Apparently D-Backs, A's discussing trade for Trevor Cahill. Olney said two have been talking for a week.

I understand to get something, you have to give something and a young pitcher under team control for a fww more years is a valuable commodity.... However, I'm not about giving up Bauer.

It's not like you're risking the future by getting Cahill. He's 23 himself. Basically trading a non-established prospect for an established one.

Bauer can't be dealt. He would need to be traded as a PTNL and they have to be decided within 6 months. He signed in late July so that means he can't be a PTNL until late January. I would be in favor of this deal if it involved a pitcher like Charles Brewer or Pat Corbin. If it is Parker then I'll be upset.

Beane will get one of those guys. I know Cahill is coming off a down year, but he's still a young, front line starter. You have to give something of quality up to get something.

Absolutely hate this trade if any of Parker/Skaggs/Bauer is involved. Cahill was EXTREMELY lucky to pull that 2.97 ERA out of his ass in 2010, his babip was stupid low/lucky at .236. In 2011 his babip normalized and his era jumped to where it should be, 4.16.

Now if we can pull this trade without giving up any of our big 3 I will be fine with it, but I believe that all 3 of our top prospects will be better starters than cahill. He is in all likelihood going to be an average, middle of the rotation guy.

Difference in talent levels. Always rather have the ground ball pitcher, Cahill, to the fly ball pitcher, Gonzalez, when talent is close to equal.

I am good with this. I think Cahill's contract runs through 2015 with team options in 2016 and 2017. So we give up a prospect with potential for a relatively established guy with a great contract.

It's official: Parker, Cowgill, Cook for Cahill, Breslow, and cash. Ugh. Breslow will be a solid pen addition but I am far from sold on Cahill. I am pretty damn confident Parker will be the better pitcher, potentially right from the get go.

Getting Breslow makes the deal easier to swallow. Other than Parker we didn't give up much. I liked Cowgill and Cook but we have plenty of guys. It isn't as awful a deal I was thinking when I first heard but still don't like it. I have loved what Parker brings to the table and it sucks we only got 1 start.

This is an ok trade as long as they stop trading away prospects. Keep Skaggs and Bauer!!!

I don't mind the deal because Cahill is only 23. Unproven prospect for a proven prospect. He's got a solid sinker and I'll bet his numbers improve in the NL and especially Chase.

I don't follow the AL at all, so I can't comment on this trade in particular but I hope to God Towers stops with the "go for it now" mentality. This team over achieved last year, they have holes all over the field (3B, CF, 2B, 1B are all less than solid/assured) and may regress this year. Lets let the guys continue to grow and mature....while it seems like Uptons been around for a while, he's still only 24, they have a real long window and I don't want them making the same blunders they did after '07.

Really? The Dbacks have about a million high potential pitching prospects. I don't see the issue with dealing one of them for a pitcher who is already established and still very young at 23.

I fail to see how this is a "go for it all" mentality. I think it's a good move. You can't just bring up 3 pitching prospects at once and expect them to instantly be reliable starters. Look how long it took Kennedy to "get it." And it's not like Cahill doesn't have any upside. He's one of the more promising young pitchers in the game.

This isn't the Phoenix Suns. The D-backs can legitimately win next season. We can "go for it now" without breaking the bank. Trading Parker away stinks, but we did get an young, proven starter in return and still have Bauer and Skaggs waiting in the wings. I like still love our pitching moving forward.

This team was one inning away from the NLCS last season and who knows what would have happened had it gotten that far.

Whether or not the D-Backs overachieved last season is debatable; however, it won its division by 8 games and is not losing any pieces. Trading Parker for Cahill is not exactly an all-or-nothing move like the Dan Haren deal, where we traded away half of our farm system. It is merely solidifying a rotation that has the potential to be upper-echelon.
