If Montero was truly a leader he wouldn't bad mouth a current or former teammate. He could have said something like the example Keith Law gave on twitter:

People who want to say Bauer sucked, take a look at Tyler Skaggs. His stats were worse and he was pitching in the majors healthy, unlike Bauer. Bauer had a groin strain and when he got better he magically started pitching like himself.

I actually agree with this... Completely. Plus, the kid was a rook, not even two full years out of college and pitching in the bigs. I for one was willing to overlook the fact that he wasn't immediately Justin Verlander and was willing to give benefit of the doubt..

A flake to the degree that he has demonstrated . . . is a flake. In weighing the plusses and the minuses, I agree with the team's decision to let him take his show elsewhere. Especially with the abundance of potential starting pitchers we have. If we were hard up, that might have increased the +/- ratio.

I don't ever think you can have too many young starting pitchers... There's always a high demand for them..

That said, I can't and won't continue to cry over spilled milk. Bauer is gone now, much to my chagrin. May as well get used to it and hope for the best.

It's still early, but Didi is tearing it up in spring training thus far.

He is hitting .474 with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs on 19 ABs.

Spring is never a reflection of what'll happen regular season. Didi is NOT known for his bat by any stretch of anyones imagination.

That is true, but I'll take it over .174 with no power. As I posted in the thread about Johnny Mac getting traded, every one of Didi's spring training at-bats has been as a DH, resting in between.

I am looking forward to seeing Didi as our lead SS when he is ready.

And yet he is hitting the ball very well. I understand this doesn't prove that he will be this good come regular season time, but I would much rather him be hitting how he is than for him to be hitting like everyone expects him to hit.

Ok, so I would love to eat crow on this if Didi got to the majors and was hitting .270 for us consistantly.. But where do you draw the line? What if he put up CY numbers and bat around .230? Is an acceptable average for a middle infielder who is more known for his glove?

Time will tell about Didi. Meanwhile, 'glass half full'.

And being that this thread is half about Trevor Bauer, the Cleveland Indians have optioned him and two other pitchers to Triple-A Columbus. 'Glass half empty'. :)

Bauer never had a chance to break camp with the Indians. They, like every team and us with Skaggs, keep guys in the minors to delay free agency. You can book it that by June 1, Bauer is in the majors.

7 walks in 5 innings. A flake is a flake is a flake.

Is Bauer ever going to realize that his attention-getting routines are probably the cause of, and no match for, his constant failures at the Major League level? Probably not!

His routines likely have no impact at this point in his career. It's more likely his interactions with his catcher, which would be embarrassing for any grown up.

The routine is just one piece of the puzzle. His narcissism and all-knowing attitude play a key role in his lack of development. Once I heard he was arguing with Miguel Montero his first day on the job, I knew he wasn't wired right.

IMO, Bauer needs to be on a team with a strong coaching presence and a ton of veterans to keep him focused. Simply put, he cannot be in a situation in which he can possibly be the center of attention without actually producing.

This... Forget everything else you hear and/or feel about the kid. His high and might approach toward his teammates and coaches is a direct result of the way he has been pampered his entire life.
He will need to seriously, and I mean seriously crash and hit rock bottom in order to ressurect himself and ultimately approach the promise his talent possesses...

This past week Gregorius is the most exciting player on the team and it ain't even close.

Goldschmidt had a great week as well... DiDi is extremely exciting to watch and having both of these guys on the team is our version of Thunder and Lightening!

This past week Gregorius is the most exciting player on the team and it ain't even close.
He has started out for us as a 5-tool player. Hitting for average, hitting for power, fielding, throwing, running. And he knows when to take a chance, either in the field or on the bases. Plus he's a lefty hitting shortstop.

Old-timers might remember the production "Purlie Victorious" with the great Ossie Davis (who wrote it) and his wife Ruby Dee, and a whole bunch of great soon-to-be-stars. Then the wonderful musical "Purlie", starring the incomparable Melba Moore. One of my favorites.

Based on the popular Broadway play, Purlie Victorious is the story of a black preacher (award-winning stage and screen actor, Ossie Davis), who returns home to rural Georgia to claim an inheritance and bring down Ol' Cap'n Stonewall Jackson Cotchipee (Sorrell Booke, The Dukes of Hazzard), the ruthless plantation owner that he once served. Accompanying Purlie is Miss Lutiebelle Jenkins (Ruby Dee), a pretty young girl who has captured his heart. Purlie persuades her to convince Cotchipee that she is the long-lost relative entitled to the family inheritance. But, the plot goes awry and Purlie must hide to escape the old man's wrath. He finds a surprise ally in Cotchipee's son, Charlie (award-winning actor, Alan Alda, in his first film role), a progressive Southern gentleman who takes matters into his own hands, eventually helping Purlie emerge victorious. While played with comedic effect, Purlie Victorious reflects the powerful themes of the civil rights movement in the 1960s. The movie also stars Godfrey M. Cambridge, Hilda Haynes, Beah Richards, Charles Welch and Ralph Roberts.

Purlie Victorious -- fictional character.

Didi Gregorious -- he's for real.

I'm looking forward to seeing Didi and Eaton in the same lineup. With those two guys, we may a lineup that looks different than any other DBack lineup I can remember. Then add in Goldy, Hill and the rest of the guys and we could have an exciting team that can scratch and claw their way to wins.

DG is off to a hot start. I'm withholding judgment. Talk to me in a month, when pitchers stop throwing him fastballs.

Haha exactly. There's no book on him. It will come, and that avg will plummet. I really do like the kids hustle though. He's a great defender and he just looks like a batter out there.
