Yeah, you're not interested in an actual debate.

So what are you going to say when Monti keeps his powder dry...for nothing at all. What excuse then?
Are you asking me to actually take a stance on a future event where you have ZERO clue of the outcome?

Do you seriously want me to answer on a hypothetical outcome in the future?? SURE, I'll answer that if you answer the other spectrum of that hypothetical outcome?

What is your excuse when Monti trades for Trey Hendrickson?

Just read my posts again. Having cap space and "keeping your powder dry" has ZERO effort on the cap, because Monti used the powder to ease the future cap hit on Budda, Conner and Froholdt.

Three options:
1. Zero bullets to fire
2. Having bullets. Not using it now, but getting extra bullets next year.
3. Fire your bullet.

Which one do you prefer?

You are actually arguing that option 1 is better right now. That is moronic!

PJJ has a higher ceiling and will potentially/hopefully develop into a better player.

Last season PJJ was ranked #12 among OTs.
Froholdt #6 at C. PFF put him on their all-pro team (which I do not agree with)
Considering there are two starting OTs/team and one center/team that makes them about equal, no?

Can’t you manipulate contracts to either create/or chew up cap space? For instance if we’re at the end of the offseason and there’s nothing to use the cap space on, can’t you accelerate some of the players future salary into a bonus or restructure their contract to make them front loaded? And vice versa, can’t you use all the cap space now and if an opportunity becomes available restructure a contract to move more cap hit into the future?

You could definately argue that - yes.

Objectively. Correct.

I think Froholdt is better personally because he’s elite in some aspects of the game. He ranked as the 4th best runblocking and by far best in space.

PJJ is just all around solid, but looking forward for him to take a step forward this season.

Absolutely. And that is what Monti has done. He used the existing cap space by transforming garanteed money into 2024 base salary. Used the cap space and lowered future cap hit, because the signing bonus/garanteed money that is usually spread over the entire contract now went against the 2024 cap space.

So if that’s the case, and he doesn’t use up all of the cap space this offseason it’s just blown cap space that unnecessarily burdens future caps, right? There is no gamble for another as-yet unknown opportunity.

5th most snaps isn't a part time player. Williams also missed a game.

Garrett - 48.8 snaps a game
STV - 48.2 snaps a game

Garrett played the most snaps per game of any CB.

ST5 got sat the last two games once we were eliminated to give snaps to Melton and Kei’Trel Clark.

I like Garrett Williams. Probably more than JG and Rallis do.

If not used at all. It’s a missed opportunity to create more cap space - yes.

My point is… Monti used the unused cap space last year to extend players and ease the cap this year. You have to assume that the he will do the same this year. The man is a NFL GM. He designed contracts this year to create more cap room. Do you honestly think he did that for fun - in the 3rd year of his tenure where the team is supposed to be competitive per plan? AND where you have an abundance of cap space again next year

Even if he only brings in a mid level player like Browning like last season. He has the flexibility now AND can use the unused cap space to front load extensions

Moronic is every year sitting on tons of cap space without doing your utmost to compete while half the board promises that, no, really NEXT year is the year they'll spend to the cap trying to compete, really, we swear! Rinse, wash, repeat.

Again. WTF are you talking about??

Monti is entering his 3rd year.

The first year was a wash with Kyler out half the season and a huge dead cap to clear. No room to operate.

2nd year he had cap space. He added Browning and used the rest available cap space to lower the cap hit for Budda, Conner and Froholdt in the future.

3rd year he spend big and constructed contracts so he had more cap room than he would logically have available after the spending.

What year after year?? Please enlighten us? What year?

You excuse away his first year. I and others don't. There was zero reason to go belly up.

He added Browning later in the season. An okay move, but a move that could've easily been done regardless of the cap situation. He didn't need to save cap space beforehand to do so. As Ouchie clarified, cap space can be found for these kinds of moves all the time. And, while the Budda, Conner, and Fro moves were nice, they had zero to do with making the team better LAST YEAR. The whole point we are arguing over is how to utilize the cap to win in the CURRENT YEAR.

He's spent big enough and saved himself cap room this offseason. Okay, cool. I haven't been dogging Monti non-stop this offseason, but now he has the extra cap space. He needs to freaking use it. Other than saving for injuries, your rookie pool, and a bit extra, there's absolutely no reason not to spend. If he saves it and just rolls it over or uses it to extend players, then he's not using it THIS season. Pretty clear there.

You're acting like I peed in your cheerios. We're talking hypotheticals here. I'm not mad at Monti right now. I will be mad at him if he just sits on that money and doesn't use it to help the team this season--like last year, and the year before--sure. Unless and until he does, I'm low-key excited for what's happening and ready for the draft.

You just like to get pissed about anything and everything I have to say. That's a you problem.

