WTF? Originally ask for Rivers and D Brooks and eventually tale Rivers and Oubre, with everyone thinking Rivers was the key addition to only buy him out?

There's gotta be something coming soon, if not, what was the point of the trade to begin with, when Ariza could've and would've taken a buyout.

Who thought Rivers was the key addition? He was never the key addition. It was Dillon Brooks and then Oubre the Suns wanted.

I can't stress enough...Austin Rivers is a shoot-first point guard who can't even hit a free throw with consistency.

We've been saying that after every move the Suns made for the last few months, haha.

My God... this is the trade that just doesn't stop kicking us in the nuts.

So, we basically gave Ariza away for another small forward to jam into or in front of our other two young SFs, and did nothing with an asset to even try and address PG?

Eh, addition by subtraction. Ariza was somewhere between useless and toxic.

if it was really the case that the Ariza deal was really just about getting... an Ariza substitute, the trade was pretty idiotic, IMO.

he was still an asset. No one was putting a gun to their head to make a trade THE SECOND the lock struck midnigh-- forget it.

and if he was useless and toxic, that is a BIG black mark on the Coach who wanted him as our number 1 priority. And that ain't Igor derangement syndrome BS. That's just fact that he had a hand in blowing all our cap room on a guy who was toxic and pointless on the team.

Correct. Rivers was the price we had to pay to get Dillon, then Oubre. He was a big part of the chemistry problems in the Wizards locker room from what I've read. I don't think we have the adults to control a headstrong player with the ego he has even with his supposed "mentor" here.

I am just saying you are overreacting. Oubre was the best player involved. I am also not sold on Ariza being a real asset. I am guessing they got Oubre for him only because the Wizards are such a mess. Expiring contracts no longer have the value they used to.

I think Dillon Brooks and Oubre both have more trade value than Ariza for most teams. We wanted to get some value for Ariza, they wanted to get rid of Rivers. But I doubt Oubre is in our future, I expect he'll just be passing through Phoenix and gone by the All Star Game. I doubt we'll get much for him either.

Ariza probably had pretty limited value imho. Not sure Oubre works out, but he's 23 with some upside. He gets 13 ppg off the bench and we have rfa control over him instead of a 33-year-old whom we had zero chance of resigning. Seems like a positive transaction to me. Really, I'm just thrilled I don't have to watch Austin Rivers all season.

And I'm just saying you'll figure out a way for the Suns to be in the right no matter the situation or how many times you have to change your opinion to fit the situation when it inevitably turns out badly for the Suns.

I don't think anybody wants Rivers besides his dad. He also has little value as an expiring contract because a traded player can't be packaged with another player until 60 days after the trade which in this case would be after the league trade deadline.

He can only be traded individually and he'll be a free agent this offseason. I doubt anyone would want to trade for him and him alone unless they were dumping a bad contract on us.

Lol, OK. Shame on me for not screaming that the sky is falling every time anything happens. We are talking about Trevor Ariza and Austin Rivers, for God's sake.

all that said, I'm happy Ariza will go freeze his ass off on the Wizards and will never see the floor again.

I was definitely disappointed with Ariza, but the GM who pursued him and sold him on Phoenix and the plan was fired before the season even started.

Oh come on, that's nothing like what I'm talking about. I'm not predicting we'll make another trade to get better, I'm saying we wanted to get rid of Ariza and we aren't going to benefit much from it. I think we got the best player of the names mentioned (including Dillon) but he's supposedly expecting a pretty decent contract and I don't see him being in our plans. So I think we'll move him for very little value if we can and if not we'll likely let him walk at the end of the season.

If anyone has questions about Austin, fire away. I'll tell ya what you want to know.

That said, hes a better player than he ever gets credit for, but not what the Suns need. I'd be surprised if he's on the roster come March (playoff roster addition deadline).

Didnt think he would make it to March, but thought the Suns would hold out on the buyout unless he gave something back, and thus play for a bit. Either way, probably the best for both sides. He wasnt solving the PG problem, and I am sure he made it clear he didnt want to be there.
