Personally, with Rivers and Oubre currently slated to be officially traded to the Suns tomorrow, and our "need" for a starting PG, I think our bigger need is at PF now that Book is back. Melton has been a stud since joining the starters, as seen below in the tweet below. We still need more defense and rebounding from our front court. Unless the Suns can grab a stud starting PG, then I think they need to look at bringing in a legit PF. Although he's a little small, he's still a stud and would work great in our line-up....Tobias Harris!!!!

Tobias isn't going anywhere unless it's a deal for a star. Not just because of his current play, but the FO loves him.

Yeah, Harris is not going anywhere. I also don't quite agree with PF being a bigger need. I think Warren has done an excellent job. Most teams out there are playing small ball. While Melton has had a couple of good games, he is still not a good player, let alone a point guard.

He's not a good player yet but for a 20 year old rookie, I think he's showing quite well.

Perhaps. Even if I accept that, we are talking about the teams biggest needs now. We are talking Warren at PF and Melton at PG. PG is the bigger need right now.

48 minutes to split between Ayton and Holmes.

Ayton needs as much time as he can handle and Holmes is one of our most productive players
they both need more minutes than 48 between them
they should have some time on the court together

PG is still the need. Warren is our pf and he is doing fine at it. Melton is showing promise, but he is still far from being what we need.

I agree on JJ and Oubre, but I disagree on Bridges. Unless you can get a legit star PG (Lilard, Walker, etc), Bridges should not be traded. That kid is crazy good, and when his shots start to fall at a higher percentage, he will be huge for this team. His defense and intangibles are exactly what this team needs. I also don't buy this "overabundance of wings" thing. They have Booker and Warren who are solid players and Warren can play a small ball PF too. Bridges will be a legit player. Oubre and Jackson are unknowns. there is no guarantee that either will be a real NBA player. That's not overabundance of wings.

And i would only trade them for a guy like lilard or Kemba i agree. So not even bridges is off the table in that situation imo

I guess i should put it in a different way as far as having to many wings. We cant keep them all, eventually we need a legit distributing PG who can shoot and a guy at the 4 who can stretch the court and rebound. Our lineup is definitely hurting in the rebound department. I dont think anyone can deny that. There wont be enough minutes for everyone at that point

If wins were going to get us somewhere this season, I'd agree point guard is still our greatest need. But given that we have an abundance of guards, it seems to me that chasing another one makes little sense right now. Hopefully by the end of the season we'll know more about Melton, Okobo and even Evans if he's still with us. I'm not expecting great things at PG out of the combination of Rivers, Melton, Crawford and Booker but it should be enough for this season.

I don't think so, unless you're talking long term. If we can add a PG now that could be the answer now and into the future then that is what we should go after but I think with Melton's play and adding Austin Rivers, we've bought some time at PG. It's not ideal to let them run the PG spot for the rest of the season but it's not as gaping of a hole as it was at the beginning of the season. We're at the point where we don't really need a rental PG or stop gap PG. Adding a PF is more important because we need to see how Ayton does with a true PF because we'll have money to spend this summer and we don't want to overpay for someone that doesn't work next to Ayton. That's why we need to try and find a better PF this year. We'll see what happens but I would put PF as our 1a need and PG as our 1b. Both are needs still but what we need from those positions is just a little a different.

From what's been rumored, the Clips are looking to trade Harris so they have the room to sign 2 max deals, i.e. Durant and Leonard. Keeping Harris on his current deal won't allow that.

Big picture, I still think we need a PG, however, PF is a huge need as well. There have been way too many games where we have been put rebounded by 15+. We don't have the big bodies to consistantly stay even or win the rebounding each game.

Harris is an expiring contract, and having his Bird rights seems like a good back up plan if they miss on one or both of KD and Leonard.

Gallo is the one they want off their books.

Harris is a legitimate player. I would be thrilled if the Suns could acquire him providing they can keep him.

I like the idea, but they need about $15 million in expiring and assets for that. We do not have the contract to make that happen. Of course, if we still had Tyson Chandler it would be easy. the only real way to get Harris is as a FA this summer.

Now that’s interesting. As much as I’d love an uber-stud PF getting a guy like Harris to be our stretch PF would likely be perfect. He’s an energy guy, has range, can be a big scorer, is a good middle career vet whom I’ve never heard a negative word about. would slide in perfectly with this squad and be a good veteran. I don’t think I’d have said this last year, but I’d give up JJ plus Milwaukee pick (and maybe swap Milwaukee out for ours protected) and something else (oubre? Okobo?) for him. But don’t know what would be enough to get him.

Hmm, he needs to be a target then imo. Have to hope okobo/Melton duo shows us a lot this year, or we can trade package of JJ/oubre, Melton/okobo, and bucks pick/out pick protected for a pg and then use cap space to go get Harris. Dream offseason.

New PG
Booker
Warren
Harris
Ayton

Melton/okobo remainder
Crawford/daniels
Bridges
JJ/oubre remainder
Holmes

That squad can win.

Or if the Suns still had Darrell Arthur (waived), they could package Bender and Daniels to get there.

I really like Harris. He is the perfect modern NBA power forward but I doubt if the Suns will spend the money this summer if some other team does not step up.

I still like Mirotic. He will cost less I think and fills a huge need. I am not against Harris either.

Our immediate depth chart probably looks like this.

Melton, Crawford, Okobo
Booker, Rivers, Daniels
Bridges, Jackson
Warren, Oubre, Bender
Ayton, Holmes

I know a lot of people don't like Rivers. But the kid has skills. I would not be in favor of handing him the starting pg position. Melton has been playing well and we should let that ride and see where it goes. Rivers can play point and eventually will here I think, but he is more naturally a two. So giving him some burn off the bench behind Booker makes some sense. Oubre is long enough to play some pf. He does not have the bulk for it, but that is the way this league is going anyway. Oubre was Washington's 6th man. Who knows, we might even see a little of Bender in the next few weeks.

Has anyone else noticed how much of a cheerleader Bender is on the bench? Good on him.

I like Randle more than Mirotic. He gives you some toughness and rebounding while still giving you some three-point shooting/ floor-stretching. Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled with Mirotic and especially Harris, but I really like Randle's fit alongside Ayton.

Interesting comparison between the two. Mirotic is a better outside shooter, better offensive rating, better defensive rating. Randle is a better rebounder and two point shooter. Its close, but I take Mirotic. I think he is better at the little things that do not show up on the stat sheet. He is like Mikal that way.

I like both but I would agree that Mirotic is probably a better fit on the floor with Ayton. But Mirotic didn't come out of that Portis situation looking very good. If reports are true, despite Portis being suspended, nobody supported Nikola in that incident.
