Take away that pick 6 right before the end of the half, and I think it is a different ball game. We would have been tied at least going into the big half. That seem to be very disheartening to our young team and they hung their heads.
Perhaps UCLA still would have won with the big plays and poor tackling by us, but I think we would not have had the big blow out score that we ended up with.
Prior to that play at the end of the first half, I think we were hanging in there pretty tough.
As far questioning Strong, we threw the ball 68 times last night. He caught 12 for 146. I am not surprised he got tired. Those are great stats for a receiver. I thought he could have caught a few more but timing was off w/ Berco and he could have fought for that first int.
Don't agree at all... The talent differential was glaring. Particularly on defense where, we know all about our youth... however, several of the worst plays made on defense were not made by freshman. It was painfully obvious just how much better UCLA is across the field on both sides of the ball...
Also, while the Bruin defense was being shredded thru the air, they chose to completely take out Foster. So Berc and Strong could go off all they want, but the Bruins clearly said that Foster was going to be a non-factor... And he was just that... 30 yards rushing??
I think the pick 6 hurt, however, we still would've lost this game - and lost it big... Hundley and the Bruin offense could not be stopped any our defense. The only thing that might have made even the most tiny difference was if Kelly was playing as he could've posed an additional run threat.
UCLA is simply a vastly better team, period...
I think there is a very real chance that the Devils lose their next 2, maybe 3 games...depending upon Kelly's health of course.
