Gambo is saying that the DBacks & A's are really close to finalizing this. Not sure of the prospect going to Oakland, but it's not Skaggs.
Little worried that it's Bauer. But other than that? I'm OK with anyone else. (Even Archie Bradley, I guess.)
It's not like you're risking the future by getting Cahill. He's 23 himself. Basically trading a non-established prospect for an established one.
If we don't give up Parker, Skaggs, Bauer or Bradley, it's a great trade.
Beane will get one of those guys. I know Cahill is coming off a down year, but he's still a young, front line starter. You have to give something of quality up to get something.
I'm betting it's Parker.
Wouldn't be too upset if it were.
If that's the case, I'd rather give one of them up to get Gio.
He won't fit in Arizona. Gio is a flyball pitcher.
Just like Dan Haren, right?
Piecoro and Rosenthal are reporting that it looks like Parker will be involved, don't like that at all. Parker definitely looks like he has top of the rotation stuff, Cahill is decent, but hasn't been a strikeout pitcher, and doesn't look like a potential ace.
The deal at this point appears to be Parker, Colin Cowgill and some lower level prospects for Cahill and Craig Breslow.
hope to God Towers stops with the "go for it now" mentality
Really? The Dbacks have about a million high potential pitching prospects. I don't see the issue with dealing one of them for a pitcher who is already established and still very young at 23.
I fail to see how this is a "go for it all" mentality. I think it's a good move. You can't just bring up 3 pitching prospects at once and expect them to instantly be reliable starters. Look how long it took Kennedy to "get it." And it's not like Cahill doesn't have any upside. He's one of the more promising young pitchers in the game.
I don't follow the AL at all, so I can't comment on this trade in particular but I hope to God Towers stops with the "go for it now" mentality. This team over achieved last year, they have holes all over the field (3B, CF, 2B, 1B are all less than solid/assured) and may regress this year. Lets let the guys continue to grow and mature....while it seems like Uptons been around for a while, he's still only 24, they have a real long window and I don't want them making the same blunders they did after '07.
