Considering what this accomplishes I think it is a good trade.

It gives the Suns a player who has some value to use in a trade this summer and the Suns still have the option to buy him out.

It could be the Suns are thinking trade this summer and they need Tyler Johnson's salary to make it work.

Then Anderson's slot would have been better. Higher salary slot, lower cap hit if cut. Simply put, Anderson's contract is better than Johnson's across the board.

This trade really isn't a big deal guys, it's very meh. We get rid of someone who never sees the court for a bench player who will see the court in exchange for a few million that we all know Sarver wasn't going to spend anyway. We are not a team in a good position for free agancy next year anyway

So we're just going to be stuck with crap at point guard and power forward next year? At what point does the team actually improve and become competitive again?

He is a good defensive player. Very aggressive and scrappy too. Reminds me of a guard version of Holmes/ Jackson.

He WAS scrappy, before he got paid. Lately, he has been a worse defender than Daniels, and that's saying a lot.

We'll have our draft pick and possibly sign one player for the position we don't draft or trade. let's not act like we were going to sign a couple world beaters with the minimum amount of cap space we have and this extra 4 mill we will pay next year now just destroyed that plan.

Besides you've been the one for the last few months talking about how bad the free agency market is this year for PG in particular, now your upset we might not pay for someone you don't want on the team anyway???

Can anyone confirm Anderson’s cap hit for next year? Not his actual payout but the team’s cap hit...

The Heat also have James Johnson, who is a tweener forward they have starting as their PF making 14.6 million this year, 15.3 next season, and a player option for a third year at 16 million. Maybe James Jones thought he was getting him? :sarcasm:

At this point it's too late to back out and if that happened again I'd hope it would cost him his job. I really don't believe that happened but I thought I'd try to throw something else out there. When it was revealed we were almost stuck with the wrong "Brooks" is when people seemed to come around in regards to acquiring Austin Rivers. I'm not sure what is was that caused the change in attitude then but I thought it was odd back then how quickly Jones was bashed and then forgiven for that deal.

Outside of Zion and yet another couple of wings, there isn't a single player in this draft that will be NBA rotation worthy any time during his rookie contract.

I still think the Suns' best bet is to trade one of their surplus wings and draft picks for a legitimate NBA starting point guard (NOT Lonzo Ball, who I do not consider to be a legitimate NBA starting point guard, and who doesn't want to be here long term, anyway).

Barring that, though, the next best bet is to overpay second tier guys this summer.

Johnson is the equivalent of a fourth tier guy, and at a position where we're already overloaded with better players.

I think fans liked the Oubre acquisition which made waiving Rivers forgivable.

It should have cost him his job the first time.

I like the sound of that. I don’t view him as a savior, but if can bring even more bulldog mentality to the team hopefully in the aggregate it rubs off on the ayton’s and bookers. And perhaps with enough defensive reputations we can start getting calls instead having them always go against us. I’d love for us to shake the “soft” and “no D” rep we have had forever.

Johnson is no longer like that. He went extremely soft the moment he signed his big contract. His numbers on both sides of the ball bear that out.

When was the last time the Suns were lauded for doing "brilliant" work, rather than being the victim of another team's "brilliant" work?

If we get the #1, that will pretty much eat up all our cap space, although Holmes can be signed above the cap.
