Tyrann Mathieu says he’s best defensive player in NFL when healthy

“I’m feeling great, it will be a great year for us,” Mathieu said in London, via Nicholas McGee of the Sporting News. “Any time I’m healthy I feel like I’m the best defensive player in the NFL.

Mathieu has been incredibly productive for the Cardinals in his four years with the team. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and was named a first-team All-Pro after racking up five interceptions, 17 passes defended, 89 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in 14 games. However, that season also represents the most games he’s played in a season. He missed three games in 2013 and 2014 and another six games last season. That doesn’t include games Mathieu played at less than 100 percent due to injuries either.

There are a few other players in the league I would have on my team over Mathieu. When you start making statements like that someone needs to let the air out of your head. Even if the statement is true I rather have a player just as good and can give me 16 games year in and year out.

Honey Badger begging for attention.

+1

So tired of the over-hyped players on this team. Deone Bucanon, and Tyrann Mathieu are 75% talk, and 25% action.

They both have A LOT to prove this year.

Well he was almost Defensive Player of the Year till he got hurt at the end of the 2015 season. So It's not like he is coming totally out of no where. I have zero problems with his statement. I just hope he is 100% healthy this season and playing like he was 2-3 years ago.

I hate the "black hole" of mid-June - July.

Too much dead-time/gotta create interesting stuff to say.

Luv ya Badge, but let your actions on the field speak for you.

Gotta love the way the media takes words out of context, when excluding the words 'I feel' out of the headline totally changes the character of the message

To this point in the off-season the Honey Badger has been trying very hard to keep his head down and prepare for the season without saying anything. In past years, he has posted his personal goals on his locker, but this year has chosen not to do so in favor of taking one day at a time to get stronger. I bet he was goaded into making the statement he made, seeing as he's in London representing the Cardinals and has had to meet with the media. I may be wrong, but I think Badger knows as well as anyone of the roster that talk is cheap.

man.. I wish he'd let his play speak for him. There's no doubt in my mind that if he can ever get fully healthy again, he will be one of the best defensive players in the league. But there's a lot of doubt in my mind if he ever gets completely healthy again.

He was in the mix and the talks prior to his injury, its a fact. He was having one of the best seasons in the nfl. period.

Please share a link from a national source that supports your "fact." I did as much for you.

Please explain how Kuechly could be a finalist missing more games than Mathieu, who was not a finalist.

I'm not going to google around to find the discussions. They were out there. Were you not following the nfl late in that season? Because he was constantly in the talks just like Palmer was getting MVP talk.
