I don’t think the Suns have such delusions of granger with this move. I think they are fully aware of the impact on the other end (as you pointed out).

What I meant above was that it’s not like they said....”wow....this is our guy....we got to have him and let’s do what we can to get him”.

I seriously doubt that was the motivating factor.

I don't think it was a wow trade either but Tyler Johnson is an upgrade over Anderson and he should be able to contribute rather than ride the bench.

Don't disagree with any of that.

almost 400 posts about this but i'm not interested

Anderson is probably not as useless as he's portrayed but i'm glad he gets no playing time because we need to develop others. we don't need what Johnson brings either, and again, i'd rather develop others

Here is an article on Tyler Johnson which contains some video.

He will probably be the second best ball handler on the Suns.

http://arizonasports.com/story/1831...doesnt-alleviate-suns-long-term-pg-questions/

Pay particular attention to the portions of the article regarding his play and advanced numbers steadily getting worse over the life of his current contract and his lack of play-making ability at the point.

The positives about him in this article are more reflective of what he was in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons and not what he is now, and even this article bears that out in excruciating detail.

At least now we can get okobo off the court more, he's lucky he's on the sun's because he would never be called up from the gleague for any other team outside maybe Orlando

As I said going into the season, both Okobo and Melton needed at least a year in the G League.

If he still comes out for the draft this year, Morant will need at least a year in the G League as well.

How about Milos instead of those guys?

Well, we still need a point guard. We also need a power forward, as Bender is literally the only power forward we have on the roster at this point.

You obviously never saw him play. Dude is so useless, you could find random dudes on a playground more effective than him now.

I don't really see the downside.
I'll say it again. The downside will be if the Suns feel that we can now stop looking to solve the Point Guard problem.

With the addition of Tyler Johnson, they will still have to go to Booker as our least-worst distributor. When he is not disabled, that is.

That will continue to hurt the development of Ayton and the rest of our unbalanced roster of young players.

it's hard to question ANYTHING as far as what our FO thinks, but even I believe there is no chance in hell they think they just solved the PG problem with Tyler Johnson.

And yet they've done nothing at all to bring in a point guard...

I found these comments about Tyler Johnson from a Duane Rankin article:

“I’m really excited,” Johnson said. “It’s a new opportunity, a new challenge I get to face and hopefully I can bring some things over that I’ve learned in my first five years over here.”

“It’s going to be challenging, hard, but we know what he’s going to bring,” Kokoskov said. “He doesn’t have to know our offense. He’s going to know our defense. Bring energy and toughness and a presence on the court.”

Well. Whether he is a pg or not, he is starting at pg for us immediately. He can defend the point. He immediately is our best ball handler. Unlike what this article says, Booker is not better. He is a legit scoring threat unlike Melton. He is NOT a prolific distributor. We will see how smart and adaptable he is. If he can learn to feed the post, he will extend his career big time. I am mildly positive. Kids who had to crawl and scrap like him tend to do whatever it takes.

I am OK with this move. We essentially gave up nothing. There were probably a LOT of bad trades we could have done. From that standpoint, adding a guy while keeping TJ, JJ, and Bridges, I like that. Then when we do get a PG, this guy can be ourf third guard or shooting guard off the bench for another year. No way we were going to make the playoffs this year anyway. It's been reported better PG options abound during free agency anyway.

I kind of wish we just went all in for someone. I mean we cant keep sinking with our current crew, we can't even tread with them. Look I know we are young, but even young guys have prolific games from time to time and lead their teams to wins, even bad teams. We don't even have that guy yet but yet our cap is pretty much maxed out and we cant even sign a star-superstar player. This just proves that we are all in for Zion.

The draft will determine a lot.

1. If we get the top pick, we draft Zion and make a trade for a quality pg. Free agency could work too.
2. If we end up 4-6 in the draft, we will trade the pick and try to get a pg or we trade a wing for a pg and draft the BPA.
3. If we draft Morant we have a problem. We still need a vet pg AND a pf. I would assume we trade one of our wings for a pf and sign a lesser FA pg.

THIS is the point I have been trying to make regarding the Suns putting all of their eggs into the Morant basket.

We got to start swinging for the fences. Ayton is our centerpiece. Everyone else can go if we can get a star to superstar. With our current roster, with the addition of anyone else but Zion, we are still going to be bad. Do we really expect a rookie pg to turn everything around?
