Any idea why he left the team other than the general dislike of Howland? I know he loses a little playing time to a very marginal Travis Wear but it's not like Smith can play 40 minutes.

Also, I don't know the rules on this, once you've been granted your release can you "just come back" or does it require NCAA or conference approval? I can't remember anyone ever being granted their release and then returning so I was just curious about it.

Steve

Nobody really knows. My guess is Josh was going to be behind Parker again as soon as he's healthy. He came in ahead of Josh 2 games in a row, then had back spasms. So my guess is his back is ok, he's now back ahead of Josh, and Josh just got fed up. howland gave up trying to motivate Smith. I personally would have started him each half he was actually playing well in first halves this year. Then would just tank the 2nd half so maybe he was thinking I play well, and get no reward starting 2nd half, so why bother?

Smith clearly has a lot of blame but nobody likes to play for Ben that's clear.

My understanding is the release just means he's free to pursue a transfer once his academics are handled for now. So assuming he stays in school, if the situation changed, he could come back.

There are 7 games on tonight involving Pac schools and I don't get a single one of them. If any of you happens to be a majority owner of Direct TV could you get off your big fat butt and find a way to make a deal with the Pac 12 Network? If you could do that in the next half hour I'd really appreciate it.

Just a reminder for those fans that don't get the Pac 12 Network, Arizona at Texas Tech is on ESPNU at 6 PM Arizona time followed by the San Diego State/UCLA game. I'm looking forward to both games. Despite the promise of greater visibility with this new network I've seen far fewer conference teams in action this season than any year in recent memory.

Did I read that right? 6-11 of 3s and we're only 1/2way through the 1st half? We gonna shoot 40 3s tonight? :D

Yeah I like our defensive effort and I love Tarc's rebounding. I was a little worried early when we seemed content to match their helter skelter pace but we held up well against it.

As a DirecTV subscriber I had to rely on the game thread from GOAZCATS so I can only go on what they said but it sure sounds like it. Other than turnovers, which seemed to plague everyone, he had a great game. It seems to me that Lyons will be a bit like Momo Jones for us. He'll win us some games but when he's off he's a real killer. Fortunately, I think he'll be on a little more often than Momo.

agree with you about the Lyons and Momo comparison. I think the positives that he brings with his toughness and fearlessness outweigh the bad shots that he'll chuck up throughout games

My guess is there will be a different best player every night.

.

With Ashley, NJ, Lyons, Solo, Parrom, and Zeus, there are several players who will be top-dog for this team on any given night.

Lyons and Hill showed great leadership tonight setting the tone by attacking the basket relentlessly when the game was still tight. Another solid win as this team continues to grow

A win is a win but that's not a very talented Clemson team. They'll be lucky to finish in the middle of the ACC. Lyons carried us but I wasn't very impressed with Solo. I love Nick's all around game although I'd like to see him get a little more aggressive with the ball. We played good enough defense to survive a combined 5 of 28 performance from Hill, Mayes, Jerrett and Parrom but we won't win often with those kind of numbers.

Clemson was playing some physical defense though and this would have been a game that we would have lost last year for sure. Lyons stayed aggressive and definitely carried us. Solo didn't shoot great but he also didn't settle for outside shots and at least was trying to get to the rim. This next game against the Gators should be a good measuring stick to see where this team is really at

This team should call itself the Goonies...it never says "die."
