OT I hate seeing other young QBs benefit from under center play action passes down field. We just need more of it to really push the ball.

Will sound dumb but if you take out that one throw to Sherfield, which was impressive, Lance actually looked quite mediocre last night. 5-14 for 128 yards take out that one play it's 4-13 for 48 yards. He got sacked 4 times and 3 of them were his fault. The announcers commented on it he has this weird habit of standing in the pocket completely straight up and down, and you almost think they must have blown the play dead because it doesn't look like he's in a live play. Two of those sacks it was almost like practice where you aren't allowed to hit the QB, except it was a real game and he got hit.
He has a huge arm, and he's a big strong kid that can run. The play to Sherfield was impressive but other than that he looked quite pedestrian, he missed throws consistently high, which in the NFL is a bad thing(interceptions), he held the ball way too long, he didn't see open guys, he didn't react to the pass rush etc. He's very raw, he has a good coach and tremendous talent but you can see why Shanahan has not named him the starter yet
Local media is showing clips saying look how much stronger his arm is than Jimmy G's, look at this amazing throw, absolutely true but at least last night it was 1 good play 2 bad ones

He had about 3 passes dropped that would have added another 40 yards tbf.

Lance is going to suck. That's my guess. So what about his arm? Lots of Golden Arm wonders who were crappy NFL QBs.

I saw one clear drop and two high throws that weren't caught. If you read about him in camp the one negative so far all along has been his tendency to miss high, even the media calling for him to start have been pretty consistent on that one when he misses it's often high which is bad in the NFL. Leads to tipped INT's and leads to receivers getting laid out.
He has a great arm, he's a great athlete I can fully get why Shanahan wanted to take a chance on him if he can teach him how to be a QB he has a chance to be great. But he's VERY raw, he basically played one year of college football.
I should add all indications are Jimmy G will start, and they will have a "package" of plays for Lance when the season starts.

I don't think he'll play all that much unless Jimmy G gets hurt or just folds under the pressure of having Trey behind him. My guess is he'll play more 2nd half of the season.
He's very athletic but he's just not remotely polished. He does this very weird thing where he just basically relaxes in the pocket like he doesn't think it's a live play, it's really odd he did it repeatedly yesterday the local guys on tv were commenting on it he needs to be more focused he's not in a good throwing position he's just standing there. If it's a play fake, it's really odd.
What does the announcer say as trent is going I to the end zone, "Trey-area"? What the heck is that?

Watching it again right now I'll give you the 3 drops.
On their 2nd to last series of the half you really saw the inexperience, he rockets a ball to James in double coverage, the announcer criticized James for not laying out for the ball but it's a high throw that leads James right into the safety, James is actually lucky he lost his footing a bit and couldn't lay out he would have got hammered. Then he completes a screen for a first down. then he gets baited into an INT but the DB drops it, one of those where his tendency to push the ball not get up over the top really helped him because the ball sailed high, if it's thrown accurately the CB picks it easily. Then he badly misses the TE over the middle he had time but he's watching the interior pass rush then doesn't step into the throw and misses badly left. Then he takes a sack, the guy got beat off the snap but Lance did what Kyler did as a rookie his first instinct is to try and outrun the pass rush then he realizes he can't and steps right into the sack.
They get the ball back and he again steps up right into a sack and fumble which he recovers. A couple of plays later he stares down Jennings and again the pick is dropped by a CB from KC
The announcers love him they were still blaming James for the incompletion even after the replay clearly shows it's a high throw and James was stumbling on it a bit he didn't alligator arm it or not give full effort he lost a step with the stumble and the ball was so high and hard he had no chance. again he led the WR right into a big hit.
IF he were a Cardinal my big things would be:
Has to fix his mechanics he doesn't come over the top consistently and he pushes it which makes the ball go high.
Has to learn about the pocket, he's not running backwards like Kyler did as a rookie but he tends to just stand there holding the ball, often not in throwing position like he doesn't realize it's a live play.
Like all rookies reads. There's a play in one of the drives where Gallman is wide open from the left side cutting over the middle and he holds the ball instead. It's the same play where he gets sacked where I commented above he tried to outrun the sack. if he gets rid of it quicker it's probably a first down to Gallman.
But great arm, big strong kid, they keep raving about how smart he is which is great for a young QB. You can see why they liked him.

Teams have a tendency to go with self-fulfilling prophecies. Therefor draft picks, like Isabella, get the majority of the opportunities. Sheffield may not be a great offensive player but I worry about discarding great gunners when money is available.

Yep. Sherfield is great STer and a superior to receiver Invisibella (and a whole lot cheaper). You’d think Keim would’ve learned from Rosen and cut his losses with Andy. He has zero intangibles and zero value.
