Trey Hendrickson- Can we get him?

I looked into this a bit more. Hendrickson was given permission to seak a trade last Thursday.
The big issue with him is money. He knows he is coming to the end and he wants to cash in. But the Bengals are struggling to "Make Chase the highest paid non QB in the league" while also placing the franchise tag on Higgins for the second year in a row.

Hendrickson wants money in accordance with the new payscale reset...likely looking at 4 years between 130-140 million. Thats a lot of cheddar for a guy at 30, but not so much if he continues getting over 15 sacks a season for most of those years.

For trade value...the last pass rusher over 30 to get a 2nd round pick in return was Kalil Mack a few years back. Even most of the guys in their late twenties are only drawing a third plus.... But they didnt just put up 17.5 sacks either....and the other guys were under contract so an immediate huge extension was not part of the equation.

Its possible a 3rd plus gets it done..my previous suggestion of 2 thirds would actually be a pretty high offer. Or a 2025 third and a 2026 second. The biggest issue is that he is still under contract for 1 more year and Cincy does not want to lose him...Hendrickson is going to have to force the issue in order for the GM to move on any deal.
It seams, they are allowing him to see what kind of contract offers other teams will make and if it is just not doable for Cincy, then they will look at what said team is offering in trade.
Its a tricky situation but I think it will be ongoing for the next few months....maybe during the draft at best.

I don’t see it happening. There’s other team a player or two away that are going to be more enticing. My guess is Green Bay. He’s already a success story. I would think he wants a championship and an early retirement, as opposed to going to the Cardinals, aka Diet Bengals.

Sweat was added and a preferred option by Monti and Gannon based on... compensation, contract, value or Hendrickson simply didn't want to be a Cardinal

Given the draft, I find it unlikely to add another Edge.

This team either wants to win or only wants to look like it does.

You either can sack the QB or you lose in this league. The Eagles proved it last season.

Hes worth the picks for sure...its a matter of him being willing resign here.

Now that Crosby and Garrett are gone...Hendrickson is the best pass rusher left "available". We signed a good one in FA on a decent deal, so this actually gives us the room to pay a 2nd top tier pass rusher.

I say go for it. We could easily win this division with a strong defense. DROB and Collins are big enough to move around on passing downs...and we want our best 4 guys going after the QB as often as possible. Sweat, DROB, Collins, Hendrickson is a pretty dynamic "down 4"

I appreciate your views but it’s never going to happen. Mark my words. There’s is better than a 50/50 chance he will be traded. Some team will get it done. It won’t be us and we will hear the same old same old…we were in the hunt.

I don’t look at BjO or BBrowning as starting edges on a great defense. Trey + a DT at #16 would transform the DL instantly.

Neither are probably starting edges on this defense. I expect Sweat and Collins to be our primary tandem on first and second downs.

The Cardinals just invested $20M per year in Sweat (27 years old), $9M per year for Browning(26). They used a 2nd round pick on BJ Ojulari (22 years old) and are very high on him. Plus they have Collins(26) and Thomas(26) on the bench and will probably draft another young guy to compete at Edge as well.

Why would the Cardinals use a High draft pick (which they value greatly) to bring in a player who will want a contract upwards of $30M per year and will be 31 years old in December? There is no need to go down that path now. They have a young core at edge now and have bigger needs elsewhere.
