he was just a "more comfortable at home" guy, and not that he'd get killed in our park... and on the road too.

Its obviously too soon, but trading the top pick in the draft for someone we're now hoping can preform even at a #3 starter level, that is pretty hard to take...

And a quality outfielder...

And Aaron Blair, who Atlanta has already called up and through 3 starts has half of Miller's ERA.

It is sadly conceivable that every piece we gave up will be better individually than our return.

What a nightmare. Puuuuuh-LEASE turn in around Miller. I beg of you.

This is completely untrue. There were like 3 or 4 people who were happy with the trade and typically bring it up 2-3 times per season.

I am glad Drury is playing well. He has put up some solid numbers over 100 at bats. I hope he keeps it going. The trade was still crappy.

I was not happy about giving up so much but I thought he had the potential to be a #2 plus he was young and TLR was very familiar with him. What really made me made was reading a rumor ARZ could have had Gio Gonzalez for a lot less (Inciarte) but management didn't want to take on his salary after the Greinke deal and wanted to go younger with Miller. If true really bad decision.

Drury's going to be trade bait this off season, right? In the dog house and has hardly seen the field this month.

With the emergence of Marte, I don't see how you keep Marte, Owings, Drury and Ahmed. One will be traded, IMHO

I wouldn't be surprised if two are gone... My gut is that it would be both Drury and Ahmed. We'll see... if it's just one, I hope is Drury. Man he is incredibly frustrating to me in so many ways...

Marte has played better than any of them at SS. Drury and Ahmed just don't help the team. And Owings at SS is overall mediocre.

I feel sorry for Drury. He was moved from his natural position of 3B, last season to LF and this season to 2B. That is a lot to ask of a young player.

Drury from 3B to LF to 2B. Owings from SS to CF to 2B to RF. The experiment is failing.

That seems to indicate General Managers who can't stock their Major and Minor League teams with strength in reserve . . . at their natural positions.

It doesn't give them an alibi. It highlights their lack of skill.

Well, the current GM still has wet ink on his contract, so I won't blame him much for inheriting a team with holes and a ruin of a farm system.

I think it just speaks to trying to get your most effective players on the field at the same time, and sticking them in whatever position doesn't stink for them. All utility players, all the time, plus Goldschmidt. That's our team.
