Rumor has it that the Suns are looking to trade up. Givony of Draft Express says this is one of the deepest drafts in memory, so we can concluse the Suns picks should have some value.

I'm not sure whether they have someone in mind or how far they think they can go up. Here's my read on it:

Top Ten: It is hard to imagine getting into the top ten without using the Atlanta pick in the trade.

Oden
Durant
Brandan Wright
Horford
Yi
Jeff Green
Conley
Hawes
Julian Wright
Noah
Brewer

That's 11. A few mocks included Law and Thorton in the top ten, but not many

Picks 11 to 19

Law
Thornton
Thad Young
Nick Young
Jason Smith
Byars
McRoberts
Fernandez
Splitter
Stuckey
Crittenton

That's 22 guys listed in the top 19. Also, a few mocks included guys not mentioned by anone else including Tomic, Sean Williams, Glen Davis, and Al Tucker; but only Williams seems likely to be a first round pick.

My read on it is that if the Suns are looking to trade up, they are targeting someone in the second group. Right now Stuckey is the only guy listed that we know is scheduled to work out with the Suns.

If the Suns are looking to trade up, which of the middle 1st round teams would even entertain trading down? If we think the draft is so good, wouldn't that imply that the rest of the league does as well?

Possibly, but maybe one of these other teams would have more holes to fill?

I dunno.

Here's who have the picks:

11 Hawks
12 76ers
13 Hornets
14 Clippers
15 Pistons
16 Wizzards
17 Nets
18 Warriors
19 Lakers
20 Heat
21 76ers
22 Bobcats
23 Knicks

Rumor has it that the Hawks are considering a deal that would send #11 to the Blazers for Jack. I would not be surprised if they did not do a lot of wheeling and dealing, so the #11 could very well be in play.

I could see the Suns offering to give Atlanta their pick back in exchange for the #11. Banks and Atlanta's 2008 pick for the #11 might be a good move for the Suns. Especially, if they really like someone at #11 or believe that the 2008 will be higher in a weaker draft.

I thought about this, but decided it would also probably take an extra pick like our 29 this year.
Other than that the Hawks have to like Banks.
It is reported they are wanting to draft Brandon Wright at #3 instead of a point guard, so they would be looking for one on #11 unless they can get one elsewhere.

I also read that they may have a trade lined up with Portland to get Jarrett Jack for the #11. Portland is trying out a player soon that would go in that area.

It is rumored that the Blazers can get the #11 for Jarret Jack. I would guess we won't be able to outbid the Blazers for the pick.

I think there are some teams that are willing to drop down a few places in this draft, and get almost as good a player because of the quality of this draft. By trading they can do a two for one because of that.

The suns have a veteran team and are looking for a certain type player and want to trade up to get him.

You have to factor in the flexibility and insurance that Atlanta would gain by getting their own pick back. Getting their pick back will allow them to trade a first rounder which they were prohibited to do because the rule not allowing teams to trade picks in consecutive years. Also they will have insurance against a bad record if they have injuries or perhaps just play bad again.

This is crap.

It seems like the Suns are "Looking to trade up" every year and then when the time comes to pull the trigger they sell their picks for cash.

They need to shut their pie holes until they actually do something to improve the team.

Is it possible we're giving ATLs 2008 1st back to them for their 11th this year?

If it were on the table I would do it. I don't think the Suns would get a better pick from Atlanta next year.

The Suns might even be able to add a pick to it and move up even further.

I think you could get the #3 and The #11 plus a player or two, form Marion and Banks.

Atlanta really wants a vet. They would love to convert the #3 to a quality vet player.

Giving away marion for draft picks just seems like throwing a filet minion down the garbage disposal and hoping a cheeseburger will pop out

Dont throw the filet away! you already have a filet! Swap it for a bigger filet!

I tend to agree with you. Its about cap space etc. But if we can keep Marion, it would be better.

Here's what we know will happen. Some good player will fall, especially in a draft as deep as this. This will give us options.

We have players, two picks, and the Atlanta pick next year all to use (not all together, but as pieces to work with) to swoop in and get a player that might fall into the late teens or 20's.

Right now, I would be interested in getting.

Acie Law
Tiago Splitter
Josh McRoberts (if he falls to 24)
Marco Belinelli

There will be some late first round gems, and at least one future all-star will be drafted in the second round.

Its a deep draft.

I'm not sure which players the Suns will go after but I do agree with your philosophy. I think there will be some absolute gems available near the end of the first round and well into the second round.

However, I think that if a particular player begins to slide (considered top tier by the Suns scouts) the Suns will go after him hard.
