Turning point of the game was the 4th and goal for San Fran with 4:30 left in the game...a stop there would have been ball game..Instead Rattay finds Johnson between 2 defenders...TD..28-20....also Hambrick coming up 1/2 yard short of the first down on the following possesion. 1 first down would have allowed the Cards to kill the clock...after that you just knew the 49ers were gonna tie the game up...the Cards were playing not to lose..would have, should have...this really hurts..nothing we can do about it now but learn from it and move ahead...This game really reminded me of the Cards vs. Vikes game last year only the role were reversed...

I would say the turning point was the returned punt for a TD....

I agree, There is no way Johnson should not be covered closer. Wilson was in position but reacted too late. A stand on that 4th and goal would have ended the game and kept the streak alive. After that play it was all down hill and they could never make a play to stop the momentum.

They learned the hard way that 52 minutes of football won't cut it, even against a depleated team like the 49ers.

The turning point was the returned punt for a TD. If that didnt happen, the 9ers would be down even further, with less time on the clock. Anyway, it was a total team meltdown. :hulk:

Not really. We then put up another 14 points on the board after that...effectively putting the game away.

The punt hurt, but was not the turning point. The turning point was letting them score on 4th down. And then our defense sticking their heads up their arses.

It was just that sort of play that got Wilson the rep of not being a very smart player the last few seasons. Why on Earth was he standing three yards deep in the endzone, and not making a break on the ball until it was thrown? Total mental breakdown. You have to be aware of the situation there and jump on the guy as fast as possible and take away the easy play for the QB. You can't worry about the guy getting behind you (if that was his thinking).

Well, let's not forget to give SF some props. They didn't quit and made some excellent plays late in the game. Rattay was accurate and the WR's made some brilliant catches. Odd how early in the game Johnson (the TE) seemed to be wincing in pain, but late he looked strong. Anyone notice that Dennis Erickson looked shocked when they were walking off the field.

I had the same thought they had to know that JOhnson is the 49ers go to guy and Adrian was acting as if someone else was covering him, it's a zone, you have to see the guy in between you and someone else, get in position to make a play.

Tim Green (as much of a turd as he is) kept saying on the broadcast all during the 49ers comeback, "If I'm the Cardinals, I'm putting two guys on #82 (Johnson) at all times, because it's obvious Rattay is looking for him on every play."

And to think Tim Green, of all people, actually said something that made sense.

No doubt. Johnson and Rattay played their asses off.
Rattay looked freaking great yesterday. Despite the pounding, lack of running game, battered O-line and depleted receiving corps........

He didn't. That was Tim Ryan. Not that it changes the crux of your argument.

Totally agree, like I said yesterday, if we had Rattay at QB, playing like he did yesterday, I have little doubt that we would be at least 3-2.

Ryan is a local kid from San Jose, played at USC and in the NFL. So it should be no surprise he has a bias towards SF they were his home team growing up.

Speaking of football in that area, what has the opinion been there about the Cal-USC game? I was impressed with Rogers and I thought Cal pretty much outplayed the Trojans.

turning point was josh throing short AGAIN on 3rd down between the 2 SF TD's

I cant even imagine what kind of stupidity makes you throw short again and again and again.

Also I was screaming to run hambrick on 4th and an inch in that 3 and out.

Turning point was when the Cards scored their 4th TD of the day and started celebrating the win prematurely.
The rest of the game they played soft.
5 sacks - any in the 4th quarter?
4 man rush from there on out, no blitzes - success on one blitz could have stopped one of the Niners' drives.
Coaches as well as players to blame.

Wrong about the blitzes. If anything, we blitzed more than we had earlier in the game, especially on the second TD drive. Nobody made a play, and all we needed was one.

i guess the blitzes were so ineffective that i just didn't see them...

No you did. Docketts spear penalty came on a 7 man blitz. I thought once the pass was incomplete and all our guys were so close to the QB I was thinking BACK OFF!!!

We also blitzed on the play that Lloyd caught the TD on with the diving catch. That's why Macklin had him all alone. Really, we DID play the same scheme we had played the whole game and did blitz a little more. I guess it's easier to rationalize a meltdown like that by finding a scapegoat in the coaching. That is easier to swallow than what I think was closer to the truth, which is we just weren't good enough at the end of the game.

I have to agee Swd that the 3rd and short call and going to a long down and out looked stupid to me even as the play developed. Do not know who made that call but is was bad in hindsight and before the play was called. I would like to hear the reasoning on that call and who made it. Hope it was called from the sideline and not a call at the line by Josh. Pass was not even close.

There were 3 recievers beyond the 1st down marker. Hambrick was the dump off emergency. Josh needs the cajones to give the 1st down a shot. Drill it in fitz's chest.