If you truly believe a slot CB is a part-time player in today's NFL I'm looking forward to your post on why Fullback should be the target in the 1st.
Garrett Williams played less snaps in 2024 than Starling Thomas. 71% to 75%. In a year where he was healthy. 5th on the team in defensive snaps and no one here argues the defense and CB room was stacked last year.

A really good nickel CB is valuable, but there does need to be context of what the top end of that value looks like. Tyrann Mathieu is probably the best example of a what a top end nickel CB looks like and he rarely came off the field except for injury.

Sure, you can do all kinds of manipulation for accounting purposes, but remember that Cap space is not available cash.

We know how much Cap space the CARDS have, not the amount of cash Monti has available to spend this fiscal year.

I can imagine an extension for Garrett Williams at some point this year as a new expenditure.

Can't extend him until after he completes his 3rd season, just like with Trey.

STV played 55% and 84% of snaps the last two games. When you look at his seasonal range, he was right in it.

The Cardinals are currently sitting with the 10th most Effective cap space in the league right now.

The good news for you is that next year the Cardinals are projected to have only $20M in effective cap space to start the off season which would put them currently at the 10th worst amount of effective cap space.

And cutting Justin Jones, SMB and Bidal Nicols frees up and another $22 million. Which creates only $7 million in dead money. With some carry over and cuts, we can get to $45-$50 million easily. That's all with a nearly full roster of 53ish players if you include this years and next years draft.

Starling Thomas played 820 defensive snaps. Garrett Williams played 781 defensive snaps. That is less.

And, if you look into % snaps played per game, Garrett Williams is lower than SMB. Per PFR which I know you looked at.

SMB - 77%
GWill - 76%
STV - 75%

So, per PFR, Garrett Williams played less total defensive snaps than STV, and played a lower % of snaps per game in which he appeared than SMB.

Again, none of this means Garrett Williams isn't a very good player, but he has a specific role, and it is what keeps him from being a top defensive player. If that role changes or he grows out of that role while maintaining the same level of play, then we can talk about a top CB.

I didn't look at SMB per game. STV was who was bought up and who I looked at.

But now that I did, he only played 15 game with 778 for 48.5 snaps per game.

The argument was that STV was taking snaps from Williams.

Garrett - 48.8 snaps a game
SMB - 48.5 snaps per game.
STV - 48.2 snaps a game

Even with SMB, Garrett still plays the most snaps per game. No no one is taking snaps from Garrett.

I don't know why you reference PFR and then do your own math. Snaps per game is something you are making up. It's a flawed viewpoint which is why PFR doesn't use it. Some games teams play more defensive snaps than others. Better to go off of snaps played vs total defensive snaps in those specific games when looking at how they were used in games where they were available.

You're ridiculous! Injuries happen in the NFL more than any sport. Snaps per game show how much paying time a player gets. They get when they actually suite up. When dressed, Williams plays the most of all the CBs. That is a fact.

Unfortunately you and K9 have never been wrong a day in your life, so you win! I give up!

Just answer the question I have asked several times. You have not answered. Your moronic stand is that you prefer Monti to NOT to have the flexibility to add more player in case he doesn't use it. Is this really your stance?

He's spent big enough and saved himself cap room this offseason. Okay, cool. I haven't been dogging Monti non-stop this offseason, but now he has the extra cap space. He needs to freaking use it. This makes absolutely no sense!!!

You are already concluding that Monty keeps his powder dry. And again. Just answer the question. Do you really want Monti to NOT have any powder? Monti constructed contracts the year to have more money to spend. He could easily have chosen not to do this and there would be zero money to spend, but now he has the option AND it has zero impact on the cap in the future because he can even that out by extending players.

Who would you like him to sign right now? 9 days before the draft. Who?

You are acting like it’s a conclusion that he is not using it.

I ask the same question AGAIN.
Would you prefer that he didn’t create the extra space?
You're acting like I peed in your cheerios. We're talking hypotheticals here. I'm not mad at Monti right now. I will be mad at him if he just sits on that money and doesn't use it to help the team this season--like last year, and the year before--sure. Unless and until he does, I'm low-key excited for what's happening and ready for the draft.

You just like to get pissed about anything and everything I have to say. That's a you problem.
I’m completely calm. And it's not a me problem, it's a you problem. Stop playing victim here...

I'm keep challenging you because of YOUR behavior. You are making up false narratives in order to criticize other posters. That is on you! Right now you are making up that I give Monti credit for trying, while there is probably 20 posts where I am saying the opposite.

You had a post out of nowhere "I see a lot of Bidwill apologists on this board". I haven't seen a single post defending Bidwill and not willing to call out his shortcomings as an owner. Yet, you just make something up like that to build a false narrative.

So as long as you show zero respet for other people's opinion and have to create false narratives in order to justify yourself, I'll comment.

AND PLEASE!

Just answer the question. Are you actually saying that you prefer Monti NOT to have created this extra capspace, giving him ZERO options to add more player or to trade for someone THIS season??
